I think you will be happiest with a good fit in the shoulders. I went a little small on my trench coat and I'm glad I did. It looks much more sleek and polished to have a good fit. You can always move the buttons over a tiny bit if you need to. No one will every notice!

This is good to know Melllls (did I put enough l's in there?). I was starting to think it was me. It's gotten to the point that I might start a spreadsheet or list of what fits in what brands.

Thanks This helps a lot. Funny - the coat is now available in small and medium in the blackberry colour. This has happened to me a few times - my wish list will indicate that a certain size/colour is no longer available, and then when I go and check later - it's back in again!

Judging from your comments, it seems that the medium would be too big in the shoulders on me, which is something that's happening with a *lot* of coats I've been trying on in the past several weeks. As a result, I have decided that I am not an hourglass, pear, apple or rectangle - I'm shaped like a Christmas tree. (kidding!)

I ordered that Caslon distressed leather jacket in brown - received it - ordered in medium, and it was slightly snug through the midsection, but overly big in the shoulders and arms. Three to five pounds would have taken care of the midsection aspect - but then the whole thing would have been too big. I had the 'wingy' shoulders thing going on again. Where the shoulder line sticks out past my actual shoulders, and the usual gaping under the arms and so on.

Sizing is a real condrum when losing weight.

Anyway - thanks again for the feedback - much appreciated

I tried this coat in a XS (I typically wear a 2 or 2P in a jacket or coat). It was comfortable everywhere with the lining in. I think you'd only have fit problems if you wore a heavy jacket underneath the coat with the lining buttoned in. The blackberry color is lovely--a violet purple--if I had been in the market for a classic look in a vibrant color, I would have gone for it.

I also tried this coat, but it looked awful on me for some reason so I returned it. I think Angie said my shoulder line wasn't strong enough for the cut of the collar? I felt it ran true to size, with a definite roomy fit. I think you could try the smaller size, but you wouldn't be able to layer as much. It's a beautiful coat so I hope it works out for you!

I do have this coat in a plus size, and I absolutely found it to be roomy in the shoulders. I tried sizing up at one point to allow for more room through the mid-section, but I instantly looked like a football player and went back to the smaller size. It's worth a try in the small if you can swing it; it really is a lovely coat.

This has been in my 'wish list' for awhile, and I'd like to order it, but I have been having the *worst* time finding things that fit me, particularly in coats. I seem to be 'in between' sizes. I'm sure it's part and parcel of losing weight and not being quite at goal yet, but at the same time - a new trench coat would really help.

I've been trying on trench coats in the stores, and what I'm finding is that a "medium" is sometimes too big, sometimes too small, or sometimes it fits. Other brands seem to fit better in a small.

In any case - the Gallery Trench - I'd love to have the blackberry colour, but it's only available in size small in that colour. I noticed in the write up in the new YLF store that it is cut roomy - does this mean I might be able to get away with a small? Or should I go for black in the medium?

My fit issues seem to be in the bust, shoulders, underarms, sleeve length. A lot of coats are too big in this area, while fitting around my still-plump midsection. Frustrating, to be sure. A lot of times, the shoulders are the main issue - they stick out too far past my shoulders. My husband was with me the other day when trying on coats, and he could see it too and kept laughing at me - he said, "You have wings..." meaning the shoulders were sticking out too far. This usually coincides with gaping under the arms, and too big in the bust.

So - those of you who have tried the Gallery Coat - is it roomy in the shoulders? If this is the case, then I could probably get the small in the colour I want. Unfortunately, my local stores do not have this item in stock, so I can't go try it on.

I'd love to hear any comments you might have on the overall fit of this coat.
