I'm late here, Suz, I did see your post earlier and was reluctant to give my 2 cents because I feel sort of "off" lately. It's extremely flattering but the fact that it doesn't feel like you makes me hesitate. I sympathize with the quest for "the dress" having just gone through the process with my MOG dress. It's good to have a back up plan and hopefully the perfect dress that "feels like you" will appear, and lets hope it's soon!

Wow! You look so pretty in blue, and that cut is doing some amazing things for your figure.

This dress is ticking all of the Dramatic Classic boxes, the sheen, the substantial/rich fabric, clean/narrow lines of the silhouette, the geometric design, the color blocking, asymmetric neckline, but IKWYM about the 'is it me' factor. I feel it looks best with out the jacket because of the neckline, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do if it's cold. The plot thickens!

Suz, what you see as "fit issues" are the result of you capturing a still image of the dress. i think that type of fabric and cut of dress tends to photograph that way. Unless you are concerned about how the dress photographs, I see no fit issues at all. Bust is fine, waist is fine, the wrinkle at the waist is just your hips Missyeeee... IMO, LOL. No worries! Perfect backup!

I like it too, but... to my eye, it is not long enough for the event. Something below the knee would look better suited to the occasion.

Of course you are stunning in it, and it showcases your great body.

But... for a gala, where you will receive an award, I would do a different length especially with heels.

I think it looks fantastic on you and it is very flattering. You look gorgeous in blue. While it may be a departure style wise, it is still relatively simple in design. And the shine is appropriate for a gala. What you said about about the sit test is important. Not being distracted by something fussy means you can relax and allow your warm personality to outshine the dress.

I don't think you would be settling if you choose to wear this one....YLF!

Late to the thread, but I do think you look stunning in this dress. Satin never photographs well, you know, and the shine can be lovely in a banquet hall with nice lighting.
This is an extremely flattering and lovely dress, but it's true it's not speaking your native style language. This same dress in matte blues or in shiny tonal taupes would be an absolutely perfect find. That said, I think this is far better than a backup, and the fact that it's a little bolder than typical for you could be a good thing in this environment.

I support the decision to keep it as back up!

As far as the fit goes, Suz - definitely not too big on top. And the back fit is not a problem at all. Cause: stretchy fabric coupled with your waist indentation. Forget about it! And you won't notice it at all in motion :)
It is more than good enough! So, okay to.keep.eyes open, especially for purchasing(as opposed tk being able to borrow something for a special occasion, in case another dress just feels like the one you would wear over & over. No one there will know whether you've deviated from your style! While it may be a bit more maximal-- I understand the satin issue- the more sophisticated colors help as does the " simple" maximalness , to.me ( not a print, no ruffles, no bling except the satin. And you are right, another dress may look more.minimal but be more confining or feel weird on.An appropriate neckline.plus length are hard to come by. Usually something has to give, so it offen comes down to priority list. This dress has a very posh but elegant look.

You are stunningly beautiful in it! It is a gorgeous dress, and I have no problem with the satin shine. I bet IRL, without flash, it is just normal satin shine. Further it's sleeveless and knee length, and you're quite tiny, so there's really not that much there to shine!

The color and fit are wonderful as well. The tonal pattern and piecing are tasteful and flattering. I like it's current length actually for elegance.

I'm dying to hear what your thoughts are! It sounds like it might be out of your comfort zone, but I hope not. As long as you're not striving to find a little BLACK dress for this gala, this one is striking!!

Thanks so much, everyone. I so appreciate your comments. Here are my own thoughts:

#1 I agree that the fit of the waist in back is perhaps slightly off -- again - I am short-waisted. And there are no Petites dresses to be had in my neck of the woods, and even if there were, they'd be too short for me, because I'm not petite height. I do think the effect might be exaggerated because of the way I was standing and also because it's so shiny in the flash -- IRL my husband didn't notice anything like that, and he usually does.

#2 Angie has put her finger on it. It does not feel like "me." I think it is because of what Ceit and Sona said. I am not crazy about the satin. Also, I am unused to wearing something quite so body con. It's a bit like being girdled (which I guess it is, quite frankly!) Or maybe it is the combination of the two. I do wear my tube skirts without a thought, after all. But they're not shiny. I feel a bit as if I am dressed for a prom, which doesn't seem right.

Having said that, I think this dress is worth keeping in reserve in case my other options do not work out. Here's why:

a). Despite the fit issue noticed by a few of you, it fits better than almost anything else I have tried and does not need alteration. That is a major plus given my time constraints and my uncertainty about Wonder Woman East's ability to do a complicated alteration on a relatively expensive item.

b). Colours are pretty good, if somewhat on the bold side for me.

c). I like the asymmetrical neckline and think it suits me.

d). Despite the girdling effect, once it is on, it's surprisingly comfortable to wear because it has a lot of stretch. I did the sit test. It doesn't ride up and it falls back into place immediately on standing -- doesn't get all wrinkled and stuck, as some body con dresses might.

e). In some ways, that girdling might turn out to be a sort of advantage. You tend to need to feel a bit protected in these situations. I still have time in my return window, so I'm going to hang onto it for now and see what else I can find.

This dress really flatters you. If I saw it on a hanger, web site, or in a catalog I am not sure that I would have thought of you. . .So how do YOU feel in it? It is asymmetrical, but not what I would call androgynous or princely. Follow your heart on this one.
It's a super-cool design, I must say. From the pics, though, it looks like it might be a little big in the top half? From all the details that might be something that would be hard to fix with tailoring.
