@Bijou
Thanks! Just wanted to share something that could be beneficial with clothing too, since this is a fashion website - also for those who cannot afford to donate money right now.

@Bella
I completely understand - I have a friend who actually lives in Turkey, so we have other relief efforts going that way too. But cold weather clothing is also practical in the meanwhile, as many displaced folk still need to keep warm in the current temperatures whilst looking for somewhere to stay/ keep the heating on. Since it's going through the consulate/ embassy, they're the ones sending warm clothing to Turkey since they see a need for it - but I wouldn't donate anything heavily used.
Ofc money is important too - if you have the means to donate, feel free to get in touch with Bella! I have links too, if you'd like 'em :)

@Star
Ah that sucks but I do understand - they don't want folk dumping unusable clothes on them! But there may be some folk reading this who have NWT winter items at the back of their wardrobe that they can't use (for whatever reason - maybe you missed the returns window, or changed sizes?) This could perhaps be an alternative to consignment or reselling your clothes

This is a kind and lovely thought, so my intention is not to put this idea down but to provide some context. So please take my comment in the spirit it is intended. Clothes are not the priority at the moment, but access to accommodation (tents), heat, clean water and sanitary facilities still is and will continue to be for the foreseeable future. Instead of sending your worn clothing halfway around the world (which should be bad for the environment, too,no?) please consider helping the relief efforts by donating a few dollars. Because of the very disfavorable currency exchange rate, a few dollars would go a long way. I would be very happy to direct those interested to trustworthy relief funds in your part of the world. Feel free to contact me if you are interested.

A great solution, lovely to think that the global community can provide assistance to those in need.

I remember some discussion a little while back about what to do with old clothes, & how donating doesn't always mean that those clothes will go to those who need them...

A possible solution:
Our local Turkish consulate is currently accepting warm (winter) clothing donations, to help those affected by the earthquake. I thought I'd share just in case anyone is in a winter season cull, &/ or lives close enough to their country's Turkish consulate, to drop off some of their unneeded winter clothes:)

One Caveat:
I've heard that some countries' consulates only accept NWT clothing (New With Tags), so you may wish to phone them up to double-check, before you make the trip.
