I haven't tried any Zou Xou shoes yet; they've been on my radar for about a year after I saw the Eugenia flats pop up on a couple blogs/IG accounts. Reviews are somewhat limited, but it sounds like they may run half a size small, so I think if I go with my larger size they should fit well. If I try them, I'll report back!

I love the winter coats that you have picked out. I find it difficult to buy big-ticket items. I always worry I might make a mistake, but I need a good winter coat and boots. So I take the plunge. The dark brown would be beautiful on you.
That sherpa jacket would be perfect for fall. I might need it for myself. I am still working on my F/W list.

I have a massive shopping list right now but mostly because i'm building my wardrobe from scratch. I just took decisive action on my basics, bought three bras (the most i've ever had at once was 3, and all my old ones are stretched out so i'll have 3 in total), three matching pants and then three x 3 packs of cotton briefs from sloggi meaning i'll have 11 pants in total plus whichever dont have holes in from my current selection (almost all have holes in). They are all basic and I probably would have gone with a more sustainable brand but the sizing is a problem and you can't exchange underwear so I went with a tried and true brand that i'll actually wear
Perfect for basics. I just need to get a few camisoles now (again mine all have holes...I really wear things until they fall apart)...not the most exciting of things but they are basics and very much needed.

Meanwhile i'm drooling over my huge Pinterest list of things. I'm sure I won't be able to get all of them because they'll run out of stock before I can afford to buy them but it does serve as a reminder of what kind of thing i'd like. I had previously collated a selection but it felt very "meh" and not "wow". So I started only adding pieces I absolutely LOVE to my Pinterest and got a very different vibe. The collection before I liked how it was cohesive and looked together but I wasn't excited by any single piece on its own and I think you should love everything. I also decided to let go of my very strict parameters on brands as long as the materials are vegan. This has made it much easier to find things I love (and that will fit correctly). Many of the more eco brands would be too short on me. Still no fast fashion brands though.

Nice list, La Ped! And good not-allowed-to-buy list too :)

I hope the coats work out. Let me know either way. Brown will look fab on you!

Zou Xou footwear is sustainably and ethically produced. Pricey, but beautiful. Do they run wide? They look like they might run wide - which is dead right for you.

I'm in love with Zou Xou shoes now. There are a pair of strapped mules that are simply outstanding, and they would be a workhorse in my wardrobe . The price makes me nervous though - shipping plus conversion to Cdn $ takes these shoes into another bracket for me. Have you bought anything from them before ?

Love a well-thought-out seasonal shopping list! I know what you mean about it feeling hard to take the plunge with bigger-ticket items. I have found, though, that one really great workhorse or statement item at a higher price can do more to enliven a wardrobe than several lower-priced ones.

I've been mulling over whether to create a new complement, as well, but I really like cat2's idea.

Yes to the strap change option. Get a few colors! The olive in the longer coat for example.

Love Cat2's idea..... I think you can make it work. In saying that I don't think a brown bag will be a bad purchase.

And yes...I find it hard on those bigger ticket items too. I like both those coats - I think with pants all lengths can work but with skirts the length is more tricky.

Your choices look well thought out and stylish. No answer on the trail shoes - it is a hard one. I always keep one pair for yard work or painting or similar but I also go through one pair of running/walking shoes a year.

I am not there on my S/S list as yet. I am doing the 5 French Piece wardrobe now so have three statements/new pieces available plus will do a couple of replacements of my core pieces. Thinking of

- casual weekend/ vacation/work from home dress (replacement for favourite floral)
- smart practical sandals (will keep my EF ones but I only really like them in limited outfits now) 5FPW
- lightweight trousers for work to match blouses below (replacement)
- couple essential tops to replace worn out tees (replacement)
- sneakers or top or sweater or something to build in this green with my bag 5FPW

And leaving a spot for a wildcard....

Rachy and Sarah — okay, I think you’re right. I should go with my gut on the brown shoes and throw the matchy rules out the window!

Irina — and outerwear is extra tricky because it so often involves shopping well in advance of cold weather. So hard to commit to a coat in Aug/Sept, but wait too long and stock is depleted.

Nikki — there are so many unknowns right now. I’ve found it quite difficult to shop this year. 2020 was easy; I bought gear and loungewear! 2021 is tricky; I don’t need anymore gear or loungewear, but that’s still the bulk of what I’m wearing…

Love you shoe choices. I’m nervous about buying coats, too. I find that I need to actually wear a piece few times to understand if it works for me. By that time is is not returnable and might become a costly mistake.

Wonderfully well thought out, as usual. I am taking notes!

Fashion really needs another oxblood moment, don’t you think? The last one was too short!

I am liking the idea of brown shoes for you, but why not mix them with your black bag? Yes, even for a dressy event! I just think carefully mismatched accessories are so chic. And seems like it would be appropriate for the venue/vibe of this particular event.

Oh my and I certainly relate to the difficulty taking the plunge on big ticket items!

Short and sweet, a bit boring perhaps (Team Dark Neutrals over here). These are all big ticket items that have been on my mind for a long time. Most of these items have been on "the list" for a year or two; I've browsed, done some try-ons, haven't found quite the right thing. Not planning on buying/trying 'til September; too much travel in August to play returns roulette, and I'd like to take advantage of Labor Day sales. The exception is the shoes; I need to give myself time to do try-ons before that "mountain formal" wedding the last weekend in September (I have three potential outfits planned for different weather scenarios, but only have the right shoes for one of them).

A good wool cocoon coat. Not black, camel, or navy. Looking for olive, dark brown, or oxblood. I've tried versions from Everlane and J Crew, neither is quite right. Looking at the Aritzia Wilfred version this year. Debating long vs mid-length.

A long cozy sherpa fleece hoodie. LL Bean finally released the Mountain Pile coat in a colour I'm excited about (espresso brown!), so I'll probably give this a go.

A versatile dressy low-heeled shoe or bootie. Narrowed down to two options, debating which one, and dark brown vs black. My dressiest bag is black leather, but I really prefer the look of browns these days... Maybe it's time to build a brown complement? I don't really like shopping for bags, but maybe I need a dark brown one.

New trail runners. Recurring purchase. I'm married to this model for now (Altra Lone Peak), and hoping I can snag a discount rather than pay full price. Having to replace these every 500-600 miles (6 to 10 months) is really annoying; it galls me to be generating landfill fodder, but I haven't figured out a viable alternative.

casual pants

casual boots

puffy jackets

I'm in a good position with regards to essentials and basics, just need to 1) get over my sticker shock on these bigger one-and-done purchases and 2) not get distracted by smaller "that could be useful someday" items. Anyone else find it *so* hard to take the plunge on items over a certain price, even when you have a clear idea of what you want and have already explored lower-priced options and not found anything that ticks all the boxes?
