If I remember right, the original article suggested $200, but that seemed way too high for me. Sally - Yours definitely does have the boho vibe. Do you have trouble finding the right tops for it? smittie - I'm notorious for losing hats and mittens, but I have thought about investing in some nice leather gloves. I'm not sure if I'd trust myself with them, though. I never want to spend a ton of money on that stuff yet I love to have it, so I have gone thrifting and consigning and do find the odd special top, clutch, belt, scarf, or what have you at a much lower cost that way. My Bed Stu sandals have my most-worn shoes over the summer, so I have high hopes for their boots. Suz - I've never owned Riekers, but I hear good things. I've had luck with both Bed Stu and Børn.  lpr200 - Yes, comfort is paramount! Sally - I got a sparkly tank for a holiday party last year and discovered I could really only wear it with some kind of topper. Otherwise, the sequins on the sides actually scraped and irritated my bare arms. Who would have thought?! Still, I can't resist all the luxe materials that start to show up around the holidays. I dismissed your idea of a patterned skirt, at first, but now I'm thinking about all Brooklyn's beauties, and I think I'll have to keep my eyes/mind open. Joy - We absolutely can and do get frigid single digit and below zero temperatures, but the dry air makes it feel different than the Midwest (where I grew up). The cold doesn't quite seep under your skin the same way here. Good tip on the casual holiday wear! StyleFan - I like the Frye ones too! I don't generally wear long skirts in the winter. Maybe because they somehow seem less casual than summer maxis? I'm not sure why. Will have to think on that. La Pedestrienne - The two-tone versions are really appealing to me, too! I have been waiting to see what the seasons bring and so far am thrilled to be able to wear long sleeves and light weight jackets. I am hearing that winters are pretty mild on the front range...snowy but not the frigid temperatures I'm used to. As for holiday sparkle, look for items that can be worn casually. A red sequined cotton sweater that can be worn with jeans goes to more holiday gatherings than a long velvet skirt. Also, look for the sparkly things at thrift and consignment shops. I've found most of my holiday items, especially the most loved ones, second hand. I just bought the Bed Stu Beccas in the distressed black color. -- found 'em on shoebuy.com for about half price, but their prices seem to have gone back up now -- bummer.  (They didn't have the brown color you want there, anyhow.)  Anyhow, I ended up liking them even more than I expected.   I was wearing them around the house this morning with my jammies, just because.  Incidentally there can be a lot of variation in the finish of Bed Stu shoes -- not just in the amount of distressing, but also the exact color and shine. Given your very curated wardrobe, you might want to order a few pairs for comparison. I like the contrasting harness on the Reiker and Anthro booties.  Feels a bit more stylish somehow, and could create new opportunities to coordinate color. Current weather here on the front range has highs in the mid 70s to low 80s and overnight lows in the 40s. While I ended up with nothing from NAS this year, I have gotten a good start on refreshing my fall/winter wardrobe. I'm still using the 5-piece system and have gathered my new additions into <a rel="nofollow" href="http://youlookfab.com/finds/collections/?collection=3173">a collection</a>. Boden has been working for me this year, and I picked up several items in their recent 30% off sale, which kept some pricier pieces under my $100 basics threshold. Basics (essentials): <ol> <li>oversized black v-neck sweater</li> <li>burgundy cropped pants (currently out for hemming)</li> <li>ivory v-neck blouse</li> <li>black v-neck blouse (backordered, but a dupe of the ivory)</li> </ol> Five statement pieces (or basics over $100): <ol> <li>shibori poncho</li> <li>brown leather jacket</li> <li>  </li> <li>  </li> <li>  </li> </ol> I have room for 3 more statement pieces. One spot is reserved for a new pair of booties. I'm drawn to the harness style and have put several options in the Finds. Any thoughts? Also, that leaves two spots for wild cards or upgrades. I'll need to mull those over, and perhaps save one for a pick-me-up later in the season, but any suggestions would be welcome! A long cashmere cardigan a la Suz? Something sparkly for the holidays?
