Thanks for the feedback. That is a good amount of wears especially since you have another couple of months of winter to go, and the poncho would be suitable in spring/fall too (in fact maybe even better as you would not need to layer over).

I don't track wears - maybe I should - but I can't quite face the discipline of it.

Jenn, my Linge flats are black -- that way, if I pair them with black leggings, I can feel like Audrey Hepburn from the moment I roll out of bed.

Thanks so much for all your comments. I know you've all seen most of these pieces before, as I was buying them, but I wanted to have them all in one place for future reference.

Bijou and StyleFan- The WFH uniform has been great, and find when I put it on, it works as a mental signal that I'm heading into a work day, which makes me more productive. I'm a little sad that I decided too late to duplicate the top, because it also works as a fab nightshirt, and I'd love to have a couple more for that purpose.

smittie - I didn't get the printed trousers. Mine are plain burgundy, I just couldn't get the Find to show the correct color.

El Cee - I think you must know when you find a shopping plan that really works for you, because the 5-piece has really been both a joy and a relief for me. It's not a struggle to stick with it at all!

La Pedestrienne - Oh my gosh, I LOVE those Linge slippers. I think I might add a pair of those as well. What color did you get?

Kiwigal - I'll be honest. I don't find the fur vest and poncho particularly easy to wear. They're definitely not "throw them on anytime" pieces. My wardrobe app says that I've worn the vest seven times and the poncho ten times, though, which is more than I expected. It also might even be a little low, as I was bad at tracking in November and December. I consider both items to be special items with some closet longevity, so I'm okay with that amount of wear.

Suz - I've been thinking a lot about this "what is a basic/essential?" question, and I think I've come up with a definition that works for me. First of all, remember that my rule is that anything over $100 has to be part of the five. I might raise this limit a little for winter next year, as winter clothing and shoes are more expensive, but I probably still wouldn't go over $150ish. Second, I've decided that a basic/essential has to be an item that I expect to fall under $1/wear within a year or two. Will I wear that $50 blouse once a week for the next year? If so, it's definitely a basic. Your CPW for essentials might not be the same as mine, but it might be a useful way to think about how you'd classify a given purchase.

shedev - Yes! For me, it feels less like a restriction and more like permission to make better purchases.

Joy - I don't count gear, and I'd think those snowshoe boots would definitely fall into that category!

shevia - Thank you! I think I'm getting better at choosing wisely. I hope. :)

Each of your pieces is so special. I am trying to move toward the 5-piece idea especially to force more thought and better quality, then a need comes along, like boots that will work for snowshoeing without being ruined. Maybe I should not count those things in the 5 although they will be expensive.

Nice picks Jenn. My favorites are the leather jacket and EF wrap. The 5 piece also encouraged me to buy better, which was transformative for me.

I love your additions -- they are statements, yet also very practical and so cohesive. This is a terrific system, one that I am going to consider going forward. I guess the tricky part is identifying what is an "essential" (or in your term basic) and what goes into the 5 piece. I'd be at risk of labeling everything an "essential" if I were not careful. I mean, seriously, is it not essential that I have that bright pink jacket? ;)

I love your additions and your style cohesiveness is inspirational. Do you find the poncho and furry vest easy to wear - they both add a glamourous edge and I love them both. I could do with a couple more dressy/edgy winter pieces for indoor occasions....ie dinner at friends places

While in the most part I do not overshop, I would like to cultivate a more consistently "great" look rather than being erratic. I have made some progress on this in 2016 but would like to make more.

Garnet Hill's cashmere is awesome -- that wrap cardi looks perfect for you and perfectly cozy.

I'm a big fan of those UO mary janes, too. I always have a pair on hand to use in lieu of slippers. Last year I added these slightly fancier "house shoes" too: http://www.lingeshoes.com/

Such a well-curated assortment, lots of variety but still cohesive. I'm so inspired by everyone doing 5-piece experiments!

The oatmeal wrap cardigan looks fabulous. I'm glad you're getting a lot of wear out of it.

I also like those tie die pants. Did you take a picture? I don't think I saw them.

Love the leather jacket and poncho.

Your 5 pieces are all outstanding, with a similar style sensibility and yet offer varied looks and functions. It was a lesson in patience to see you try so many leather jackets, I am glad that the one that you got ended up being such a beauty and hopefully a workhorse for many years to come.

I also love your basics, which complement the 5 pieces so well. I like the idea of a work-at-home uniform. This is a great way of looking stylish and yet very comfortable at home. I am coveting your Mary-Jane slippers which are very cute, stylish and comfortable.

Like shedev, I've finished my five-piece wardrobe for the season.

The five pieces I bought were:

1. Free People floral tunic
2. Garnet Hill cashmere wrap sweater
3. Orvis faux fur vest
4. Black Rivet leather jacket
5. Fisher Project (EF) wool poncho

I'm happy with the quality of everything I bought, and I think the 5-piece encouraged me to invest in better fabrics and more luxurious items than I might have otherwise. Of the five, the cashmere wrap sweater has been my most-worn item, hands down.

I did intend to buy a pair of non-black booties as part of my five this season, but I didn't fall in love with anything, so I decided to wait it out.

I also added some basics, and I'm not planning on a shopping fast so there may be a few more basics still to come (although they'll probably be gear and loungewear items). Generally, though, I feel satisfied with what I have.

The basics:
1. Mary Jane slippers (loungewear)
2. black ponte pants (work-at-home "uniform")
3. black button-down (work-at-home "uniform")
4. black wool pullover
5. burgundy cropped trousers
