Whindchime we would make you very welcome here:)

Donna excellent justification but my observation is that it's possibly climate change that is causing the longer summers:(

Sharon, despite the cold we have quite lovely winters in Bendigo. Freezing morn if and night but often around midday the sum will come out and it will be just beautiful. My solution is simply to layer. Coat, beanie and scarf on way to work, if I am out in the middle of the day often a jacket will suffice and then back on with the coats, beanie and scarf for the trip home.

I am not sure...I need to count.

I do tend to buy more in summer because I like the fashion, I go out more, and the items are cheaper. If I need boots and a coat that takes up most of my winter spending so there is not much left in the budget!

I do try and spend on truly train seasonal pieces, and there are lots of things I wear all year.

My goals, to count my wardrobe and do a WIW!

Ummm, me. *raises hand*. My count made it very clear that I over-prepare for winter.
I think part of the problem is that because Brisbane only has a few weeks of cold weather ( this week all day time temperatures will be 20-26 C), people don't heat their houses. And the mornings and evenings are quite cool (under 10C this week). So I feel cold and buy too many warm clothes. Maybe the solution is to think more cleverly about how clothes can be layered and worn trans-seasonally.

How do you manage the cold mornings/warm days dilemma?

The answer: CLIMATE CHANGE. Just because you had *x* number of weeks of S/S and F/W in the past does not mean that the same will be true in the future. Haven't you noticed that things are shifting a bit? [How's that for an enabling justification? ]

What a great realisation! It'll be interesting to see how your current closet works for you come spring/summer & where it could be better.

I used to be in denial too, as I prefer f/w clothes! As I also run hot, this was a problem. But now that I've built up a variety of warm/hot weather options (I've lived here for almost four years), I find I'm not as annoyed by summer as I used to be (!). I even created a little capsule of lightweight clothes in autumnal colours that I don't wear until September/October, when it's still hot here while most of the country is turning towards fall. (I now think of those eight months as a continuum: warm spring, hot spring, hot summer, really really hot summer, hot fall, warm fall.)

Because I'm into thrifting, though, I still have a substantial collection of woolens that don't usually get to come out & play as much as I'd like (this last fall/winter was unusually cool)! I'm hoping to move up north, in which case they'll definitely come in handy, but until then I've stopped myself from adding any more. Luckily I have the space to keep them all for now. But the result of accepting the summer dominance was just a general closet expansion, vs downsizing f/w while upsizing s/s.

How many times have I longed for the length of our summers and winters to be reversed? This year, with our cooler summer, I'm hardly wearing anything sleeveless unless it's covered with a topper. But now, after all these years, I realize the solution..I need to move to Australia!

Alana I couldn't be bothered counting the tops because I know that there are plenty to get me through the heat. I did count my tops in my previous post but haven't separated them into hot weather/cold weather.

Jen so good to see you:). My summer clothes do extend beyond one season because I find so little I like for summer that I do buy with the intent of them seeing many summers.

Shannon you seem to have this under control. I think I need to move to Canada, your climate is much more suitable for my wardrobe:)

Mo good advice, thank you. And I cannot imagine the challenge of not knowing which climate I will be in.

Caro my boredom threshold is pretty high particularly now that I love most of what I have. It's the season that I have a low threshold for lol

It seems I am still stuck in denial mode. I just went on the biggest shopping spree of my year -- bigger even than NAS -- to buy SPRING-SUMMER clothing!! When, as Shannon said, we only have 2-3 months of warm temperatures.

In my own defence, this is a great season for warm weather clothing and I was especially unhappy with my summer style in the past. This is the first year I have really truly enjoyed getting dressed in summer. (Part of this might be because our summer is a bit more temperate this year...hmmmm)

Anyway -- I was due for a summer style overhaul. But I now understand why I get bored throughout our long winters. I have approximately the same number of items for both seasons. Summer is 10 to 12 weeks. Fall/ winter/ early spring (when it is still cold enough for booties & jackets for sure) goes for up to 42 weeks. Clearly I need to re-order things!! :)

I am glad you are keeping those skirts to see if you can make them work for you.

I used to buy tons for summer until I finally came to grips with the truth - our actual hot summer here is only 2-3 months in duration, while we wear our fall/winter clothing from September/October right through to March/April. That's why my fall/winter wardrobe is almost double the size of my warm weather wardrobe.

Good job going through your numbers - I know I found this extremely helpful.

I too live in denial regarding summer being my dominant season. I love fall/winter clothes for a myriad of reasons, but most importantly, I feel so much better in that 'weight" of clothes. The quality feels better and I feel warm/secure in my fall/winter clothes. Summer clothes seem so insubstantial.

Still, I have come to realize that Summer is my dominant season and I have been trying to make my wardrobe decisions with this in mind. It is hard adjusting, but it can be done.

Hi Fab Ones!

Further to my wardrobe counting post
http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....by-numbers and my post

and then asking if I should move on some (summer) skirts http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....or-move-on

I thought it might be wise or actually assess what I have in my closet specifically for the warm weather before I start tossing things out:)

Well the numbers are rough but here it is. Most of these are exclusively summer garments with the exception of some dresses and the tunics which can be layered in cooler weather. I haven't counted my tops because I have plenty:)

4 skirts (including the two striped ones under consideration)
6 pants
13 Dresses
2 Tunics
6 Jackets (Spring/Summer)

Our warm weather can start around late September and continue through to March/April, leaving only 4 months of cooler weather:). Clearly I have been in denial that Spring / Summer is my dominant season, with the majority of my wardrobe being Autumn/winter focussed.

So for the moment I will keep the striped skirts and I will be very intentionally assessing how my warm weather wardrobe works for me this coming Spring/Summer.

I guess I'm not that surprised at how little I have for the warm weather, given must how much I love Autumn/Winter clothing.

Anyone else in denial over their dominant season? And does your wardrobe reflect that?

xxxDeborah
