Anna, I thought someone was taking your pics on location. I was surprised to learn you took them yourself. I have only just confessed to my husband that I peruse a fashion forum (I felt I had to tell him about the mini meet-up!) so maybe I'll be able to upgrade my pictures from dim cell phone pics. After all, photography is his hobby and he has multiple fancy cameras and lenses.

That was funny Anna; thanks for the link!

It's just me & my camera too! I feel really awkward getting other people to do it, because I try to ask for feedback, but they can't tell me if my face is getting flattened out or not. Since it's for YLF and not a blog, I try to opt for more straightforward body poses instead of the most flattering angles possible, except for my face tilt (if I face straight on to the camera, all of my bone structure disappears into a weird, round moonface...and I'll probably end up with 2-3 chins). When I first started doing outfit posts, I took really honest profile shots too, but I found my self esteem was suffering, so now I cheat with those & twist my torso a bit for wiw photos (vs k/r). I tell myself the people who know me don't spend much time at a 90 degree angle to me anyway. heehee

Fun pics! Thanks for sharing this.

I was reading her web page, and she said that her husband does all of her "IT-related things." I have certainly been on YLF too long, because I thought, "Wait, he does all her inverted triangle-related things?"

Yeah, my camera has been broken forever, and only one of us has a smartphone, so I'm grateful to have a photographer, but I pretty quickly learned that I had to review the photos before the end of the session. He's learned to take another if it's a goofy face now, but he doesn't tend to notice things like the wrong buttons unbuttoned, or uneven pants rolls, or collars inside out, let alone weird angles. I really didn't need the underside of my butt as the focal point of a shot... :P

Also cat interference is an ever present danger. I admire those who have cats who sit by observing without wanting to get their owner's attention by clawing their tights for example.

Sometimes the outtake ones end up better . . . maybe because they are more natural? But sometimes you see an angle you never want to view again in your entire life lol.

I had a neat experience a few weeks ago. We were putting together a kickstarter page with a hoodie as one of the rewards, and a bunch of us modeled the hoodie for the photos. Anyway, our project ended up with a volunteer photo/video guy who's apparently a real pro. So instead of just standing there in my hoodie, I was instructed to pose in all these slightly awkward ways, tilt my head a bit, stick my hip out more, etc. And people were coming up to me and adjusting my hair and smoothing out wrinkles in the shirt and all. It was just like I see on model reality shows. I felt ridiculous but the photos of all of us look great. I don't think I'd do that for outfit photos - it would feel too forced - but it was a fun look at how professionals do it.

I got my stepson to take an outfit photo once. Big mistake -- I look like my legs are 6 inches long. All the potential photographers in my household are nearly a foot taller than I am. It's easier to just do the 30-second iPhone selfie thing.
