#3 you look really nice. I don't like the sweater at all on you. I don't know how it would do if you sized up. I would be afraid to try.
Vickie

Love-bandles--whoot. You've coined another great one.

That's where B&m shopping is such a help. In the photos, they can do all sorts of things or the model can be this or that shape, and it's such a crapshoot.

I'm a no on the sweater for the reasons stated. Hate the banded bottom at that length on a chunky sweater, but if it were more cropped so there was no love-bandles, it would work. It's nothing to do with you!

Ruth, that was my problem entirely! They usually only go to size 6 which is too big in M and too short in P. I was sucked in by the color + chunky knit. I will have to re-swear off.

That's precisely the reason I quit wearing banded-bottomed sweaters a long time ago. They just don't fit correctly. Also, FWIW, I never could find anything from Appleseeds that fit me properly. I think their sizing is off. I can't wear their petite sizes because the tops are too narrow in the shoulders and the sleeves are almost always too short, and because the pants are always too short. I can't wear their misses sizes because the sleeves and pants are too long. I finally gave up. It's not the store for me.

That said, I love the color of the sweater. Too bad it doesn't work for you.

Suz, that sounds right. I liked these pinstripes because it's so hard to get something with any subtle pattern and not black, but they are not as "loving" as I had hoped. I have been trying to find a not-poly and not tracky sort of slouchy tapered pant but it's quite hard to fit my shape --have tried and returned several options. I do have the pleated Theysken's for cooler weather.

I think it is in cut and fabrication. And finding the current silhouettes that love you most. An example are those track pants, which look all kinds of fantastic on you in a way they don't on some others. It is possible to find these pieces, it's just really hard to figure out what they are without trying a lot on, it seems.

Thanks, Suz and K. I probably don't have the energy to try another size because I suspect it will still be cut just a bit "off" as you say.

I love the menswear look, and of course as you can tell I love trousers (even pleats!), oxfords, blazers. Go Kate Hepburn all the way. But somehow it is easy for me to lose the look I'm going for--intend to be tailored modern and go right to frumpy or something, and I'm trying to analyze that. What did I have in my mind compared to what is in the photo? I think the outfit looks better "in motion," though.

Perhaps needs to be crisper and more angular? With that I need super perfect fit, since some of my angles are missing, these days.

I like your WIW outfit. I'm sorry it feels a bit "mannish" to you, though. I like the idea of trying booties with it, since pumps aren't your thing.

I wish I could help with the sweater, but I have the same problem!

What a shame about the sweater; it's a nice colour! But yes, this is exactly why I used to hate banded sweaters and when Angie suggested I try one, I was doubtful. They ALL used to fit me just like that.

Well, I think it's the cut -- and this is just one more example of why modern classics have to be updated. It's all in the cut. And alas, this is so hard to tell from online photos where they pin and tuck on the models to make it look perfect.

Yay for a subtle pattern mix! Boo for feeling too "mannish." It's tough to get all the elements right sometimes, isn't it?

I had sworn off the Appleseed’s catalog due to boxy fits and quality, but then when boxy and oversized were trending I thought I’d try this sweater with high cowl and nice berry color.

But, as in pics, the bottom ribbing narrows a bit and so the sides “pooch” out--not a square boxy fit. This is size PS ‘cause I never thought I’d take M, but I wondered if I sized up, would it be more boxy and not cling at the welting? Or then too big all over & just give it up? NOT free shipping except with specials.

Also shown is a WIW as color and teensy bit of pattern mixing for fall. Wearing burgundy oxfords, AT grayish pinstripe pant where the stripe reads pinkish; Loft sweater in green, pink and brown; Olivia Moon knit jacket. This outfit reads a bit manly to me (for how I carry it off, not because I’m averse)—“pumps” would be one way to counterplay the menswear vibe, but not for me.However my shooties or booties I think give a more refined look than the oxfords, so might try that. Jacket isn’t very structured—shoulders are not sharp—but it’s been a useful weight and color and is good with softer skirts & dress looks.

What do you think? Try to upsize sweater or give up as likely too frumpy regardless? Improvements on the WIW?
