I love this theme - all the outfits are simply gorgeous. And so beautifully accessorized, as usual. It is so interesting and inspirational to see and read about your work with the themes and building and refining your wardrobe. Especially how this helps you to make less "mistakes" and how you, instead of buying items out of boredom with existing outfits try to switch them up to fit in the various themes. What a brilliant method. I am a restless dresser myself and I get easily bored when I repeat looks too often. With Etsy I do set a budget on each item and because I am generally buying second hand I really don't want to spend a lot. I have occasionally got something that turned out to be in less than stellar condition (although with vintage items you do have to accept some wear and tear). I have certain favourite vintage brands that I look for, that seem to age well eg Trifari, Anne Klein, Givenchy, Sarah Coventry. I would say I have had more successes than failures. If you are interested in taking a look at my favourites on Etsy I go under the moniker "brooklynboho" (of course!) Some of the things I have as favourites are there for inspiration only. I am unlikely to spend big $$$ on an antique gold necklace, for example, but I have some as favourites because I like the look of them :) Thanks FC! That it so kind. I guess I think of myself as pretty maximal in the jewellery department, compared to most people here. I am a devotee of chunky jewellery too. Fine jewellery is pretty much wasted on me. I think she looks great! I am surprised at how many of her outfits made it onto my mood board because I always think of her style as much more ladylike than mine. But some of her outfits are pretty funky! Here are another couple that I really like. Sally, thanks! The top looked like a light tan colour in the VM edit but in reality is more peach/apricot. I was thinking of overdying it in a weak solution of brown dye just to tan it up a little. I would like more of a honey shade. It’s such a pleasure to wake up to these comments. I’ll get to the individual comments shortly, but I just wanted to address Viva’s comment about mistakes, because I think it’s important. Although my themes are definitely fun, I am also hoping that they will serve a serious purpose. I feel guilty and embarrassed when I make mistakes and, like many people here, I am trying to be a more mindful consumer. Ideally I want my wardrobe to be full of statement pieces that I love and wear when the weather or occasion is right and non statement pieces (essentials or completers) that are earning their keep as supporting acts. I am finding the themes help me to head off 2 types of mistakes: * buying things that are trending or that I like on others but which aren’t authentic to me * buying things out of boredom with what I have The first mistake can be a problem here because I see others wearing something in a fabulous way (eg white jeans) and get excited about trying it out myself, even though it’s not me. Sometimes FOMO creeps in too (white boots!). The themes give me a solid framework for figuring out whether something will incorporate into my style. The themes also help me with the second mistake (boredom buying) because when I start to get bored with a particular item or outfit I think about how I can switch things out to make it fit with one of my other themes. And that’s a fun and creative process. But there are some mistakes they don’t help with: * overbuying for my fantasy life/climate. I have way too many things that I love wearing for winter and not enough days to wear them on. * buying things that I like but which are not 100% comfortable - a pair of sandals late last year that were a cheaper alternative to the EF sandals and give me terrible blisters. A lace top last year (during project dark romance) that makes me itch. A poly blend sleeveless top last year. Sticky. I really need to be vigilant about both physical and aesthetic comfort. * buying things that are close to a HEWI. I can get a vision about something that I want for my theme (eg a brocade skirt for Byzantine Jewel) and then find something that’s almost perfect but not quite there. But I buy it anyway because I’m excited about my theme! And then the perfect thing comes along later. I am sure others have experienced this type of mistake too. So, in short, I still make mistakes! But the themes do help to keep me focused. And they serve another purpose. They help me to have confidence in my style and style choices. I feel so much better about going my own way and not worrying so much about whether something is trendy/interesting/cool/edgy or whatever.
