YLF to the rescue. Thank you so much for your opinions and your well wishes. My parents have both been taking care of ill siblings (for quite a while)--I talked to both of them today and it sounds like things have taken a turn for the worse. (I fessed up about my own injury today too so they won’t be surprised when I show up looking ready for combat.) I’m relieved that the boots and dress #2 get a pass--one less thing to worry about.

@Hil, Tracey, Alicat, Denise, CF, caro, Shannon, Joy, Una: Thank you!

@Oldmsthrifty and Suz: Thanks! That’s very helpful. I think you are right about black--I was just aiming for subdued and respectful.

@Shine: Thanks for chiming in!

@MNsara: Thanks. I think the coverage of 1 is good but was unsure about the burst of color. I can pop a blazer over the other dress so I’ll probably go with that.

@sarah: I’m worried about the stability of my heel in sandals--I don’t want my ankle slipping to the side at all--especially this early (hence the boot.) I could possibly do a flat oxford but those are Docs or gold Borns. Neither seems right for the dresses. After wearing the boot, I can suffer through anything! Thanks for thinking about me though:)

@christieanne: Thank you for the reminder! I will definitely wear a cover up.

Dress #2 with a cover up if the service is in a church/house of worship? I think a little color is common at funerals these days. I would do a flat sandal or shoe or the boots. At a funeral or memorial, I have found that what is remembered by the family is that you cared enough to be there with them and not so much anything else. I am also adding my well wishes for you.

I like dress #2. Do you have any neutral, understated sandals that would work with it as an alternative to the boots? I'm worried about the boots being hot.

I'm trying not reading any other replies :-)

I like the first dress, the mostly black one. I think it would be better with the boots than the lighter, more summery dress.

It's a dynamite dress on it's own and should be a great addition to your wardrobe.

Sorry to hear about the sad event

Hi there,
I think wearing the dress no2 would be a little too short and loud dress no3 looks appropriate but please not the boots, Boots make a style fashion statement and funeral is not the right place to marked so wear ballerinas or stilletos.

Ditto for the second dress, Kelly -- or really, any subdued, relatively quiet dress or skirt-top ensemble, not necessarily black. The boots will work, I'm sure.

I'm so sorry that you have lost someone - I hope it is not someone very close to you.

I just went to a funeral on Friday. Only two or three wore black. Even the deceased granddaughter wore an orchid color dress. And since it was graveside no one wore heels, as the grass in the cemetery is deep and soggy, heels sink. I wore black and white linen and with low wedge sandals and felt right in place. So either dress would appropriate.

I need some help sorting funeral attire. Assuming that I am approved for two shoes, do you think either of these dresses are appropriate with the MM Myrtles? Because of the atrophy and weakness of my injured leg, I'm not chancing heels. The boots are RATE but not sloppy--at least not to me. If the rest of the outfit is polished, will this be okay for a funeral? I don't have any other flat-ish, supportive shoes and may not have time to order a bunch to try.

I also have a plain black sleeveless sheath. Is that more appropriate? I don't know if any of my black jackets match though--that could be problematic. I guess I've been pretty fortunate. I haven't attended a funeral in quite awhile.

TIA
