My usual way to wear this kind of outfit would incorporate ONE contrast to avoid the goth effect: red shoes, a silver brooch, a print scarf... I have a huge variety of toppers -- red, grey, taupe, tweed,<br /> houndstooth, plaid, -- partly because I have so much winter, but partly because they usually go over a black base.</p> <p>Approprio, thank you, to one who knows dramatic. Saturday: for a drive-through flu shot clinic: long-sleeved T, hoodie, jeans, and running shoes. I started with the trench too but was too warm with all the running around. Hair in a braid, which had thoroughly escaped by the time this pic was taken, late evening after going to see Dune at the movie theatre </p> <p>Sunday: for virtual church, and attending the choir concert that I didn't sing in. Square neck T with a slight Audrey vibe, pleated maxi skirt, and funky Born Oxfords with a slight witchy vibe.</p> <p>Thus endeth the week, and now I will go to town on colour for a while. Although, seriously, I could do at least another full week without repeating a thing. My seasonal outfit today is black pants, red tee with a black heart (realistic) with a little white.. it was sort of Halloween. In the evening I added a long black jacket and black socks for warmth.<br /> From consignment today I added a black felted vest with a design in red and grey, a black and white JCrew flannel shirt and a red kimono jacket with a red and white print of big flowers to help me with outfits in a small black/ red/white cold weather capsule. All black with no colour, pattern, or contrast, just feels too "goth" for me.</p> <p>However: the college+community choir I recently joined has a concert on Oct. 31 for All Souls/All Saints/Day of the Dead. I won't be singing in it after all, because our region has gone into a circuit breaker due to increasing number of cases. Nevertheless, I realized---if there is a season when it is appropriate to dress like a goth, it's now or never!</p> <p>I set myself a week of only black items. Here's what I have done so far:</p> <p>1.(2 pics): cotton blend crewneck sweater, bootcut pants, high vamped loafers; worn with trench coat. I wore my hair down, with side part and single black beaded barette.</p> <p>2. (2 pics) Weather is getting colder. Wool cowlneck sweater, cuffed culottes, menswear style oxfords. Hair in a high pony with scrunchie. For outdoors, black blazer and beret.</p> <p>3. Rain threatened, and had appointment for my COVID booster (yay). Short sleeved peplum top, long straight poly-blend skirt, platform maryjanes. Hair up in a French twist with a leather clip. Trench for outside.</p> <p>4. For a non-clinical day (no white coat needed): It keeps getting colder. Merino sweater, slim straight Ponte pants, long gilet, cap-toe slingbacks. I cheated and wore my taupe trench coat which was long enough to cover the gilet. Hair in a half-up pony with leather bow pin.</p> <p>5. Feeling Audrey today. Cashmere rollneck tunic, crop skinny jeans (knit), ballet flats. Hair in a low pony with clips.</p> <p>Observations:</p> <p>I got zero feedback or comments, I don't think anyone even noticed. What I did get, was more comments on my hair. </p> <p>Fortunately it has still been mild enough to go sockless, so there was some bare ankle skin for contrast. I don't think this would have worked as well with black socks in the mix.</p> <p>When I reviewed the items (some I have had for a very long time), most of the clothing was bought new whereas most of the footwear was thrifted, which is the reverse of my usual.</p> <p>Hairstyle turns out to be an important part of my outfit. I tend to use hairstyle and footwear to pull the outfit in a more androgynous direction: so hair down with pants, hair up with a skirt.</p> <p>Thanks for reading! </p>
