Like Janet's pair, mine have some room in the ankle but not full "flower pot" effect. In other words... they are snug enough and not gaping. Even with laces involved, I sometimes feel they aren't snug enough. Like my Ugg moto boots, they have some room at the ankle (which helps make them really comfortable -- nothing digging into the front of your ankle or shin when you walk).
