Thanks, all. I am hoping for the best and will definitely let you know whether they work or not. I've seen boot hooks over at my parents' place - I might have to permanently borrow them...

Ladies, you humble me in your dedication to Rory boots. Your names should be engraved somewhere in Frye factory!

I once had a Nordies SA try to sell me some Frye boots with the plastic bag trick. I commute in boots in the winter. I would have to use one pair of bags when leaving home, and bring another set to use to when I was going home. Way too much work.

MNSara, an Indian lady showed me that trick with putting bracelets on; you put your hand in a plastic bag to take the bangles on and off; they slip off so easily.

Gosh, I have these boots and they are comfortable and gorgeous but they are a bit of pain to get on aren't they? I have to try the plastic bag trick this fall. I got them in my regular size 6.5.

You know how the boots have the little loops sewn into each side, about an inch or two down from the top? You put a hook in each loop, and pull. It works best if you're standing and pushing your foot down at the same time.

Easy peasy!

How exactly do these work? I am trying to picture it and can't figure it out.

Ag & MaryK (& cobaltblue when you get the boots) - have you done the plastic bag trick? Putting your foot into a plastic bag, sliding the bagged foot into the boot. The foot probably rips the bag as it is forced in, and you pull the plastic bag out.

The Nordstrom's shoe SA showed me that trick when I struggled to get my foot into a Frye.

Supposedly you only need to do this a few times and the boot should have loosened up after that. . . !?

I had to size UP. I have high arches and although these are extremely comfortable once they are on, I have the WORST time getting them on - like, 5 minutes of swearing and sweating. I only wear them on days when I know I won't have to remove them until I'm done for the day. And I can only wear them with thin socks. It's something to do with the back part above the heel IMO, and it can't be stretched that way according to my cobbler. Grrrr. They are gorgeous boots if they work for you (and that's why I've kept them).

I also hope you're pleasantly surprised, but with Frye, the smallest I've been able to size down from normal was a half size. . .

I think they might be hard to get on. I ordered half size down (I wear 7.5 - 8 and got 7) and I can get them on with some effort. They're a bit tight in the foot but nothing uncomfortable; I just need to wear thin socks.

But they are really really cool boots! I hope they work for you

I just ordered these in black. 5.5 and 6.5 were the only sizes left (deep sale), and I usually wear a 7-7.5. I decided to take a chance because of reviews here that the boot runs large. Did I just mess up? I know I won't know till they get here, but I'd like to know now if I need to prepare for total disappointment! I am so excited to have some nice boots, finally. I'd like to have another pair in grey, perhaps slightly more RATE, but I thought these would be a good first boot of the superior-to-TJMaxx-boots variety.

http://www.zappos.com/frye-ror.....ck-leather

Edit: I ordered the 6.5 pair.
