The riding boots do not have the super slim ankle that you disliked, and if you look at the pics with the feet in stirrups, they are meant to have movement there and be able to scrunch a bit. The ankle looseness doesn't bother me - in my opinion it's the "Frye look" anyway. The pull on styles especially need to be looser in the ankle, otherwise one would never be able to get them on! Angie mentioned in one of my threads this week that she considers ALL fryes to be non-dressy boots since she's never seen one that doesn't look casual. If that's the look you are going for (casual, a bit rugged), I think these are great!
