We are here to hold your hand!

Good questions MPJ and thank you Laura. Go for the grey. They are gorgeous! Your leg line will not suffer as long as you wear your pants at the right length :0)

Size up one half size. For example, I can wear anything from a 6 1/2 to a 7, and I sized up to a 7 1/2 and they are perfect. Cowboy boots need to be roomy, and your foot should slide in them a bit -- that isn't correct fit for other boots, but it is for cowboy boots. And yes, I sprayed them with waterproof spray. For sure!!

You can wear shorties with boot cuts and straight legs. They are super versatile and have great attitude!

I love all these short boot styles and I am drawn to these as my recent back problems are requiring me to wear more flat styles.

But I am nervous about how they would work in my wardrobe. Can any of you post some smart casual and casual outfits with the short boots???

Angie, maybe a blog post?

Laura - Good to hear from another Frye Billy fan. You know, the grey is starting to appeal to me...especially since Nordstrom's doesn't carry tan and Zappos is out of tan in my color. How did you find the sizing? I've heard it's accurate. I think there's still no-snow time left this year..did you waterproof your Fryes? Sorry to pepper you with questions.

Absolutely, you can pair dark denim with light boots. Your instincts are right on

Just thought I'd add one more note...my question about color was probably not well phrased or thought out (is tan an okay color for winter)...what I was getting at is, can you pair a light colored boot with dark clothing (pants) or does it look odd and affect the leg line. I don't currently own any tan/khaki twill pants, so I'd always be pairing this with dark wash denim. I just haven't found any images to see what this looks like in reality. I know that if you're wearing a dress and dark hose, you would not pair it with a light shoe...wondered if this was a similar situation.

That, and apparently I need a LOT of hand-holding in the rebuilding of my wardrobe!!!

I have the Frye Billy shorties in grey and have been wearing them absolutely to death this fall. But, when snow/slush hits, I will definitely be reaching for my Docs or La Canadiennes. These boots have no insulation, and with their light color, I would be concerned about salt staining.

All that said, I can't recommend them enough. They are going to be perfect in spring, too, when you want a lighter colored boot. Those boots Angie posted are totally killer in blue, and look at the price!

Oooh, nice sale, Marianna (btw, I have always said your name correctly in my head! heh).

Angie - those are nice! And good price, too - my wallet would appreciate it. When I ask about waterproofedness I'm mainly thinking about sidewalks and parking lots. I have short snow boots that I would wear to play in they yard with the kids, but would like something that will hold up to a NE winter even if we drive everywhere (still have to brave a slushy parking lot to get to the store and so on). However, not every day is slushy, and I think I'd get enough wear out of these boots even if I only wore them on non-slushy days.

Cricket - that is definitely a question for Angie! :)

The more I think about it, the more I think I'll give the Billy boot a shot - sooo adorable (and has the YLF stamp of approval). Maybe I'll even make it to Nordstrom's so I can try them on in person instead of ordering them.

I have some Ariat boots very similar in style to these, and I'm just curious if these can be worn smart-casual, or just casual? I'd love to wear mine more than I do, and don't really know how. Help?

I love both pairs and they are a great investment. Fryes should last you for years. I don't prefer one over the other... they're both totally fab!

I am totally loving the short boots and I just bought these tonight: http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/30.....2&P=1

Fab boots! I’ve had both of these styles on, and have clients who love them. They are quite comfortable and the grey is really nice in both styles too. Of course you can wear tan shoes in Winter! I’d welcome it, especially for Spring.

These aren’t snow or slush boots though (unless you commute by car). Rain will work if you waterproof with spray.

But these boots are even more comfortable in my opinion and the ones I would personally get if I didn't have my slouchy Frye boots already:

Okay, I'm collecting my pennies here and have narrowed it down to two pairs. I would love advice on color and which pair.

I just got one new pair of dark wash boot cut jeans (seen here: ) which I am planning on duplicating (they were only $24.95!). I currently own a short red puffer and a 3/4 length black puffer (I'll post pix soon of the latter, still has tags on). So those are the main colors I'm working with.

Can I get away with tan in the winter?

My favorite color/boot combos are:

http://www.zappos.com/images/z.....1117185916
Frye Billy in light tan

I particularly like the stitching on the toe, as I feel it's subtle, but you'll still see in when wearing boot cut jeans.

The other pair in contention is the Frye Carson shortie, also in tan.
http://www.zappos.com/images/z.....1118140516

Actually, I secretly covet in in the burnt red, but I never did like the harsh contrast of black and red (which I'd get if I kept/wore the 3/4 length puffer) and of course, it's matchy matchy with my short red puffer.

The Billy boot is also quite a bit cheaper than the Carson.

Thoughts, advice? Do these hold up in rain/slush/snow?
