I must not be trying enough stuff from J.Crew, because I find their sizing on the more consistent side compared to other retailers (like Anthro). It may be my body type--I'm a rectangle which is close to what they design for (slim hourglass, IIRC). I am almost always the same size in buttondowns, with occasional size up/down, and jeans as well. I'm between sizes in alpha-sized tops so I just try both.

Ha, and this seems "consistent" to me!

Also, there is lots of stuff at J.Crew that just doesn't fit me at all because it's cut for curvier figure / smaller waist. I write those pieces off completely and don't consider them mis-sized, because going two sizes up wouldn't fit me properly in the chest anyway.

I'm glad that you were able to find the right size in the end, even if the actual size is mind-boggling.

It sounds rather annoying when sizes are as inconsistent as that. Commiserations. Some fab pieces however. Love the tweed jacket!

YES. J.Crew can be all over the place with sizing. I guess it is what it is. It doesn't stop me from purchasing from J.Crew though. I love their stuff.

I was contemplating this very issue over the last week as I ordered a few J Crew items on eBay (I rarely buy, and occasionally sell). I have 2 pairs of Matchstick jeans Size 28 that I love, so I jumped at the chance to get a pair in the same size, Matchstick stretch jeans for $8.50! Alas, they are a different cut and different fabric - tighter! I actually can wear them, but it took a while for the denim to relax enough to feel comfortable. Inconsistent sizing is the enemy of eBay shopping!

Yes! Actually, I ordered a skirt recently from J. Crew in the smaller of the two sizes that I usually wear, and it was almost two sizes too big! I took it back to the store, and the SA told me that they have been struggling with inconsistent sizing lately. So you're definitely not the only one!

I don't have a JCrew in my area and I don't often order online because I don't feel confident in the sizing. Ordering multiple sizes of everything tires me out eventually and makes my checking account activity look scary! I find BR pretty consistent and many of the brands that Nordroms carries somewhat consistent. That's probably why I do most of my on line ordering at the same places.

Yeah, I can commiserate; I did a big order from J Crew recently, including multiple sizes not available at my local store, and ended up keeping just one top. None of the bottoms fit right. It was basically a strike-out and I hate playing the guessing game with sizes. But that's fine; I'm pushing myself to shop more sustainably and ethically anyway.

I agree, JC sizing is especially frustrating. I have thirteen (count 'em, 13) different JC sizes depending on item, material, cut, etc. Ugh!

J. crew is a huge struggle for me. The shoulder fit is never consistent and waist size often varies by item.

That's such a common problem. I would think that brands would have some sort of sizing standard that they follow when setting up the different sizes for each design, and that they should test them, see what the factory produces as the sample run and then make changes as needed. But perhaps they skip some of those steps to get items to the stores faster?

Those colors are going to be so nice on you if you can find the right fits.

I have had this problem with BR, so I no longer order from them. We have a local store, but I don't go there that much. I simply don't have the time or the patience for inconsistent sizing.

At JCrew, the Jackie cardigans in XS are way too small on me, but size 0 woven shirts are perfect. That's the only thing I've noticed there.

At BR, I find in the Sloan pants I take a size 4P, but in some of the other pant cuts I take a size 0P (quite a size difference). It's possible the reason for this is that I'm am sizing down to a 0P de-slouch the pant and that a 4P would more accurately reflect the intent of the pant. Not sure.

I'm finding sizing especially inconsistent and frustrating lately. How can one size 6 dress fit me fine, and a 10 in another is too small? That's just crazy.

Not sure about JCrew. I'm completely off of them these days because they seem to be cutting more and more straight, and it doesn't fit my body.

I found some items I liked in the last J Crew catalog so I decided to try them out. The sizing was wonky, very wonky. (I have tried these items for sizes so I know)

The boucle jacket worked best in size 6, although the size 4 may be okay it's possibly short in the arms, the skirt in size 4.
The fluted skirt worked best in size 2. (Really, size 2. I needed to double check that because I have never taken a 2 before and I have not lost any weight.)

The silk camisole worked best in an extra small. (Help)!
The Linen dress worked in a size 4 and it has sleeves but the jacket above was better in a 6, maybe because the sleeves are longer???

The cardigan works best in a size medium. The small fits also, but the sleeves are too short in the small. I used to take a size small in the exact same cardigan. In fact, I have one in regular rotation in my closet. What's up here?

So confusing.

By the way, I really like the way the white denim dress looks. I think it's great for a rectangle shaped person. The boucle is very nice. Very very nice. I will post some pics eventually. Maybe...

Is anyone else finding this kind of size inconsistency within a store/brand?
It's very frustrating!
