Dresses that fit seem to be prettier on my pear-shaped body- but it is soooo hard to find them long enough for my age. One thing I love about winter is I can pull out dresses that felt a little short with bare legs and make them work with tights. (And layering)

I have spent so long in jeans and pants, though, I'm finding it an incredible challenge to bring dresses into the daily rotation. But- I'm not giving up!

Dresses are my go-to item for our long hot summers (and spring, and fall). It just makes sens to put on a single garment if I can get away with it.

First of all, I didn’t expect anyone to say “neither”. Hah! It caught me off guard and made me laugh.

Thanks for the responses, ladies. I think we have a good mix of frock and skirt gals around here – I say as I am in a pencil skirt with hose. Marianna, we are going to help you get over your frock phobia. You have the potential to look amazing in a dress and it’s going to happen.

I prefer to layer under and over dresses actually. I find that I have infinite variety. But this might actually be because I have a huge boot, hose, jacket and coat collection at my disposal – changing these elements can make the same frock feel entirely different.

I am at the stage right now where all I want to do is wear skirts and frocks each day. I wonder how long this will last!

I love the variety of styling potential for skirts, but because of the shirt length factor, I find it easier to go with dresses (or frocks, as Angie calls them ;-).
I did recently purchase a denim skirt that I am looking forward to getting alot of wear out of.

Frocks, definitely. I have been on a bit of casual dress kicj lately. I like skirts too, especially pencil cuts, but they are more constricting and limit the occasions in which I could actually wear them.

I love super-fitted sheath dresses but I am yet to find the right one. My fit issues are the long torso and small waist, what ever fits at chest/hips does not at the waist; and usually these dresses are quite elaborate, with a lot of seaming, so tailoring is not an option.

Reading all of these responses brought to mind that when I was in highschool in the early 70's we finally won the right to wear pants to school, BUT, no jeans. So ofcourse out of defiance we girls just wore the jeans anyway and they couldn't send every girl home everyday for wearing jeans, so the faculty just dropped the rule. This is probably where my love of jeans began. Now it just seems odd to wear a dress or a skirt, or dress pants, when I can wear good looking nice jeans.

I too prefer the look of skirts and dresses over pants, on me. I prefer dresses to skirts, very slightly. Dresses are much more of a summer thing for me, as it is hard to find ones that are warm enough for winter.

Lately I'm wearing dresses with patterned tights and boots. My favorite combination!

I love dresses and would wear everyday except that it gets cold here and dresses are usually not warm enough. I also find that the only colors I can find dresses in these days are purple, black and grey- I am soo sick of those colors!!! When I find a dress I can afford that is the right color I am all over it, I love simplicity. Sweater dresses are never in the right colors for me and the pilling factor turns me off to them, although I love them in theory. When are earth tones going to be in the stores? I read somewhere that there are more winter complexions than any other season which would explain why that is who the retailers market to. I wonder if that is true, sure seems like it.

Last year before my weight loss, I hunted high and low for dresses but couldn't find any that fit, so I stuck with skirts because I love 'em. My legs have always been one of my best features, so I tried to play that up whenever I could.

This year, it has been all dresses, all the time, and I don't see that ending anytime soon. At the moment, the skirts I do have are too snug, but I definitely envision folding them back into my wardrobe in a month or two when they fit again.

It's all about the dress over here! Especially now that I understand the rules about wearing shorter tops with skirts. I'm less comfortable in more cropped garments, plus they're harder to find in my experience. And can you beat the comfort of a one-piece item that ideally flows seamlessly with your body? Didn't think so.

I was a skirt girl for years, but in the past year or two I've been wearing more dresses. I'm not sure why that is, exactly, but I do find it simpler to create looks with dresses, and often they're more comfortable to wear, as well. Perhaps I'm just getting lazy!

These days, though, I'm more likely to wear jeans than anything. Or, as I am right now, pyjamas

I pretty much live in pants these days but I do prefer dresses to skirts. I hate the way skirts cut me in half and love the way dresss are less "choppy" that way. I am also long waisted and find that it can be tough to find attractive tops that are long enough to wear with my skirts.

I have an easier time finding skirts that fit me rather than dresses, but I prefer the simplicity of dresses as well as the fact that they don't shift around like separates. However, like Taylor, I find it easier to layer with skirts. Wonder why?

Skirts, for now ... I have a terrible time finding dresses that fit my funky proportions. I persist in trying them on though. Sheath dresses seem to be best bec. they're structured but if they fit through the midriff the shoulders hang and the hips are way to big. I sure love the looks in today's blog post.

I wear dresses from the start of spring until the start of fall...For all the reasons you mention...just throw on a dress and shoes...keeps me cool in the summer, and look pulled together

I wear skirts in the winter, the reason is I FREEZE and I stay warmer if I can layer.... a cami w/a sweater , skirt tights, boots, boyfriend sweater/coat , scarf . I guess skirts just seem easier to layer for me:)

Frocks, for sure! I love skirts, because I find them very versatile and fun to mix and match, but I love the statement a dress makes. It is a whole outfit on its own. Layering is always an option, but if the frock is interesting (and the weather is cooperating), it often doesn't need anything but great shoes and jewelry, or possibly a scarf. It's so easy to just throw one on and go.

The clocks went back at the weekend but somebody forgot to tell my DD2, this feels like a strange topic to be contemplating at 3:50am!

I'm going to say skirts, maybe because I'm a rectangle and don't have allot of waist definition or perhaps because I am short waisted but I feel more curvy in separates.

When I wear a dress I often add a belt for definition, breaking the eye line at my natural waist, trying to create the illusion of an hourglass. In effect creating the look of separates.

I also noticed that when I posted my cocktail wear for evaluation it was the skirt and top combination which scored the killer rating.

I like frocks best but have a very hard time finding any that fit well except for sleeveless sheaths and an occasional wrap dress. The problem is armholes cut too low and too much room in the bust area. Last year while in another city I tried on a DVF ruched dress at a consignment shop. It was still over $100 and hugged my rear, which I'm not used to, and my weight was not stable yet. But ever since, I've thought of that dress and wondered if I should have bought it.

Neither at the mo. my dress and skirt collection (a gross overstatement, btw) is pretty sad. Both pose challenges for me.

Skirts: I look better in separates (I think), but it's sooo hard finding shirts that are the right length for skirts! I also don't look so fab in full or a-line skirts (though I sometimes wear them anyway for comfort). Pencil skirts look best on me but are not always comfortable.

Dresses: Fitted dresses are a constant battle. I adore the girly, funky, cheerful dresses they have on Modcloth, but all of them seem to be for whittled waistlines. I like my relaxed sack dresses but it does get boring having only one silhouette in my closet. The love affair with empire waists also makes for a frustrating search. I just always feel like whenever I look for a fitted dress, I gravitate towards boring dresses that are too old for me because they are the most flattering.

I'll admit I haven't put enough effort in this department though, so I think once I get a get a chance to try on 101 dresses at Macys (ugh), I'll probably get a better feel for what works for me. Assuming I'm right, I think I would prefer the ease of dresses.
