I just found your post and your comments gave me chills, Beth Ann. I was a youngster traveling in the South with my grandparents and recall the murders of the three young men who were registering voters there in June, 1964, when they were murdered. I recall seeing it on the news in our motel room and it was a life-changing experience for me, even though I didn't understand the depth of it at the time. RIP James Chaney, Andrew Goodman, and Michael Schwerner.

Let's all dress with "dignity in our hearts" and thank you for this special remembrance.

Yes, definitely, I think about this all the time. I grew up thinking looks weren't important, can't judge a book by its cover, etc. But now that I am in a position of responsibility, I try to dress in a way that shows I respect my mission and that I hope others will too. It seems that other generations understood this better and yours is a perfect example.

I'm watching a PBS documentary about the Civil Rights Freedom Riders (1961). Inspiring, sobering story. When I saw a woman stumbling off a bus they had tried to burn around her in perfectly pressed, polished white cotton shirtdress, with perfect pearl earrings, I realized something. They all dressed with pride and care, because they knew what they were doing was important. The dignity in their hearts was reflected in something as superficial as their clothing. Now THAT is fab!
