It helps me feel I’m making the right decision to pass them by online. I did poke around a bit for Canadian availability but Freebird isn’t mentioned on the SM site. I believe the reason Instagram put their ad in my feed was ‘now shipping to canada’, so I figure that’s the only way. They don’t appear to have much retail at all unless they sell through department stores etc, all they mention on their website are a few stores in Colorado and Utah.</p> <p>The $100 SM shoes were simple summer espadrilles and literally fell apart in multiple places. So for me they were way lower quality than say $20-30 shoes from Old Navy. Overall yes I do agree, there’s a race to the bottom for both price and quality all over retail, and since we as consumers aren’t generally willing to pay much, we can’t expect much. At which point $250ish for good quality boots doesn’t seem so bad if I could see and try them on first!</p> <p>Angie you are dead on that these would be ‘my’ (distressed, stompy, off white) white boots, *if* they matched the picture. I must admit I have a hard time connecting quality with Steve Madden due to the $100 pair of shoes I bought there that completely self-destructed upon wearing. Which I tried to glue back together rather than bringing back, what was I thinking?!? And now I can't bring myself to go into the stores :)<br />Anyway, reading the reviews and looking hard at the stock photos rather than the styled ones, it seems the colours are somewhat misrepresented (ie/ the "taupe" which looks cream in the photo is actually a light blue, the black ones are actually brown according to several reviewers). So I won't take a chance ordering given how much it costs us to ship stuff back to the US. The Steve Madden store here doesn't have the Freebird line anymore, which made me wonder if it wasn't being made anymore.
