They were literally in my car to return when I decided to bring them back inside for another try on, and decided to keep them. I have worn them for 2 winters without a problem. My late dad had a way of fixing the problem for me, he would put a little bit of oil on the area that was rough and hammer it. That process softened it and didn't cause the rubbing anymore. I have also dealt with the rubbing by putting a bandaid on my leg where I know the rubbing will occur. I did wear them with wool socks for awhile and it was worth the effort. Boots with that shaft height either need to be leather lined , or very very soft to begin with . The heel hight is good (my max these days), and I LOVE the square toe and color.</p> <p>But for me, the top edge is stiff and rough--even with the extra room in the shaft. I will not likely wear them with socks, tights or knee-hi stockings as a buffer. They will likely soften up, so maybe I need to spend a little more time in them around the house before I decide for sure.</p> <p>So... for the price and the foot comfort, these are a solid <b>MAYBE.</b></p> Anyone else have a similar experience? </p>
