This is very interesting to me. Since early spring, I've added one pair of replacement white jeans and a couple of pairs of light denim. I've yet to wear the white jeans but reach for the light denim all. the. time. Hmmm ...

I do have a preppy streak (teenager in the 80s) but my mid-forties body is decidedly NOT preppy (squishy), so I don't sport preppy much. Maybe that's why I'm not wearing the white. I'm also quite RATE in my style (very casual) so maybe the white jeans are too polished. I'm going to try and style them this weekend. Thanks for the insight!

I don't wear white jeans much either. Don't mind some preppiness, but white is simply not practical for me most of the time.
I like the light wash jeans, even though they are definitely more on the casual side.
By no means RATE, but Boden carries jeans in all sorts of colors (selection is better in ankle and cropped though).

Thanks! Now I know why I don't like white jeans; crisp is not in my style description. I could definitely incorporate some highly faded jeans into my summer wardrobe as a substitute.

Cute jeans!

I used to feel the same way you do about white jeans - too crisp, too polished, etc. but then I found some True Religion distressed BF jeans that I loved -'which led me then to getting a pair of GAP distressed ( much more than the TRs) jeans which I've almost worn out because I wear them so much! I really think there is a way to wear white jeans while maintaining a RATE style!

Fascinating. I love white jeans (but am the last thing from RATE) but I also would love a super faded jean -- just not a "yellowish" dingy one! Well, my loss is your gain. And I am super glad you have found your summer jean.

Too bad they didn't make BOTH those faded washes (like on the Nordies site and your photos); then we'd both be thrilled, because I'm a fellow Dre lover!

Nope, I'm not a fan of stonewashed jeans either. If the jeans aren't faded enough, they just look like -- as Greyscale says -- "regular old jeans". And I'm not going for the "normcore" look, if that's even still a thing.

I think I'm going to call this wash "dingy super-faded blue jeans". The jeans look great with either a black or white top, and black leather shoes -- both chunky heels and flat oxfords.

Una, I think the colour is off in the Nordstrom photos. The ones I posted are very close to the real thing. They are very pale and look slightly yellowish where the fading is.

Ceit, copy away! I think the key is the colour -- they are so faded out, and a little dirtyish-looking. Jeans that are too blue or -- ack -- periwinkle do not read as RATE to me, but as SNL mom jeans. (And no matter how you slice or dice it, mom jeans are mom jeans).

Greyscale, I agree -- slouchy white jeans are less polished than fitted ones. Actually, I could see my self wearing baggy white BF jeans if they had rips in them. Then they might be RATE enough. But I've got two pairs of distressed jeans in my closet right now, and much as I like them, that's plenty.

Those are really cool jeans. I have one pair of white jeans but rarely wear them. I think your analysis is right. Also I find I get them dirty in one wear - which does not go with the crisp look. These look far more practical. Ps right now I am at a dog park and there is a smoochy dog (not mine!) sitting in my lap (bless her). Lucky I am not wearing white jeans!

I had a bleached out grey pair that were similar - they worked with pretty much everything. The only white jeans I have are a MUCH lighter weight denim in a boyfriend style which make them great for hotter days.

Yes!! I have this problem too. Super-bleached-out blue is the perfect solution. I got a pair that I thought was faded enough, but they still read as regular old jeans, so I'll keep an eye out for something even more faded. Bleached gray is an option too but harder to find.

What a great find. I t hink this is a great example of working to interpret items for the individual. For some it's, gotta have white, but the essence is, light, fresh, pale, cool, summery--so can be achieved different ways.
I do have a pair of white jeans, but a major player is my pair of Gap pale gray linen pants--they tend to feel more like me, but provide my "fix" of pale summery vibe.

You articulated why polished white jeans have been so hard for me to wear. It's too close to preppy ... requires much different separates than I usually buy.

I do have some shredded white BFs but otherwise I find white bottoms extremely hard to wear! The Nordstrom stock photos of these look quite different - more like the clean bleached fade I don't like rather than the slightly dirty natural fade your pics show. Which pics would you say are more accurate?

Excellent You expressed my thoughts regarding white jeans EXACTLY. I have an image in my head of those ones you see in "women's" mall fashion stores that have little studs, embroidery, and other assorted doodads sewn about the hems and pockets - and they are usually cropped or capris. I have tried them over and over every year wishing I could nail down that NYC cool girl on the street, but i feel like i look like a middle aged dork in mine. I am wearing super faded light weight denim right now in fact, and I think that's as while as I'll go. I don;t understand my own thinking because people like Shannon, Suz, and Angie look great in theirs, but on me? They accent thighs and look matronly. Over and done. I love these R&B's!

Count me in on the gray/faded team; I've worn white jeans to various social gatherings but am not comfortable in them for everyday casual life. Yet I think other people look just fine in them.

They look great! I have a pair of the cream BR jeans from last year that I like a lot more than the bright white ones I replaced. They have a very casual vibe not unlike the ones tulle was referring to. I also have several light faded jeans and agree that they are a nice alternative for some of us.
