What I removed is the metal thingie (technical term) on a thin leather strap that is shaped like a keyhole. It did clink against our new red truck whenever I'd get in or out, which I did not like, so that's why I left it tucked in. That way the bag still has the charm of the key, but it doesn't clank on things.
