Thanks, Lyn67! Some of these may be tucked into my bag for Florida. Looking at my exchange with Bijou though, Cat2’s comment, and my general whininess about not being able to put on more stuff, I think I’m going to do a capsule challenge when I get back. Instead of the usual seasonal switch, I’ll put everything but this stuff in the cellar, then pull up only things I can wear with these pieces. I’ve got a week’s worth of outfits sketched out already. It’s too cold to wear them yet, but April should be the right weather for it.

Love these (with a few exceptions) and YLF in all-and for me they appeal the most from your all wiw's to date, probable of the more conventional shapes and lengths(?). The few exceptions are 8&16 (black and navy there is too dark for me) and 13 where the bohemian top's style and color offsets the skirts simple &fab athletic or sporty vibe. That bohemian tan top will rather do a great outfit with your jeans, I think. But, pls remember all my obs. are very subjective-listen to other's, too. Especially love the boxy cut of the blue sleeveless top, and that skirt in nr 3-4& 15-16. I don't know about Florida weather at all, but think you did a good job all over.

Bijou, you know me and Florida-type weather so well! The weather, I think, is similar to where you live. The jeans are my security blanket that I should probably pull out of the suitcase because it is unlikely that I’ll be able to wear them at all.

Isn’t it funny that we all have such clear inbuilt preferences? When I see people saying that layers are hard, I don’t know what they mean—I find it much simpler and happier to just wear all the stuff. Other people look at that sundress & probably think “woah, that’s really busy and colorful” whereas I think “it needs a ls T layered underneath, patterned tights, a necklace with multiple strands, and shiny boots”. Who does that, lol?

Why did you post that last outfit, that one sets the benchmark so very high and is completely you!

I think you look good in the jeans, but will they be too hot to wear in Florida? My favourites of the second set of photos (which are clearer) are #1 and #2 - the white top and blue skirt and the palm print with the blue sleeveless top.

Your jumpsuit is a complete winner and I would imagine just perfect for Florida.

How wonderful to be able to throw a bunch of pictures online, go to sleep for the night, and wake up to helpful comments! Looking at all the opinions about various shirts with the skirts, I see an emerging, very clear consensus that I do not have a home run; at best I have pop flies that are going to land right by the foul line. I will take the linen top to wear with the jeans, but otherwise I have orphans, the dreaded and infamous skirt orphans. I hope you don’t mind if I don’t address each commented by name. I’ve addressed the common concerns which popped up repeatedly without tagging a string of names who voiced each one. Hope you are ok with that.

The blue pencil skirt is made of rayon, a very thick, cuddly knit, the kind you might leave on for a couple hours after taking pictures, if you’re me. The palm fronds skirt is very comfortable woven fabric, but if I wore it out and about, I would remember to put play clothes on when I got home.

I don’t expect the usual Florida AC problems—we (the whole famdamily) are going out to brunch once, dinner once, and otherwise hanging out at my parents’, and my dad is constantly too cold. If I do get chilly in the AC at their house, I can step onto the lanai. If I could layer at all, the blue skirt might not be an orphan, but this is Florida in late springtime. How bizarre that after years of living there, I default to “Euro” rather than “beachy”.

For Easter brunch, I’m wearing this dress without all the extra stuff, just a simple sundress with pearls. When we go out to eat, I’ll wear the jumpsuit. That’s probably enough palm print anyway. Most days at their house, I plan on spending a lot of time outside in a swimsuit. I will throw in a couple of simple dresses for lounging at home, maybe shorts with sleeveless tops (GR, thanks for the compliment!). don’t need to go into overtime in this game.

Thanks again for all your comments! Even though I’m calling the game off, they were quite helpful.

Blue pencil skirt – not knowing the fabric, looks more business that casual. Is it comfortable to move around in? Are you expecting a more dressed-up event?

Blue/lime skirt – fun! Looks good with the crop top, blue tank, white tank. I like the skirt - has bright colors you can work with.

Crop top and jeans #5 – looks good

Pale blue(?) tank with flower print – not a fan – looks too small, doesn’t work with the skirts - waaaaay too casual (maybe with jeans or shorts or bikini bottoms). Personally not a fan of the bra straps and spaghetti strap combo (on anyone!).

Cream boho top – seems too sheer, crumply and casual for the skirts. Maybe wear a tank under it with the jeans.

Have you done any pencil-and-paper figuring of the number of things you'll need for the number of days you're away? This helps me with trip planning - also a good checklist to make sure I bring enough bras 'n panties! In my own ideal world - every top should go with every bottom - ideally that is :-)

The pencil skirt suits your shape the most in my opinion. Its slimming for you as well. Your profile says apple but I think that could have changed since losing weight? To me you look like a rectangle right now and the skirt nips you in at the waist and gives you an hourglass. Its always better with the tops tucked in. The other loser clothes actually make you look wider, which is obviously okay if that's the style you are going for but in the future I'd look for waisted skirts and tuck in your tops

From the OP I like numbers 1, 4, 5, 14, & 15. I see the trend in the ones I like is sleeveless! You have great arms, and I think the sleeveless tops also work well with the skirt silhouettes. I like the boho white blouse as well but want to see it with different bottoms. Do you anticipate needing anything warmer for indoor A/C? The white blouse could be part of that outfit if needed.

The short sleeve tops I like least on you- but it'll be too hot in FL for them anyway. I too don't see you as preppy. I like the hibiscus top and pencil skirt a lot, and 4 looks like a good casual outfit for your trip too.

This is for your upcoming trip to see family, right?
With that in mind, I like the printed skirt with the tucked in blue tank (though I agree the bag is off -- I think it's too cool and muted). I also like the cropped linen tank with your 501s, and echo the suggestion to try the boho top with the 501s too. The pencil skirt looks really nice on you though I agree with Jenn, the style doesn't quite say relaxing times with family to me. That said, it makes a nice silhouette with the hibiscus tank.

From the first post, I like: 1, 2, 5-7, 9-15. I also like the colours of 3 and 4, but the tops don’t feel quite right with the skirt to me. Maybe it’s the cut of the armholes in 4 and the starkness of the white bag bisecting you and no other appearance of white. With 3, shoes might make a difference to me... I’m not sure if the fabric of the top and skirt play well either.

Using the numbering from the OP, I really like the sporty vibe of #4, with the belt bag and the palm-print skirt.

I'm very drawn to #9 and #11; they feel more Euro and less beachy to me. I can picture them with chunky oxfords or, like Doc Martens t-straps. That may or may not encourage you to pack them for Florida.

I think both of those collared shirts could look good with the 501s, and agree with Jenn that the white boho top would be worth a try with jeans as well.

I also like the white tank with both skirts; that would probably be the easiest pairing if you think you'll need to throw on a topper at all (AC indoors?).

I really like the boho top on you. I’d wear it with shorts and .. well, I don’t wear real sandals much, due to feet issues, but would otherwise. Also try with your jeans.
The other shirts look too short and tight-really, they don’t look like they fit you now or are your clothes. But it’s fun to compare with the boho top, because I would not recommend you get bigger collared polos or new high crew neck tops as replacements, because those just do not look like “ you” to me. Other necklines seem much more flattering. All of the prep stuff - and I like preppy- doesn’t give a great vibe compared to some other things you’ve shown, and I really am not style- analytical enough to break down why. .
Maybe try the black top with your high waisted jeans also.
Now, it’s a given that that is just my opinion, and everyone is entitled to love and wear any styles.

Helena and ChristieIJ, glad you like the pencil skirt. It’s surprisingly comfortable for me.

Unfrumped, agreed that the cut-outs are odd. I would’ve had to figure out how to deal with them if I’d gotten that top, but I won’t, because it’s sold out.

Angie, thanks for your comments. I won’t worry about the zippers. The tank in 4 best with high rise?

It sounds like I’ve got ok base hits, but no home runs, not even a double. I pulled out a bunch more shirts for another inning. The shirts are from 4 decades and men’s and women’s aisles.

The pictures aren’t the greatest—I tried several times, but live photos on my phone isn’t working, so the timer caught me in some awkward poses and I’m not sure the flash went off at the right time, but I tried them all several times. These are the same shots I just added to the original post.
Does anything catch your eye?

I really like #1. Great silhouettes! I can see it finished off with white or silver footwear.

If the colours in #3 match, it's a good HOT and humid Summer outfit sans a/c.

Try the white tank with the citrus and blue skirt too.

Length of the tank in #4 is fine, and best with a high rise.

The blue tweed top is a pretty color, but very seasonally- confused to me. A tweedy acrylic blend that is sleeveless , says dry clean —but even if hand- washable, it’s not a warm weather/ outdoor - friendly fabric to me.
Also I’m not a fan of the stealth high side cutouts. I guess they may make it “ different, but also less versatile, for such a formal fabric.
A classic shell in a warmish tweed fabric would also be seasonally confused to me, but could play a role in wardrobes requiring suit jackets or cardigans all day indoors, and often a shell layers much better under tailored jackets, and it would be fun to change up the usual fabrications.

I love the pencil skirt on you and think it would be good with the tweed tank you are eyeing. I also really like the print skirt with the shorter silk tank, for very casual.

I like all these, although the tank seems a little too short to my eye, as you mention. The pencil skirt looks great; I agree that it is quite a classic look for your style, but I think it could be a great base for accessories, etc. The print skirt is cute, although it looks more 'beach athleisure' to me than going about the day style.

On this one, I also turned up the brilliance to get the color of the skirt better. It is very blue & a little purple. a “me” color, but the shape & length aren’t what I usually wear.

I think Rachylou was right that it’s lack of light that makes the pix quality so poor. I considered running out to the hallway for these, but the cleaners were here, mopping.

I cranked the sharpness and definition on these up to 100%. They look weird on my phone, but let’s see what happens to them with the ylf software.

ETA I think these pix look better. Do y’all agree?

The jeans and top-outfit is really good! It looks very modern retro early '00s. The cropped top and high waisted jeans are spot on current and trendy. The skirts look OK, but to me they are not "you". Not feeling neither the shape or colour for you.. (and how's it going on troubleshooting the blurry pics?). How exiting about your coming trip!

Sorry for all the posts relating to our upcoming trip & everything else.

These are a couple things that caught my eye as I sorted my summer clothes last night. I seem to be thinking of the sea! But I could use help here.

What do we think of exposed zippers these days, gold or sour citrus?

Also, I’d need to find more exciting outfits for any of these blue pieces. I used to have a T-shirt the lighter blue shade in the palm skirt, and have enough other things (paisley cord skirt, paisley shirt) with that color in it that I’d wear another. Used to have a green T in a shade that probably would’ve worked too. But I’d like to do, you know, something more interesting than a 1:1 replacement for things that wore out. A symphony of blues, with a tank & the belt bag, sounded better than it looks. Maybe I need a turquoise vest.

As much as I like the silk tank, I clearly need higher-waisted bottoms to wear with it. I’m not feeling the linen tank with the 501s either—it seems to highlight my little potbelly by framing it so perfectly.

I’m tempted to try this gorgeous tweed top from Angie’s recent post with the blue skirt or the jeans, but that’s probably because I want an excuse to get it anyway.

What shapes and strategies would work with these blue tops and skirts? All ideas, suggestions, and jokes will be appreciated.
