Hi there and welcome!
You could check out myshape.com for some ideas on what to look for in a dress. They label the body shapes with letters- I"m guessing you would be an "E".
Start with this page.
http://www.myshape.com/shop/shape-anatomy/shape-e

also, macy's has a dress finder by body shape on their website- peruse through here to get ideas.

Hi, All,

I'm new here--this is my first post. Thanks for a great site, Angie!

I am a classic apple shape and am looking for some help preparing for two semi-formal events (a fancy wedding and a local awards ceremony) this May/June. Since it's so hard for me to find good clothes, I'm starting the search early!

Because my tummy is so large, I rarely wear dresses; generally, I look much better in separates that don't highlight my midsection. But I'd really like to get a special dress this time. Even better if I can find something classic and flattering and then I won't have to worry about this next time I have a fancy occasion!

Most of what I've found on the internet recommends empire waistlines, but in my experience, those look pretty dreadful on me...since I also have a large bust, empire just makes me look pregnant and/or like an extra in a pirate wench movie. ;-)

Suggestions on what to look for? Brands? Stores? Thank you!
