I prefer the first black dress by far! It has more of a grown-on sleeve as opposed to a cap. I also prefer you in a sheath silhouette. FWIW!

I love both of those on you. I don't see a problem with the cap sleeve as it isn't tight and like Lynne said, it goes on a diagonal which flatters. I hadn't even noticed it until I read the comments actually.

I say keep both!

Hmm, opinions are divided on the black dress. I'm ambivalent too - I'll have to try it on a time or two and see if I can decide. Sveta, good idea about altering the sleeves, but since it's a wide neck, I think turning it into sleeveless will look out of proportion. Never hurts to pin it up and see how it looks, though.

Thanks, everyone, for your feedback. Every detail and suggestion is very helpful.

I like the first dress on you. Any of those belts and shoes work with it IMO. You do not need to match belt and shoes all the time so have fun using different belts and shoes! You can also layer a thin turtleneck or shirt or blouse under this dress.
I am not sure about the knit dress. Shape is flattering on you but I am not sure about the sleeves. They do not look awful but not falttering either. I have compared with how your arms look in the first dress I definitely prefer the first dress look for sleeves!
If you sew you can alter the cap sleeves - I did on my dress and it made all the difference.
Pants look too short for heels.

Wow! Score on the dresses. I love the sheath on you. What a flattering fit. I prefer it without the belt and with the long necklace. Fab! I like the idea of the belts but they look like they are too low on your waist. Can you hitch it up a bit higher? The knit dress is a great basic! I think you'll get a ton of use out of both!

I love the black dress from Target! The extended cap sleeve is fine because it falls at a nice diagonal across the arm. The pants are better with flats - and those are cute ones!

I think both dresses are great, especially for fall! Seems like you could throw on a structured, short-ish jacket, along with some tights and boots, and look fab. I'm not sure about the pants length--too hard to tell in the picture.

the sheath dress looks great especially the tuck detail at the neckline. i like the pleating detail in the shoe and the heel echoing these tucks.

all great looks!

edit: i'm not as fond of the target dress precisely for the reason you stated...the cap sleeve seems to cut you off at the widest portion of your arm. not as flattering as either a sleeveless or a longer sleeve shirt.

Oh.. That dress is lovely!!!!!!!!!!!
You look so slim in it!
You can wear it with the red belt!
Black or nude sandals, a red cardigan for cooler days!

I have fallen off the SYC bandwagon - Target and the thrift store proved too much for me.

My first item was strictly speaking an exchange - a smaller size in a gray tweed pencil skirt. Also picked up a sheath dress in the same fabric as the skirt - here’s a picture, and a neckline closeup where you can see the fabric better (the smudges are my mirror, not the dress!). I love it and I think it fits quite well, but I’m waffling as far as wearability into fall/winter. Besides a sweater, I’m not sure how to layer it. Here’s some accessory ideas - red belt and shoes, black patent belt and shoes, and black belt and gray heels. Any of them look any good?

The other thing I got @ Tarjay was this black knit dress. Full length & neckline closeup. I’ve been needing to replace my summer black knit dress (pilling) and I love this one except I’m unsure about the extended cap sleeves on me. Thoughts?

On PPL - I picked up these cuffed trouser jeans @ Goodwill. Here they are with wedges, and with ballet flats. Are they OK with the higher heel, or no?
