Are you comfortable in a wedge slingback heel all day long? If so then definitely go for it. I prefer a lower wedge (1 inch or so) in very soft leather for all day casual shoes where I need to walk around a lot.

I hate getting my feet wet at all so I look for more of a closed shoe that I can wear with jeans. Not sure what that will be yet.

In Toronto, we get a lot of rain during spring, summer and fall. I have lots of lovely shoes that I simply NEVER wear because I worry about the suede or leather getting beaten to a pulp in case of an unexpected downpour. I'd love to read some suggestions from Angie on what to wear during hot weather that could turn to summer deluge at any given moment.

Khris, our summers are extreme opposites and I think you do incredibly well dressing for the dry heat.

Angie, I had never really considered dressing for a wet but hot summer, that would change the requirements drastically.

Maya, I'm very lucky that my feet are unfussy but my toes will rub when wet.

I guess I'm off to Clarks for the comfort test. I hope they work as they are very cute.

Love those shoes for you, Julie. I agree- I bought a new pair of (gladiator) sandals last year and barely got any wear out of them! I've now got 2 pairs of flat ones and 1 chunky heeled one, and that's enough for me. I'm going to try to save my shoe money this summer, for some new boots come Fall!

I *love* the shoes you linked to! That seems like a great compromise: open-heeled instead of open-toed.

My climate is not like yours, but when we do get rain, I actually find closed shoes less comfortable than sandals. I end up with little puddles in my shoes, and nothing is more agitating (and gross) than having your bare feet slosh around in those puddles with every step! Sandals allow the excess water to drain. As Angie said about Hong Kong and Singapore, my feet will get soaked no matter what, so I prefer an option that allows the water to escape rather than get trapped inside, drowning my poor feet.

I would LOVE to get my mitts on those adorable fauvist rain boots in the YLF store though! But they probably will be too hot once summer comes around. I still have not quite figured out footwear for hot-but-rainy days.

Julie, in Seattle we experience a very similar climate to you in the UK. It has to be really hot for me to wear sandals which is why I don't have many pairs and really don't need anymore. I will opt for a closed toe shoe like what you have linked to a hundred times over before I opt for a sandal - not only because it rains, but because my feet get cold.

That being said, living in very hot and humid rainy Summer climates like HK and Singapore makes sandals a must - for men too. Torrential rains in those countries soak your feet no matter what you wear, but they dry off fast in the air conditioning.

Get the shoes! They are perfect for you if they're comfortable.

I had to read this thread because of the fascinating subject matter. I can't imagine having a summer like that, or not having a need for sandals.
Those are cute shoes.

Thanks for your opinions,

Fi, I also had to throw out rain damaged flats from the summer.

Theresa, the best way to describe a British summer would be mild and damp!

Last summer was a shocker wasn't it! I did a bit of a wardrobe clear out and had to throw away both of my flats that I wore to death last year because it was too wet for sandals.

I really like these Julie, they are very pretty! I wish that slingbacks worked for me (they tend to slip off). Both the silver and the red would work really well.

WOW I really like those shoes...

We don't usually have rainy weather at any time of the year, but we're having an unusually wet summer at the moment, and these would be perfect for stepping over puddles and still keeping toes warm, clean & dry. Of course, I have no idea what Summer in the UK is like!

And they look really nice and comfy! I'd love a red pair

I wore my sandals very very little last summer and I'm thinking long and hard about if I really need another pair. The weather is so changeable here that even on a scorching hot day there is still the possibility of a shower.

I have seen these and wonder if they would work as a sandal alternative in the UK?
http://www.clarks.co.uk/find/d.....s-20339464

I do not like hot feet but at the same time I despise wearing sandals in the rain. Although my lifestyle is quite casual I enjoy wearing a heel and having an element of polish to my look. Do you think they are too dressy?

I would be grateful for any opinions

Many thanks in advance
