Lyn, I hope I can write this post of yours word for word one day.
I am a long way behind you on my style trek(journey sounds too easy). I am at the perking up my wardrobe stage and have been buying items out of my comfort zone like pointy toed booties and a moto. I don't feel confident yet to spend big dollars on anything.
I can't tell you how reassuring it is to read of your progress. I am inspired too, by your discipline; I have begun recording my outfits and the idea of analysing as you have done appeals to me.
So thanks for an excellent post.

Good Morning, my YLFabulous Ladies:-) Thanx for all the kind comments.

Suz, Firecracker, Caro: Doing my notes on my computer felt restrictive(and owerhelming) in many ways to me so I went back to the old (and odd:-)) noteebooking, but wathever works for you is good, too:-))

Rachy: don't dispare, we'll eventually get there, all:-))

Deb: that's almost frightening me at this moment...the fluidity of the ongoing process:-))

Ingunn: Yes, I can see you are also focusing on one thing at a time and it really shows paying off.

I liked reading about your process, Lyn. I always enjoy your outfit posts, and so it's fun to see some of what has gone into producing those great looks. You've given me some ideas; like maybe I don't have to keep track of everything on the computer. I like old-fashioned journal-style notebooks for some things; they seem to fuel my creativity in different ways than the computer.

I'm so impressed and inspired by reading your thoughts and seeing your notes. You have obviously been persistent, and now it's paying off. You write that you focused on one thing at the time, and I think this is necessary. It is to me, anyway! Thank you for sharing.

Lyn, thank you so much for sharing your thought process -- and your notebooks! I have been doing much the same...writing things down -- cross-referencing, asking myself hard questions about what I actually wear. As Deborah says, the process is fluid (so never-ending) and yet there is a distinct difference when one finds the basic core elements, I think -- for you, your day dresses and pencils, along with jackets, I suspect. YLF is really amazing at helping us get to a happy wardrobe space.

Lyn, I love your process and it does take time. I think one of the challenges we face is the fact that our style evolves meaning the process is ongoing and fluid. What I have seen of your wardrobe is truly fab and suits you beautifully:)

Omg, Lyn - those notes! I'm almost ashamed to say that I'm evolving my wardrobe in a completely haphazard way.

Good post! I think you have done very well to analyze and curate your wardrobe. What I notice from your posts is how beautifully your clothes fit, and how well you mix and match your items. I love your record keeping too! I bet you are the only one who can make sense of it

Loved all those "navel musings" posts lately so I wanted to give my 2 cents on the thema, too.

After almost 5 years on YLF I only felt this year that I have curated my basics. It took me so much, not not only due to limited budget or current (un)availability of some items, but most of all about non-awareness.

I so can remember! For perking up my wardrobe, I first started with buying some nice/more unconventional accesoiries for pennies and splurgeing on some replacement basic outerwear (so low and high end together:-)). That was my way of having a bit of fun with fashion and style at a low budget and relatively low availability of fashionable clothing items(had to travel a lot for my clothes:-)).
Then continued with a mishmash of purchasing for other sections in my wardrobe: tops, skirts, dresses, shoes and bags. But I can so well recall the moment when my light bulb went on for pencils...then for day dresses.
Always focused pretty much on one at a time.

I kept account of my outfits for all these 5 years (taking picties help sooo much!!!) but I wasn't really aware about what I need (for my lifestyle and my style goals) until last 2 years- when strictly wrote down all my purchases in a calendar, per categories, shops, cloting item and all.
Then I found myself analyzing these lists: per season, per brand, per budget, per colour, per capsule, and so on...you name it.
It helped a lot to see all things in retrospective comming all together.

I started to feel like I have all I need and that it all goes with (almost) everything in my closet, only at the end of last year year, and still have some holes!!
BUT, these holes are only the icing on the cake I say. It was a big work to reach here- now it comes the real fun(replacing basics again, anyone?:-))

Oh, and I came back to edit, that's why I no more can imagine my life without YLF:-)).
