Khris,
I can totally relate- you are looking fab even if you do not feel that way. I think comfort and grace are what we need when we are really down. Showers, clean comfy lounge clothes. Anything that cheers you up or makes you feel good. Sometimes that means dressing up or not. Thoughts and prayers for all with heath issues. I have been there.

Just echoing what others have said: I'm sorry to hear some of you are having a rough time of it right now! Ongoing health issues can be so draining, and it can be hard to really feel like things will ever improve. I agree with what the Queen Mum said about trying not to be so hard on ourselves when we just want to wear jeans and a top--sometimes life events and stress do manage to trump stylishness/creativeness, and this is to be expected!

I like that this site serves as a source of community for people; it's a very warm, supportive place.

I am sorry to hear of all the women with chronic medical problems. It is something you never get used to but that hopefully you can find peace and live with.

Queen Mum, you make a very good point ! I would say that it makes total sense when one is rational and has some perspective. Unfortunately, there are days when one doesn't have the energy for that and I think that is ok. Sometimes we are just emotionally dampened and it takes more than putting on good clothes. It takes energy to brush your teeth and wash you hair and put on some make-up, and face the world without dark cirlces, etc.

I am a big believer that one needs to adjust self-expection. If you can't muster it one day, it is ok. Because you will have it again, hopefully tomorrow, and you can adjust your expectations accordingly. I hope that makes sense.

Please don't take what I say here as an insult or criticism because it isn't... , but isn't the whole idea of hanging out here to build a great workable wardrobe? If all we have in our closets to choose from are great fitting flattering clothing, what changes because we are feeling down? True, we might not be in the mood to put together the most creative of ensembles, but we should still have some great basics to get us through the down times.
And yes, those 5 pounds can really put a damper on things, but we should have a few things that can accomodate those extra little ounces :-)
Perhaps we (myself included) are putting too much emphasis on always being creative and then when we dont' have the energy for that we feel badly. We don't need to feel bad about jeans and a great fitting top.
Just some thoughts....

Khris, I just have to jump in here and add some support.

Firstly, I think you really have a natural flair for dressing with style and flair. Please remember when feeling down that there is still a pretty good likelihood that your "bad" day dressing-wise would probably equate to a pretty good day for me. In other words, please don't judge yourself harshly!

By the same token, I would like to say that for me, my experience has been that sometimes when I feel my absolute most rotten, dressing in something nice (but still comfortable) and doing my hair/putting makeup on actually lifts my spirits (providing of course, I have the energy or capacity to do so). I hope the meds and your body come to a happy and healthy compromise very soon!

Chewy - I just wanted to lend my support as well. I can relate to how you are feeling right now. I am going through a six month treatment for a chronic condition. It is not life threatening, however, I have been trying to find a cure for the past 16 years, I've been to different doctors, treatments etc. This is the last resort, pretty much!

The first weeks were a nightmare, I lost weight ( not a good thing for me ) and had a just an overall ill feeling that I could not shake.
I am not yet out of the woods, I'm still dealing with several side effects, but I feel the dark cloud is finally beginning to dissipate.

To all of you - I really hope things improve soon!

You look fabulous !! I am sorry to hear that you are not feeling well. I would love a check in thread.

I was going to wait until mid November to post my first WIW....because it will be a year for me since I found this great site. It was also the week that I came home from the hospital after spending 11 days in ICU after an artery in my stomach burst and I needed 14 blood transfusions. I almost bled to death and it took almost 3 days to get the bleeding under control. I also started new meds and I gained about 60 pounds. 30 lbs was weight I lost while on a feeding tube and the other 30 were bonus points !!!! For the first time in my life I was larger than a size 4, like an 8-10. I still have some bad days ( I am still dealing with what led to the problem).

My point in all this is that I sooooooo understand. Hang in there. You have gotten through losing so much weight, that took so much courage. You probably will acclimate, if you don't, ask you doctor if there can be a dosage change or something. Be compassionate with yourself.

In the meantime, I will start posting very soon. Forget Nov. I will do it in solidarity with you and with SYC.

Here's lookin' at you and soon lookin' at me ( GULP ) ! But beware, you are much better at dressing than I am, so my pics may actually depress you. Just sayin'.

Khris, I am so in. I practically burst into tears when I read this idea just because it's so timely for me. I've been feeling low and just not fab mentally of late, which of course translates to physical attributes too. I tend to use fashion as a crutch to support me at times like this, so this is right up my alley. Count me in!

I would be interested in participating depending on what we were doing-- support would be great, but I am not sure I could take part in many challenges between having a bit of a dismal closet and low energy. Until I am able to order some more clothes I literally have t's and jeans to wear-- which is fine, but not really worth anyone looking at pics of.

I am sorry to hear that so many of you are dealing with medical problems or weight gain or just the blahs. I laughed because some of your medication symptoms are symptoms of my condition, I so sympathize! I have been having a hard time this week since my accident-- the extra stress and the injuries healing means that I am exhausted, in pain, and have been blacking out more than usual. Fall and winter are just hard seasons for me in general, especially with cold and flu season. I'm immune deficient so it is a battle staying healthy-- especially at a college or workplace where higher ups encourage people to come in sick. A cold can last a really long time for me and completely knock me out where I can't even stand up. I have been coming to YLF a lot when I am not feeling up to doing other stuff and it cheers me up.

It is hard because my illness does play into fashion choices, but when I have tried to explain things on other fashion forums I felt like people didn't think I was "trying" hard enough. After all, if they could iron, I could iron if I really cared enough. At the same time, self-esteem and how you feel about the way you look can play into down feelings and feelings of depression related to coping with an illness (or circumstances). However, I have generally been poo-pooed when I have shared these concerns with forum members from chronic illness support groups.

So, I am in!

Khris, I'm so sorry that you aren't feeling well. I hope that your body adjusts to the new medication soon and that the side effects will be less bothersome - if they don't vanish altogether.

I'm with you. I let my weight get way up this year and a lot of items in my closet don't fit. It's very demotivating. I'm posting WIWs and taking near-daily photos again to try to psych myself up into dressing in the clothes I love that DO fit right now. Plus, I'm at the tail end of a really terrible respiratory cold that I've had for nearly 3 weeks. It's nowhere near what you're dealing with, but I am so sick of having coughing fits all the time!

I'll be offline for about a week or so starting in a few days, but when I'm back on the forum I'd love to jump in.

Ugh, I am totally with you. Still dealing with mysterious health ailment that the doctors haven't figured out yet, and feeling blah off and on, not to mention being a few pounds heavier than I want.

When I was really struggling with my depression, I started to make an effort to get dressed by x o'clock (usually 10am as a hard cutoff). At that time I took pictures for my blog and posted them, mostly as a reason to get myself together than anything else. I think posting them here, if people feel like it, could be a good motivator. Otherwise, just a daily check-in, maybe?

This morning I had a hard time getting dressed because I had no good ideas - sometimes I put together a week's worth of outfits beforehand on the weekend, or at least pull out some key items that I'm interested in wearing, but I hadn't done that. Doing something like that might be helpful to people - when you're feeling high-energy pick out your outfits ahead of time, so they're ready when you need them.

I know I won't be happy until I can lose this extra weight! But that's just something I have to work on. I don't feel like going out of my comfort zone, which makes me feel boring and sad-sack-like.

Hubby and I are both about to start a new semester (we are both students - he's in under-grad working part time, and I'm a grad student going to school at night and working during the day). Soon I will be so busy I won't have time to feel happy or sad, or anything at all! Sometimes I wonder if having downtime is my downfall...

great outfit Khris...and it is perfectly acceptable to take off the "fruff" when you get home to be comfy.

Awww, Khris, so sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well. Hugs to you and to all the others who are feeling not so fab.You look wonderful, as always, in the above outfit, but be sure to pamper yourself. Wear comfort clothes if that is what makes you feel better and know that you'll find support here.

Big hug, hope you adjust and are feeling better soon. I think we all have times that make it difficult to committ to looking fabulous every day. My problem right now is I can't get to my closet...we are remodeling our bathroom and you have to walk thru there to get in.

Just be comfortable and let us know how things are going. I'm up for a challenge, count me in!

oh.. You are fab, as always! Even the hair is gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When I'm sick, I go for a plain jeans and a feminine cotton comfy blouse and I find that a bit of make up always help!

Thanks for all of the support ladies. I got dressed today in real clothes. I'm going to try driving. The side effects seem to be worse a couple hours after taking the meds, so I am feeling ok right now. When I get home, I can remove the shoes/jewelery/vest and be as comfy as I would in loungewear.

Khris, sorry to hear that you have been having issues. I'm just getting over the flu so I feel like I'm living inside a Kleenex box lately. I've gained a ton of weight since the beginning of this year and it's been depressing not being able to wear all the fabulous things I bought for myself last year. I am at my all time non-pregnancy weight right now and I'm definitely feeling pretty blah (hence no WIW posts either). I've been focusing on picking up some pretty accessories to add some spark to my outfits. Oh and getting my butt back to the gym!

Sorry to hear you aren't feeling up to par, Khris. Whatever you're up for, count me in. In the meantime, I'll try to think of a challenge (but don't hold your breath.)
