Oh, I always found that peonies don’t like to be replanted — we tried with one that was in our yard from the previous owners, and it didn’t survive. I do love them — I might buy one and plant it in an empty space in our front yard.

Here we have hydrangeas, oak leaf hydrangeas, daylilies, and potted geraniums all blooming nicely. Hosta blooms are mostly faded or gone.

Our vegetables are coming along nicely. All of the pepper and tomato plants have fruit, and one tomato plant is starting to redden. Carrots seem to be doing ok, and squash has a couple of fruits.

We built a couple of new seating areas in our back yard, something we have meant to do for years. Just some gravel and stepping stones, and chairs and a fire pit we brought home from the ranch. It’s turned into quite an oasis out there! The birds absolutely love the “mountain stream” my husband built with an existing drainage area and some pipes and a buried water tank and pump.

Beautiful flowers everyone! My lily's are still going crazy. I had a bumper crop of roses but this pitiful bunch is all that is left at the moment and my beautiful pink peonies are long gone and I never got a pic. My green thumb is lacking and my stuff tends to be more wild and unkempt than pristine and manicured lol. Still lovely and enjoyable though.

Gorgeous peonies murph11, and wowsa your garden is a delight Carla!
Beautiful balcony hydrangeas Anchie, love that vibrant blue.
Siberian iris and dianthus (pinks) is going like gangbusters in our garden. Rozanne geranium and Shasta daisies getting set to take off. As much as I enjoy the calvacade of bloom, it does make me a wee bit wistful that summer is indeed marching on.

Minaminu, if your peony is not blooming the eyes might be planted too deep. I’d be tempted to dig it up at the end of August say and replant. The eyes should be in no deeper than 2 inches below the surface of the soil.

RunCarla, your garden is beautiful our roses are blooming up a storm this year and Japanese beetles are still not munching them. The beetles are most prominent on grape vines and Boston ivy on a fence but also like everything...roses, rose of Sharon, butterfly bush, even chives and marigolds. So far they have not been found on penstemon, columbines, tomatoes, or sunflowers. However, the squirrels take big bites out of tomatoes and climb sun flowers to get to the flowers and immature seeds.
We have no peonies but I have noticed that they are late this year. Some neighbors have some lovely ones but have to cover them all winter. The snow is hard on plants, including penstemon and some of ours look like rabbits or squirrels sit in the middle, but DH tells me it was snow that sat on them. Hardy geranium is in full bloom and will need to be dead headed soon.

@ cjh - I don’t know! When I flip the leaves over there’s no evidence of any pests, and none of my other roses seem to be bothered. I’m on the lookout for Japanese Beatles. They were a problem last year, but so far I’m not seeing any of them either.

When I do have problems with pests, I use a soap and water solution or the ‘Armstrong’ method, and pick them off.

Our abundance of peonies from 2 bushes is just luck! Both were potted grocery store purchases years ago and we just stuck them in the ground. We hack them off at the end of the season when the foliage dies, and the up the come each spring.

We were sent a floral arrangement years ago that had hostas leaves lining the inside of the vase, and I love the effect. Cutting these large blossoms just long enough to rest against the rim and building from there makes for an easy and impressive bouquet.

RL, our tomatoes and green beans are longing for some sunshine and warmth!

Bijou, send me some of your blood oranges! What a treat to have them in your garden!

Murph, the peonies are gorgeous. I like how you used the leaves below. Are they inside a glass vase?

Carla, beautiful garden you have there! On picture 3, what do you think has taken big bites out of the rise bush leaves? Thanks for your expertise!

Oh and the fennel that my mom and the gardener hacked up is green again, which is nice.
