Shiny, I don't watch Jon and Kate either, but I know what you're talking about, and can commiserate. A couple of days ago Brendan said I looked kind of like her because of my hair, and I gave him the Evil Eye. He then decided I didn't look anything like her (at least that's what he told me).

Shiny, I LOVE that Elisha Cuthbert cut for you! I think that would be so cute with your face shape. I think that's my favorite, although plenty of cute ones were posted, I think that would look incredible on you.

Ooh, that's cute!

So I'm thinking my instincts are on the mark - to go back to how my hair was last summer, right before Paris. Which was the first cut this current stylist ever gave me. And I loved it. Or some subtle variation on that.

As for Kate... it doesn't seem the *kids* are getting a dime...

Oh no! That’s not the link! Sorry!

Go to the first picture on this site. That’s’ why I made a reference to Winter hats and you:

(Kate and Jon make $75 000 an episode. Quite the trust fund I guess).

I like Elisha’s choppy cut and Posh’s cut best so far.

Angie, Kate of Jon and Kate + 8. I don't even watch the show (have never seen it) but I'm riveted by the headlines lately. I do not have nice things to say about a couple who would put their kids through the limelight like they have... but I don't want to digress again!! I think this is bugging me because I ran into a friend recently who made a remark that I looked just like Kate, and I cringed. :-(

Red head: well, my sister and my mom are/were both red-heads, so it's not surprising! It is true I have a lot of red undertones in my natural haircolor. BUT - some of those older, pixie cuts were actually colored, and not natural. Unfortunately, I don't remember which is which, since it's been so long. I went through a period when my hair was short where I would get my hair colored (single process) just slightly darker, sometimes with red. There was one instance when the red turned out more orange - that was awful! I cried and cried...

The first link: my hair just doesn't grow that long. Truth be told, it looks awful when it starts approaching anywhere near shoulder length.

Second link: I love that. It's really cute. I love the color as well. I'm not sure my forehead is quite as nice though. This cut would look adorable on Ana!

Third link: that's Posh, isn't it? That is close to what I've had in the recent past, and I do love that cut.

Fourth link: this is actually what I have now, believe it or not. Maybe I am simply styling it the wrong way? My hairdresser did blow it dry more towards my face, and I'm apt to try to want it to go back and away instead. The color is gorgeous!

Lots to think about....

Shiny, Kate who? And also, I just noticed you're actually a redhead! Quite auburn.

I like Shiny’s do best straight. I guess I was picturing a more layered fringe.

Shiny with her Winter hats which she wears a lot:

San, no, not really against it, as long as it can be cut in a way that it would behave most days. Right now this cut doesn't work with curls unless I put it back in a headband (although I'm thinking flat-ironing one section in the front may work - I may try that tomorrow).

Also I would need a cut that can be straightened if i want. Because I don't like to go out in wet hair, but using a diffuser has never worked for me (adds frizz). Most days I have plenty of time to air dry it, but for those days I don't, I'd want options.

And I'd want to keep the super-blond highlights: they seem to work better with my curls than a darker blond does, for some reason. I'm not sure why!

Thanks ... I am digesting it all... and doing some surfing of my own!

Laura, Neatnic - I don't think my hair would lay like that one. It's the cowlicks but also my hair is way more wavy/curly. I really have to air-dry it and take a few photos so you can all see what I'm dealing with! I posted one awhile back, from last summer, but it was back in a headband so you can't see it so well. I swear my hair is getting MORE curly with age. I am sure it was never that curly in my youth - otherwise I'd never have spent years perming it!

My hair will wave - not curl - if it has first been blown dry and flat ironed perfectly straight, but then I go outside and get stuck without an umbrella in a light misting rain. LOL. Then I get all kinds of interesting, controlled wave. But that's hard to achieve on a daily basis without mother nature's help!

Shiny, your face looks great in the short, angled styles! That's why I like your current cut.

What if you tried a one of these (in blond, of course!)? Some are very similar to what you have:

http://tinyurl.com/by4hc5

http://tinyurl.com/cgumu7

You can also do a search based on your length and style preferences: http://mopshots.com/search/

I loved using mopshots to help show my stylist what kind of look I was after. I hope it helps!

Hi Shiny,

I'm an infrequent poster but daily reader of Angie's blog and the forums. I love your hair the way it is now, but if you want a change, would a graduated sideswept bang work, something like this (see the "before" image)?

http://www.hairthursday.com/blond/volume-36.htm

Or would that still be too short for you in the front?

BTW -- I don't think you look like Kate in your favorite haircut! Especially now that she has the spiky thing going on in the back -- I think that's the cut that will be associated with her from now on!

Here are some past pics...

http://s386.photobucket.com/al.....at43/hair/
pw ylf2008

The super-short, darker pixie cut I don't want to do. I don't care for my hair that short, and my DH does not like it either. When I cut my hair shorter two years ago, he was worried I'd go back to something that short and he just hates it on me. I think a pixie cut will work great when I go gray, but not now.

Meanwhile, this
http://s386.photobucket.com/al.....G_0027.jpg
and this
http://s386.photobucket.com/al.....G_0031.jpg
were actually very very much like the second to last cut you posted, Amy. It may just be me, and the fact I wore this in the 90s, but I feel it is a dated style. And you can see my hair waves up a lot at that length. Reminds me of my mom's hair. :-(

The other two pics (where I am blond) are more recent, from last summer/fall. This is my favorite cut ever, and what I wanted last time. It's still long in the front bang, but thinned out/shorter on the sides. The problem with this cut is I really don't want people thinking I am a fan of Kate. (I really hate that woman, but I digress....)

Also noticing as I look through the pics that the sweep bang isn't so bad. I just have horrible memories of bad hair days - especially in the humidity. When it would behave, it did look good though, huh?

More suggestions?

Thanks Amy! Those ARE short.

I have had the last hairstyle, believe it or not!! That was back in college. I don't have a picture. I didn't care for it...

I have also had the second to last one, for several years, in fact. That was when my teens were babies. I even had it darker back then. And I once tried red but it turned orange. :-(

The sienna miller one is closer to what I was thinking, and is closer to what I had last year.

The sharon stone one is an interesting thought. Hmmm. And the first pic is really cute! Hmmm....

Unfortunately, I don't do bangs very well. I have had this same cut now, with long side swept bangs cut in, and the bangs just don't want to lay right, even with all the flat ironing and hair product in the world. I have massive cowlicks in my bangs, I'm afraid! So I need them long for the heaviness to lay right.

But I know what you mean about it looking heavy. I think there's a few reasons - one is the color. That's where he put the blondest streak in it. Two is the angling - I think if it had been shorter in the back then it would be thinned out a lot more and it would just be this one inch piece in the front that was long (and tuckable behind the ear). Am I describing that well? (I may have a pic to demonstrate... let me scrounge one up... may have to post later since I need to get moving this morning).

My hair is very fine, and there's actually not a lot of it either. It just looks like there is. I get lots of volume when I go short. Also I have a ton of curl. These past few days, being sick, I allowed my hair to air dry each day and I can't even say it's "wavy" because it's more like CURLY! Between a wave and a true curl. I wish I'd taken a photo of it yesterday to show - there is a part of me that is tempted to wear it curly for the rest of the summer. It would still need some additional thinning/razoring/layering in that clumpy heavy area you are talking about, because when it goes curly, that part looks funny (unless I put it in a headband).

I usually don't prefer my hair curly for a few reasons, and one is that the light doesn't reflect the hair in the same way as it does when it's flat. But, these past few days I realized that the highlights he's put in actually work really well with curly (maybe even better than with it flat - I think it's TOO blond at the moment - I really don't like obvious roots and I have them now).

Angie, which Alecia Cuthbert cut? I googled and got images with many different styles. (I don't even know who she is).

I LOVE the Sienna Miller haircut for you, Shiny! The Sharon Stone one might have some possibilities, too.

Of course, the last one is killer! Kudos to Amy for finding that one!

A continuation from your outfit thread...

I love your hair. I think you look great, Shiny. You asked for some suggestions on cuts. I'm no expert and this is just my opinion but I think the main thing I'm seeing is that your hair may need to be thinned out/razored/layered because it's so thick on that one side. I'm not sure how much effort you like to put into your hair, but a flat iron may be the ticket to a sleeker look.

Here's some pics to ponder...
This one is simple and elegant with a shorter bang...
http://www.aahairstyle.com/wp-.....Tips-2.jpg

this is more pixie, and depending on how much product you put in it, it could be all over the place in a fun, bedhead way...
http://www.aaa-fashion.com/wp-.....tyles1.jpg

This one would be cute too!
http://hairbrained.files.wordp.....a-imdb.png

Super funky (you get the spikes from a flat iron and pomade):
http://www.123-hairstyles-idea.....les071.jpg

Ultimately this one suits you best...
