You are SO CUTE San. Duran Duran is an 80's British pop band. “THE” 80's pop band I might add. I’ve seen them in concert 3 times and Greg got me an urban sling bag at one of their concerts. It’s an irreplaceable treasure.

Ladies, it's been crazy at work the last few days... I'm hoping it will result in a fun opportunity for outfut input. I've been really beat and haven't had the energy to leave all the comments that I would have liked, though I'm keeping up on reading the posts.

But the Duran Duran mention helped me find a little energy. Angie, I'm super envious of the Duran Duran satchel. That's SO awesome.

My pleasure Shiny and I like your bag plan! Some of my black bags do not come out to play often. They were gifts and not bags I’d have necessarily purchased in black myself. I sport all colours fairly equally though. I do not black-rut!

Ha Muequita! Lovely story. My love for bags started at an early age too.

Ana, we have a small walk in wardrobe because we live in a small house (by American standards). But it’s modern and very practical. Most of my bags stand like soldiers side-by-side on shelves above the hanging area. They are easy to see and reach. I have stuffers to keep them neat and upright (my stuffers are just like yours). I do not keep my bags in their saks (some bags come with protective saks). My soft, small clutches are in a wire tray drawer (in the wardrobe too). Also completely visible. I like your see through makeup bag idea!

Tanya, a baguette bag is a long, narrow sausage-like satchel.

http://images.google.com/imgre.....n%26sa%3DN

I don’t carry clutches unless I’m going out.

Julia, I desperately want to replace my red bag too. It’s hard finding the right red with minimal silver hardware. I’m not attached to cracked red patent, but the rest of the bag has to be right. But I’ll give you a shout once I have mine. I’m surprised you didn’t come back with one from HK!

Sure Nicole. My vintage pearl clutch was bought to go with a black 1920’s flapper dress and it comes out when I wear that dress which is once a year. My straw bag comes out in hot weather only. My Chanel bag hardly comes out and I like to preserve my Duran Duran bag. Of course I have my favourites that get loads of mileage.

Good strategy Patience. Grow your matte leather bag collection too.

Thanks so much Angie!

I am exhausted right now - so I'm sure when I've had some rest I'll revisit this thread to study your list closer, and comment in more detail. I hope I make sense with what I do type .... ;-)

I did a major cull last year. I had gone a bit (a LOT) handbag crazy (mostly inexpensive Target and Marshall's finds), and was getting tired of swapping things out.

Love Ana's suggestion and it's funny because I mentioned that I needed some sort of "system" like this to my DH just the other night, when we dashed out but returned not once but TWICE to the house because I'd forgotten something when swapping out bags....

Anyway, I culled because this is basically all the space I have for bags:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/2.....518454607/

(These cabinets used to contain the kids' bookbags... back when they were younger and their bookbags not so unwieldy.).

It's not the best place to keep them, I know. It's kind of a jumble. In one cabinet I have my "occasional" bags - the other contains my more every-day bags. All the expensive bags are in felt bags to keep them from getting scratched up. But, we are in a tiny space and if anything it's my DH who deserves a custom-built closet, not me, since I've kicked his stuff into the guest bedroom, which has the only circa 1905 closet left after the renovation. They hung clothes on pegs back then. :-(

I did like your back-of-the door organizer idea - but I have already made use of every door in our house for shoes and scarves and gloves and other things. No room for purses!

Anyway, I want less, but higher quality, and items that will be workhorses and get a lot of use.

But like you, I have a few purses I will never let go because of sentimental reasons. I went through a phase when I would buy a new bag to commemorate and remember any trip we went on.

So for example, I have a gorgeous satchel wicker bag from San Fran (that unfortunately scratches my skin up - like it has teeth!!!), the pink pearl shell bag is from MD, and I have a vintage needlepoint bag found at the flea market in Vienna. These rarely see use - but I can't bear to let them go. :-(

I note that you have quite a lot of black bags!! I only have one, and it's okay but nothing special. Liz Claiborne (I think). Patent - I don't know if you would call it cracked or not - you saw it in one of my recent photos. I've gotten spoiled - I don't necessarily need a designer label, but I do appreciate the feel of quality, sumptious leather and quality zippers and liners.

I'm chuckling at your 'handbag horse' phrase, Angie! I am one too and have been so since I was a little girl! Every time my father took us shopping, I would always beg him for a different color purse. He always told me to get the purse as long as I carried it, but I was so young that I would run around the stores and play and leave poor dad to hold it for me. I have tons of pictures back home with me and all this brightly colored purses. The first ones are of me when I was probably 4 yrs old ?? A true handbag horse at heart...

Thank you, Angie for sharing your list. I've definitely been obsessed about bags lately as you know. I'm curious about your take on clutches too. I've been finding that a lot of the styles I like end up being clutches. They don't feel very practical for day use, but I bought a yellow BR one this spring and it has seen a lot of day use. It's big enough for the basics and it just looks really good with skirts and dresses, I think. I keep thinking about getting a larger yellow tote, but then I think I don't really need it.

The other thing that keeps throwing me off these days is patent vs. matte. Between shoes, belts and bags, I have to be careful to not go overboard on patent and grow my matte leather collection as well.

Ana, the Kenneth Cole outlet in Round Rock had some new cracked bright red patent bags I saw the other day. I was definitely tempted but decided I don't need another red bag. I did fall for a BCBG white patent satchel that was on sale. The outlet does seem like a great place for finding better end bags on discount.

I've lately got my eye on a matte ivory Cole Haan bag as well as that purple patent Kooba bag which is a splurge. But at this point I need to rein myself in. The whole process has definitely been about determining my bag style.

I have two questions: what type of shape is baguette ( a link to one would be very useful) and is it easy to carry clutches in occasions other than going out at night? Thanks!

Hooray, this is really interesting Angie! It's nice to know that Rome wasn't built in a day for you either. I think shoes and handbags are probably my biggest opportunity, so I am going to start working on those areas (but I always want to buy tops instead, hee hee). Reading this has helped me get motivated, thank you!

As a side question--how do you store your bags, exactly? I have plastic shopping bags that I've stuffed with tissue paper (the kind J. Crew and AT wrap your purchases in), and I tie those off and put them in the handbags so that they will sit upright and not get creases. It's okay, but do you have a different way of storing yours that won't make creases in the bags, but doesn't take up as much room? Just curious.

Also, I have to carry more stuff in my bags since I'm sort of marooned on campus all day. Switching bags was really a chore, but then I got a couple of those clear makeup bags, and I put all my stuff in those. That way it's easy to pull the clear makeup bag out and put it into a different bag (keeps the inside of the bag nice as well). Plus, since it's clear, it's not hard to find what I need.

I’m indulging Shiny’s request - a list of my handbag inventory.

So here’s a wee bit of background info before you look at my list:

o	Remember that I use to be a fashion buyer and was therefore gifted with the odd designer handbag by manufacturers from time to time.
o	It has taken years and years to build up my collection.
o	I swap my handbags daily. It’s easy because I don’t carry a lot in them and it takes two ticks.
o	I’m a handbag horse. I can’t always have fun with shoes, but I can have loads of fun with bags. Hence the long list.

Designer:

1.	Chanel – classic black quilted gold-chain shoulder bag
2.	Prada – black biker-studded baguette
3.	Kate Spade – oversized red cracked patent clutch
4.	Michael Kors – emerald green satchel
5.	Charles David – cobalt blue, patent snakeskin tote
6.	DKNY – black biker and zipper sling bag (for travelling in countries with pick pockets)
7.	Jill Scott – black and cream cow print round handle bag

Better end brands:

1.	Black cracked patent doctors bag (the one you see in the Ann Fontaine blog post)
2.	Cream cracked patent flat tote
3.	Red cracked patent flat satchel ( it needs to be replaced asap as it’s falling apart)
4.	Yellow matte leather tote
5.	snakeskin clutch
6.	Zebra and black patent clutch ( printed cow hide – not real zebra)
7.	Black and pearl vintage tear drop evening bag
8.	Yellow matte leather clutch
9.	Black ruffle clutch (whole bag is zips and leather ruffles)
10.	Straw basket bag
11.	Pukka red, blue and white urban Duran Duran sling bag that I got at their concert way back when. (It comes out occasionally because I don’t want to damage it. It’s irreplaceable.)
12.	Green satchel

Cheap as chips bags:

1.	Yellow oversized sling bag
2.	Lime green “fish scales” bag with bamboo handles
3.	Navy and cobalt bowling bag
4.	Turquoise clutch

Decorative handbags:

1.	Cream canvas tote with brightly coloured Mary Quant flowers embroidered all over it. It makes me happy when I look at it, but I don’t use it
2.	A Chinese beaded evening bag that belonged to my late Mother

Apart from the decorative handbags, each handbag is in circulation – no orphans. They are packed on shelves in my walk in wardrobe so that I can pick, choose and remember them daily. I am attached to each and every one!
