I love closet/organization post and photos! Thank you for sharing. I snapped some photos back when Lisa posted about this, and promptly forgot to post them. Perhaps I'll get to that today!

Thank you ladies (and OMG Angie, I'm humbled:-)) you are all too kind.
Ikea really needs skills AND TIME time to put all the parts together. My DH is an mechanical engineer but when it came to assembling mirror and glass panels on the sliding frame (&adjusting them exactly horizontal and vertical for functionality) he sweared never to buy again:-). It is not the best quality in the world but the mix and match feature or the availability of the same styles for years (so you can expand with new parts anytime) it is really an advantage.
Lisa p. I know what you mean. It is very hard to match to other existing pieces and I would have loved a bigger contrast with my floors (but no white or black) so I settled on this color for the job to be done eventually.
Sterling The hanger with my blazers in 19 is mounted on the side of the closet and does a heavy job. It has to be fixed only on the very top of the furniture so you can take it down any time and have no signs of the fixing. DH mummbled enough for doing it for me, but I won:-). The smaller supports with the circle holes(I have 2x) came from Ikea, too- and are great to hold a few lighter things on hangers when planning outfits or just lazy to put back in:-).

Lyn, I so appreciate this insight, it is so detailed and clear. Fascinating! Ikea is such a good source of storage solutions. 31 and 32 particularly caught my eye.

Well, I am a lover of all things visual. These are fabulous visuals. So easy to understand and comprehend. You are doing a GREAT job of keeping everything organized and corralled. I especially like the jewelry box and whatever that is in number 19.

You have a family and a demanding job - yet you made the time to write this thread. I'm impressed, and in awe of your graciousness. Thank you.

Wow - thank you Lyn, for taking the time to post all of these photos and for writing all that you did. I so appreciate that you were thinking of me! I was eyeing that Malm cabinet/dresser thing too, but it doesn't come in a colour that works in my bedroom. Too bad, because it looks really useful. I am not a fan of displaying jewellery or of having shoes and boots out while not in use.

I like how you've organized your drawers though - very neat and tidy!

Appologies I only came back to you today with the picties of some of my ideas about how to keep my home organised.
1-8 is my entry/main hallway. Shoeboard does not have legs&, it is fixed on the wall at a height that it still accomodates a line of shoes underneath, those of them in curent use. You can also see my how I store my curent bag on the top of it, and I have there a basket which hides my gloves(7) and my DD's impossible to put away stuff(8):-)).In nr 5 you can see where we can sit to put on shoes, and how I also store some home slips underneath. On the side another basket, used to host my DD's school bag or city bags, now she is in college and only weekends at home so there are her winter shawls there, folded.
9-14 is the closet which hides mainly coats, bags scarves and shoes out of seasonal use. I dstore my scarves in plastic bins. Have 5 of them. (eachy season + dressy) so I can easily find what I want. Clutches on the upper shelves, bigger bags underneath clothes, and more shoes on the floor (under the down shelf).
15-35 is our bedroom. I unfortunatelly do not have a walk in closet so I did my best with Ikea furniture, only. Malm series has that brilliant 6-drawer chest with a built-in mirror and felt-lined compartments beneath perfect for storing your jewelry(16-17), and I am in love:-).
Nr 18 is their highest Pax wardrobe which can so accomodate 2 full rods(lower one is for every day tops/shirts, the higher one, which I can reach harder is for dressy). But that's still not enough for my stuff, so I have external extensions on the side (see in 19) for my curent, in the use, blazers and planing outfits or lazy days.
I also have 4 under the bed srawers (nr 21), two on each side of the bed, they slide over castors. There is more(plenty!) out of seasonal stuff there.
Nr 22 shows a wire basket on the floor in the farthest corner of the room, where we put throw the bedcover & the deco pillows for the night.
23-24 shows how I store more in the use jewelry. My cuffs are piled on a glass stick, basicaly an thermometer:-)) Bracelets on the Stockholm candlestick, around the candles. Very clever:-)
25 is a plastic transparent chest of drawers used to hold beach and swimmwear
26-27 shows my tube skirts a in plastic bins, they were carefully chosen to accomodate under the tops on the first rod.
29-30 is DH's part, no comment.
31 shows how I store my undies, 32 are the bras and 33 is a random drawer (these are the knitted toppers I use in winter). I do have a totall of 14 of them full size and 7 half of these.
34 is for how I store my body, feet and hands lotions:-) on my night stand.
Oh, and I still have some stands in my guests room, so I rotate some of the stuff when seasons change.
Blah, it really exhausted me only to write this post but my gideline is that all our stuff needs to have it's speciffic place, only then it will be tidy. I have worked on it for years to make it do for our very own needs, still not finished- it's always under construction:-).
