A few years ago we had a duck nest on the side of our house. I put up a visual barrier (trash bag covered cardboard) for our dogs, so they wouldn’t annoy her. A mama bird, a little brown one, made a nest in a cat carrier on my porch It's a screen porch that got some storm damage, and I was going to repair it, but gonna have to wait now! Danger, indeed! Canada geese are quite aggressive when their offspring are nearby. We’ve had them go after our dogs. This reminds me of killdeer that were nesting on a similar parking strip at a local state park. One parent was trying to fool us with its broken wing ploy.</p> <p>Have you worn your Tilley hat yet? Mine has a medium brim, but my husband’s has a bigger brim. SAIL is a big outdoor sporting goods supplier like MEC or LLBean. (It is where I picked up my new Tilley Hiker Hat!). This is the second year the pair has nested there. The clerk at the store says they successfully hatched and fledged some chicks last year. This year there is a poster asking folks to leave them in peace and some 'DANGER' tape around the meridian where they have made their nest.</p> <p>The male is much less aggressive than he was last year and doesn't rush out at cars and people the way he did last year. DH (a wildlife biologist) speculates that the pair has figured out humans will not harm them, and they are safe from most predators that would normally harass them. They are about 3km as the bird flys - ) from Lake Ontario - the nearest body of water. </p>
