Vicki - That's what I took away from it too. She certainly seem to have no trouble in defining herself/what she loved to wear. I wouldn't wear just dresses either but I'm keen to wear only those things I really love.
Elisa - glad you liked it too Finding the balance between variety & a functional wardrobe is my current goal.

I enjoyed that video. Very interesting to see how people define their style. I have a general sensibility, with a day to day set of needs and fashion moods". Big take away for me is to only keep what you love. Easy to have workable pieces outlive edits. I also share the wish for streamlined dressing, where your options are visible, go to outfits are in place and playing dress up is optional, as it appeals.

Thanks for sharing, Caro.

Caro, thanks, and this was fascinating as she really defined herself in three simply ways. I love the simplicity of it all and while she loves her dresses, and looks terrific in them, I think I would begin to crave some additional colors, besides black and/or silhouettes, like jeans and pants. Still, I find I am moving in this direction more and to let my closet move and breathe so my favorite clothes can enjoy their luscious space.

Yes Caro, I notice clothes but I am not into judging. I am more interested in taking in how other people wear their clothes and using some of their ideas. I am way too messy to wear the same dress for more than a day or 2 but it would be fun to try wearing one color for a few days. I feel like I would need more than 2 pair of shoes though!

Suz - I don't think it has to be about silhouettes. The woman in the video has different silhouettes - but they are all dresses & all black. I can see you in a mostly cranberry, taupe & blue wardrobe :)

Very interesting indeed. I liked that she knows what she likes and wants, and her dresses looked really great on her.

I'd definitely notice if someone was wearing the same outfit. But I would not judge her for it. Horses for courses, as Angie says. In fact, I would probably be intrigued by it.

The most stylish person I have ever known in real life is a man of my acquaintance who has a black and white uniform. Black pants. Black shoes. White shirts (usually). Black shirts for variety (ha ha). Black jacket/ coat, etc. Black sweaters.

His hair is crisp white. He looks amazing in this simple and plain outfit.

If I could come up with something that looked as wonderful and integrated on me, I suspect that some of my craving for variety would fall away. Or perhaps it would be displaced. For instance, maybe I would focus more on statement footwear, and perhaps I would choose a few pieces of statement jewellery (even though at the moment I don't wear much jewellery). Or belts.

There's a part of me that is deeply attracted to this idea. It is a question of determining the right silhouettes. And at the moment, I am still having fun playing with different silhouettes and perhaps don't yet know which ones feel most like "me."

OTOH, maybe trying to choose one or two silhouettes is futile for me. Esp. since having a variety of shapes was primarily what kept me content with my wardrobe this past summer. I don't seem to need variety of colour quite as much as variety of shape. Hmmm. Food for thought. That is similar to the girl in the video, when you stop to think about it.

Thank you for posting this, Caro.

I think you are right Jeanie I, for one, do notice clothes. There is a huge difference between noticing an outfit (repeat or not) & judging the person for wearing it though. I think fabbers are in the noticing group :) I'm working my way to a smallish wardrobe. It isn't all about numbers for me, it's about having enough so I feel I can dress in something I love for every occasion in my life. I really like a uniform too; mine is statement pants, sandals or booties & a top (it's spring here).

She makes an interesting point that most people don't notice your clothes. Of course she hasn't been around us, has she! There are people that do notice clothes I think. I was out with a group the other day and one of the young men said to me "you and I are the only ones with rolled jeans" and we had a laugh! I think like you are saying, Caro, it's about balance. I have gone very minimal with my jewelry and although I don't think I will ever be minimal with my clothes, I like having a uniform to go to when I don't have time to think. My uniform these days is jeans, dressy sweatshirt and loafers.

Now you are talking about my biggest problem, how to find the right balance between enough variety in my outfits & utter confusion in my wardrobe - I've come a long way but the clothes sirens call is still loud & clear :) :)

Caro, thanks so much for thinking of me! I hadn't seen that video (or any of the other ones that popped up with it--uh oh--there goes my productive afternoon). I can see how that works for her, and did you see in the comments that she got most of them at the thrift store? I'm impressed.

I'm not sure being minimal with your wardrobe really keeps you from thinking about clothes/fashion. I have been way too obsessed with it, lol! I recently added some BF jeans (well, actually skinnies two sizes too big) and oh, what a monkey wrench that has thrown into the mix. I need longer shirts that will stay tucked in, a belt, bigger sweater/jacket to fit over the bigger shirt, etc. Just when I thought I had my uniform all figured out.

Astrid - Me neither - I'd certainly need more footwear too.

Classically Casual: That is interesting about your work colleague. Even though you noticed her limited wardrobe it didn't seem repetitive - that is such a fine balance & so individual isn't it?

Laura - I didn't read the comments, different capsules for the different seasons would work & still be very few clothes :)

It certainly wouldn't work for me but I found it interesting. I do agree with her idea that you need to work out how you want to dress first, then go from there.

Wow. Definitely something that would only work in consistently warm climates, that's for sure. In the comments the author mentions she's since moved from FL to KY and that she's had to buy more varied clothes as a result. And the flip the dress backwards thing only works for slim, small-busted ladies.

And two pairs of shoes makes me wince a little - you're supposed to let your shoes air out in-between wearings which would be hard to do, and they would wear out really quickly I bet. 3-4 pairs would be my absolute minimum for 'real life' (i.e. not a temporary travel situation).

On the other hand, she's obviously found out what suits her and what level of stuff she wants around, which is great.

That was very instructive, thanks for posting, Caro. One of the many reasons this would never work for me, is that the black dresses were too similar. I would just rather buy 8 identical ones and call it a day, I think. Also, I personally wouldn't have a maxi dress as one of the precious few.

I once worked with a young professional who wore a very limited wardrobe.
Each one was beautifully accessorized, but they were all different colors. She repeated them each week, but it didn't feel repetitive to me. She went on to fame and fortune, and probably has filled at least one walk-in closet by now, LOL. Horses for courses....

Well, well! This is interesting. I've had a recent panic about packing one suitcase to use for 1-2 months, here she could just chuck in her whole wardrobe. I'm sure I'd get bored with her approach, but there are few occasions I can think of that she wouldn't be aptly dressed. So food for thought...
Thanks for posting :)
