bonnie, I don't think it does, but it must! What a great question. It's a bit like wearing skirts or pants, or black or red. I love the brazen Tress from Raquel Welch (11-14), it makes me feel very potent; I struggle with Kourtney (7). I perceive myself as bland with her on. Sapia (34) makes me experience freedom. Today, I have Talent Mono on (3-4) and she inspires flirtiness together with competence in me. She's flirty from her color and whispy ends; but she's also a high performing unit with a transparent from lace that mimics a frontline so well no one would know it's a wig.

Your question prompts me to be more mindful! Thank you!

What an interesting, comprehensive review of wigs. I really enjoyed reading it. You look wonderful in every photo. Does the wig style and color affect your feelings when you wear it?

Krish, you are gorgeous in your wigs. I have a very slight preference for wig #1, because it reminds me of your natural hair, but really you have a gorgeous selection here and the information is so very useful.

Whilst I cannot see me currently getting a wig, going down that rabbit hole may prove far too tempting and costly for me. However, if for health reasons I needed to, I don't think the loss of hair would be such a blow, simply because you make a wonderful case for the wearing of wigs.

What a great write-up!

I imagine it is tons of fun being able to change up your look so dramatically every day. You have such a variety of colors and cuts. Super fun.

I know a couple of people who wear wigs a lot. They both have thinning hair. When the one gal started wearing a wig, I complimented her on her hair; I thought she had gotten some work done at a salon. She whispered to me that it was a wig. I was so surprised! It's very natural looking (it matches her natural hair color). She wears the same one all the time and will sometimes put extensions in it.

My other wig-wearing friend has some thinning hair but got her wig more for convenience reasons. She sees clients for work, and she has naturally curly hair that can sometimes have a mind of its own. In the past she would have to go to the salon to get a blow-out before meeting an important client, but now she can just put on the wig. She says it's a relief because she doesn't have to worry about her hair.

I know one other gal who does dance performance and uses wigs for that. She says it's so much easier than spending tons of time trying to do a complicated hairstyle. And you can change the wigs up for different numbers.

It would be fun if the style trends changed to be very inclusive of wigs, like back in the 17th and 18th centuries! Guys could wear heels too, like back then.

Then you so much for this thorough description of options and pricing and beautiful modelling of the products! One of my goals this year is to try out some artificial hair and this is so helpful.

For the record, I love the auburn wigs on you. They really emphasize your sea blue eyes.

This is tremendously helpful - I have several friends who are discussing hair options while undergoing cancer treatment. They've noted that it's very helpful to have a couple options that will work post treatment as you don't know how your hair will have changed or how long it might take to grow back. Thanks for sharing your insights and examples!

I had started writing this in reply to another forum member, but I decided to start a new thread for anyonw who is interested in protective hair. I find that the more I go around telling women it's a wig when I receive a compliment, the more the reaction is amazement and curiosity. And it's the right reaction, I think, since yes, it's a whole world in itself and it opens up to so many possibilities! I have been wearing "serious" non-cosplay wigs since last May, and never looked back.

There are two types of synthetic non-cosplay wigs, essentially:

1-A) The more expensive ones (Jon Renau, Ellen Wille, Henry Margu's of this world). They are really well made, they come in a wide range of beautiful colors, have front lace which help dissimulate it by faking the hairline's gradual hair growth, etc. They run for about 300$ - 700 $ a piece (human hair wigs made like that are in the thousands).
They are available at salons and special wig boutiques, but I would encourage you to look them up online, especially if you live in the US, because most companies sell them there and they will be cheaper. Salons take a cut, so the wigs can be 400$ - 900$ or more. That's too much IMO.

Examples of those:
pics 1-2: Jon Renau Alia wig
pics 3-4: Ellen Wille Talent Mono wig
pic 5: Ellen Wille Echo wig
pic 6: Jon Renau Haute wig

1-B) Then .you have more accessible brands, often an offshoot of a more luxurious one, (like cars, example, Kia to Hyunday): Noriko, Gabor, Raquel Welch, etc. Their wigs are more between 150$ and 500$ in general. The cheaper ones will not have lace, but still, they are well made, light and comfortable. They come in a lot of colors, so you are sure to find your match, or one that looks good with your skin tone.

Pics 6-7: René of Paris Kourtney wig in two different lengths
Pics 9-10: Gabor Gala wig
Pics 11-14: Raquel Welch Tress wig

2) Wigs that you find in a local beauty shop. Because of culture, these beautiful, very accessible or even inexpensive units are mostly geared towards a darker toned skin population, so if you have natural dark hair or dark skin, you're in luck. These more pocket friendly pieces run from 40$ to roughly 150$ and possibly even cheaper in the States. But if you are like me, fair and all, your choices are reduced in those stores. Here are good brands to look for: Bobbi Boss, BeShe, Pure and Natural, Bohemian Wig, Dianawig. These are a hit or miss. Some of them scratch as hell. Some of them are heavy, therefore difficult to keep in place. And some of them are light and beautiful and you get the best wear out of them. I was VERY excited to discover recently cheaper wigs for caucasian women! Then extremely bummed out to discover my local beauty shop was discontinuing their purchase, due to low sales. But I think they're wrong! I think people like me will be more and more! You are lucky if you reside inthe States and can order them online. Us Canadians are hit with custom broker fees and other fees that mount up to alomst a third of the price. Here are those brands to look for if your skin is fairer: Mimosa Sensitivity wigs and Escara wigs by Bobbi Boss.
