I think this was a fascinating exercise in terms of your thoughts and opinions and then those of Angie's added on. It is nice that there is agreement and that you are showing a fashion evolution. That has to be extra fun.

My favorites are the white and cobalt jackets.

I agree the navy Vince and the grey moto are not duplicates. I am still not sold on the grey one though. If you have gone through this much effort to purge, why bring in a piece you don't adore? I do think the Vince is a keeper.

Thanks for all the comments! Laura, it really depends on the day and my mood. I'm an emotional dresser. Sometimes I'm just really in the mood to wear a particular topper and I'll plan a whole outfit based on it. Other times I start with another piece -- jeans, shoes, top -- and then pick out pieces that coordinate or complement. My wardrobe is very heavy on blues and greens, so it's really not hard to mix and match in my closet. One of the good things about a generous wardrobe is that I never feel like I'm lacking for the right topper (or handbag, or pair of shoes) for an outfit. It's funny how I usually get dressed starting with one item and building from there.

Janet, your collection is great. You have lots of different colors and cuts. I agree with Carter that adding one of the two new jackets to this collection wouldn't be duplication. I really thought the navy jacket looked awesome on you on the other thread (I didn't have time to comment there, though); I wasn't as excited about the gray one. Since a leather jacket is so important to your signature style, and since eight months out of the year is quite a long time, I personally think that adding the Vince navy jacket to your collection would be a good purchase, as long as you have wardrobe pieces that will already pair with it.

Angie, you are in my brain. Your assessments are EXACTLY in line with how I'm feeling about each of these pieces. This makes me feel pretty good, as it indicates I'm homing in on my style after my first few years with YLF were more about experimentation.

The one additional note I'd have on the old black MK moto is that the white moto took on some of the work that previously fell to the black one. The black jacket's sleeves are just ever so slightly tight at the elbow, so it's not the easiest to layer under. The new hooded MK is much better in that regard.

The periwinkle I posted about a while back, asking for any advice. We thought *maybe* I could make it work in a retro way, but i just don't do much retro. I even wondered if it could be reworked into a vest or something. But it's also kind of stiff and has never softened up the way I wanted it to, so considering all those strikes against it, I should probably just ebay it. :-)

RATE doesn't feel so much like me anymore. I enjoyed it for a while, and I'll still do distressed jeans on occasion, but I think that or a rugged bootie are about as far as I take RATE these days. As you rightly pointed out the other day, I do rock'n'roll in a rather clean way. So yes, as much as it saddens me to say it, the Muubaa doesn't feel totally *me* anymore. That's not to say I couldn't work it into an outfit, but it takes more effort and thought to work with it.

Moving forward, when it comes to jackets, I feel like either 1) more streamlined and sophisticated, or 2) more architectural or avant garde cuts would be more in line with where I am now. Either modern classic with a touch more modern than classic, or arty enough to defy trend. Does that sound right?

This is a helpful exercise for me! Thank you for indulging me. So, armed with this new insight, any thoughts on the navy Vince jacket? Or the grey T&P?

Thank you, Janet. This helps me a GREAT deal. I absolutely recognize your workhorses - because - well - you wear them all the time. LOVE that.

How do you feel about editing this capsule? FWIW, my suggestions are as follows:

Metallic Theory - Holding Zone

Burgundy Muuba - Holding Zone

Michael Kors Black Moto - Holding Zone

Old periwinkle jacket - Pass On

The shorter jacket is excellent with skirts - which you barely wear. Could be fab over dresses, but you seldom wear those in colder weather either. You are a hot weather dress gal (me too, so high five).

Burgundy Distressed Muuba Moto - This looks like Janet a few years ago. Your style has changed. You are polished and refined Rock 'n Roll. Not RATE Rock 'n Roll. Tell me if you disagree though.

Back moto - you barely wear it because you prefer the HL.

Periwinkle looks dated.

Okie dokie. Got to run. xo

I don't see either the grey or the navy as being duplicates in this collection. These all seem very diverse, but I think they grey and navy add elements you won't get from the current collection. Eight months is a long time, and the leather jacket look suits you so well.

On my post yesterday about the tempting navy leather jacket, Angie, you expressed an interest in seeing my full leather jacket collection. It's actually a good exercise to pull them out and evaluate them, and how they relate to my style these days.

So, gulp, for public consumption, here is the collection:

Pic 1 - 1. emerald green perforated Skunkfunk jacket - not a workhorse because the color is rather springy and our springs are not long, but fun and was a bargain a couple of years ago.

Pic 1 - 2. Belstaff olive green long motorcycle jacket. Was a great deal for a great brand. Nice, slightly rugged but fitted jacket and actually gets worn on a motorcycle! :-)

Pic 1 - 3. The darling. IRO cobalt moto. My favorite and a workhorse.

Pic 2 - 1. Theory metallic cropped jacket. Probably 4 years old, good bargain. Not worn much these days but I may experiment with the cropped length a little more this fall. Bracelet sleeves are a little challenging.

Pic 2 - 2. Muubaa RATE jacket. I'm moving a bit away from the RATE style lately but this is still fun.

Pic 2 - 3. Yigal Azrouel convertible cropped burgundy jacket. Fun as a jacket or a best but due to the cropped length, not a workhorse.

Pic 3 -1. Black Helmut Lang. Love this. Lightweight, not outerwear at all, but a near-workhorse.

Pic 3 - 2. The new Michael Kors brown and black hooded jacket. Great rugged addition to the outerwear collection. I predict a workhorse.

Pic 3 - 3. White Truth & Pride from NAS last year. Total Workhorse. Love.

Pic 4 - 1. Michael Kors black moto from about 5 years ago. Basic but got worn a lot in past years for outerwear. Didn't get quite as much wear this past year.

Pic 4 - 2. Old (12 or so years?) periwinkle jacket that I haven't worn in ages but keep in case I figure out how to make it look more current. Love the color.

So...any thoughts or feedback on if any of these should go? Or if there is a place for that grey Truth & Pride or the navy Vince jacket? I know I have a lot, and this is just the leather jackets. There are a couple of blazers, a couple of bombers, denim jackets, and a couple of wool motos (including the teal Rebecca Minkoff).

I admit, i am far from a wardrobe minimalist, but I do want to keep my closet under control. I can only wear jackets regularly for about eight months out of the year, so i don't want a ridiculous number. I also want quality pieces with longevity. I've sold or given away at least twelve older jackets in the last three months, but I want to be thoughtful about what comes in.

I know these pics aren't the greatest, just getting a quick inventory. Any thoughts and reactions are welcome.
