Thank you Angie, it was the length of the larger jacket that me decide that made me decide to pick it.

Suz, I love thrifting. You never know what gems you'll find. Some of the the tops aren't quite as long as I'd like though.

You know, I had to start a wardrobe from the ground up when my body shape and size changed significantly. Here is what I did, because I did NOT have unlimited funds. To say the least!! I was a barely employed writer at the time.

1. I bought a bunch of stuff at thrift and consignment.

2. I joined YLF and read the blog posts (archived ones, too) assiduously!!

3. I joined the forum and started slowly reading and posting.

4. I bought some more stuff at thrift and consignment, and quite a lot of stuff on sale. I tried a bunch of different styles - some things worked and some didn't. I chalked mistakes up to experience and tried to let it go.

5. I got a better paying job, at which point I also started buying a few higher quality items.

6. I paid attention to what i really wore and tried to put more money there. E.g. I bought pricier winter coats because winter is my dominant season and I am outdoors a lot in winter.

7. I started culling regularly as I realized things did not work.

Now I am not quite but almost on a one-in-one out policy. In other words, I have enough clothes to get by for most of my activities. I still have a couple of wardrobe holes, but not too many (at least for fall/winter). So now I am replacing less-than-perfect items with higher quality, more current versions.

Thanks for following through, Shedev! And so fast too :)

The larger jacket looks wonderful, both in width and length. Well done!

To answer your question, it really depends on the extent of the change and your budget.

Suz- I would have to shorten the sleeves but there are no zippers so it wouldn't be a problem. It's more of an update/ overhaul than a shift. Even if I had unlimited funds I have a lot of trouble finding things that I like that fit both my body, life, and persona.

qfbrenda- I dont have a technical budget but I have upper limits that items are worth to me.

The purge wouldn't be everything but about 75%

The only reason a total purge works on WNTW is the $5000 budget they give you at the same time. I'm all for the concept and then reality hits. I had to make a monthly budget and work on replacing things slowly.

I like 3/4.

I definitely prefer the larger size, Shedev! You can get the sleeves shortened if needed.

Are you having a major style shift?

I don't know if I can qualify as someone who had a major style shift but I certainly feel my style has changed or at least focused a whole lot since I joined YLF. I would think the way a person would approach that would depend on her budget, her needs, and her lifestyle. If you could afford a total overhaul all at once, maybe that's what you'd do, but most people probably can't!

Not Angie but it does look better when it's not so tight.

For myself as I'm doing closet purging I'm doing more 1 in and 2 out. Although I'm not having a drastic style shift, just a more mature one, aka aging up.

I got the same jacket 2 sizes up. 1/2 is the original jacket and 3/4 is the sized up.

My question is, if you had a client who was having a large shift in style, would you recommend tossing it all like in WNTW, keeping some place holders but purging most of it, or something closer to the 1 in 1 out.? Any one else who has had the shift, how have you approached closet editing?
