LBD, wow! that vibram tread is intense. I think there is a shoe out there for me without needing to alter one. There are a lot of stores around here too. Its just hard for me to get out to them, so I'm trying to figure out what I want online.

Firecracker, its hot in June where I am. My feet will definitely want to be covered if its chilly

Aha! Good to know! (I went back and read Angie's response on that thread.) In that case, I'd take booties for sure, to be prepared. Sounds kind of like Seattle (where I am), in fact.

If there is a shoe you love - for example, the Petty bootie - why not take them to a cobbler and have vibram soles added? They will extend the life of the shoes, and they are non-slip.

Firecracker, I like both styles of Born flats, especially the Crown. The Munroe bootie looks nice too. Thanks for the recommendations!

I've read Paris can be cold and rainy still in June. I found a recommendation from Angie here for a bootie or a loafer: http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....king-shoes

I haven't really worn loafers, but maybe I can try them out.

Sadie, thanks for sharing your experience. This is why I'm trying to figure out shoes now so I can start walking in them!

Go for comfort and make sure you have really worn the shoes before you go. We were in Paris last September and walked our feet off (I wore my FitBit and logged 2 days over 30,000 steps!) The streets were full of people in sneakers, ballet flats, and sandals. I wore black sneakers while out during the day and black suede heels at night.

I've had good luck with Born shoes for comfort, and they're reasonably priced; here are some Born ballet styles:
http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/cr.....rsonalized

http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/bo.....-PP_4-Rich

The Arche shoes you show are nice, and they remind me of French Sole:
http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/fr.....rt&co

Do you really want a bootie in June? You could get by with a loafer or oxford, as the weather should be pretty mild. Or a cutout bootie, maybe? I do love my Munro Lexie booties--very comfy, great for walking.

You definitely need something with cushioning and that won't slip since you will be walking over uneven surfaces. The Vans are cute and should work. Have you looked at Camper's ballet flats? Or Ahnu? I've traveled wearing both brands

I'm going to Paris for the 1st 2 weeks of June. I'll be babywearing and walking around with my young school age kids. I'm looking for stable, comfortable footwear that looks nice.
This page is kind of what I'm aiming at for clothes: http://homechicraleigh.blogspo.....-tips.html

I'm thinking I'd like a sneaker, a ballet flat and a bootie. This is what has caught my eye so far:
http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/va.....eywordsear
http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/ar.....;contextua
(any ideas for a less expensive, yet still comfortable version of these ballet flats?)

Also any ideas for a bootie? I tried on Sam Edelman's petty bootie and loved the look of it, but the bottom is so slippery! And I'd like more cushion. I liked that it would look nice with a skirt.

My everyday shoes are Birkenstocks & Minnetonka mocs. I wear my Franco Sarto booties or Livie and Luca flats when I want to look more polished. I like Merrells for hiking. I've worn this brand for Europe travel before, but I am not thrilled with their current selection.

Thanks!
