Thank you everybody! I have been to NO numerous times before, but only once in February -- and that was 40+ years ago. I remember it being unexpectedly warm that time, and I was a bit embarrassed for myself wearing antiqued white booties. Of course, I was young then and overly self-conscious. And booties are more accepted in warmer weather now.
Janet -- definitely planning to spend time on Frenchman St.!

There's already plenty of good advice on here about uneven pavement. I just wanted to add that it rained the whole time I was there so make sure you check the weather. It was summer and I had packed sandals but really could have used boots that could get wet.

Agreed with all of the above. NO is a casual town. I'd go with shoes I can walk comfortably in for a long time, but I am a BIG walker when I travel. Plan for uneven, possibly dirty pavement. I am not sure if they've had a lot of rain lately, but it can be a little sloppy with puddles, etc. I usually stick with skinnies or simple black pants and vary the top half with fun tops depending on day or evening activities. And don't forget, NO is about food -- take some good "eating pants" that have a little stretch. Have fun! Spend some time on Frenchmen St for me! :-)

I lived in NO for a few years. Though I cannot serve as fashion- trend guide, I still think of it as a casual city, so no need to “ dress to impress”. Footwear can be comfortable- I’d wear closed toe- fun sneakers or Oxfords for day, if those are most comfy, or comfy bootie. You can let your tops or toppers and accessories provide a little dressiness at night, but I would expect you’ll see plenty of jeans and T shirts.

hmmm...IMO it depends on how much time you are planing to spend in the french quarter, and how close to the action you are staying. From what i saw the inner part of the quarter is one big one bar (both inside and out) and so i would be sure to pack shoes that are ok for walking thru crowds and beer (and who knows what else)....for the rest of the city...i'd wear shoes that are comfortable for walking...the city isn't very big, so i'd assume that you would/could return to your hotel to change for dinner if you wished to dress up...

You have a lot of nice choices. I suggest 2 pairs of you most comfortable shoes with closed toes for lots of walking. You may be in a lot of crowded areas and will want to protect your feet from injury or dirt. I also think taking a comfortable pair that is a bit dressier (if you have room) in case you want to change up your look, or find you don’t need to walk far. I hope you have a great time!

Nothing not broken in and something very comfortable is my first thought - you will be doing a lot of walking on uneven pavement probably. I don't wear open shoes in that temperature (our winter), but I run cold.

Staying in the French Quarter next week Planning on strolling, dining, music clubbing. Temperatures predicted 55-75 degrees Fahrenheit. Bringing black jeans and leggings, with some slightly over-the-top toppers/tunics. What should I bring for my feet?
I was thinking the Zara booties and maybe the oxfords, #1 and #2 in Finds. I also have some fairly comfy classic Delman black quilted/black patent tipped ballet flats and black patent toed and block heeled over-the-knee leather boots. Or any of the others shown in my finds, below. What say you? I am a Northerner and don't know what to do about warm weather in mid-winter. Don't want to look silly.
