So it seems to be a very personal choice and every boot/shoe is right or wrong. :) I am with Shannon in feeling that the shoes are lengthening and perhaps it is the less narrow pants that give that perception.

Diana, thanks for adding the picture. It really helps to show what you mean. I don't think I have any mid-height boots so perhaps I need to look around.

Hmm, with booties and slim pants I tend to have issues with the pants wanting to be half in and half out of the booties, which drives me nuts. Even my Gap Ultra Skinnies (which are pretty darn tapered at the bottom) do it. Maybe it's because of my very small ankles, but I'm not really sure. Cuffing the jeans above the booties solves the problem, but then of course you have the cold ankles problem. So for me taller boots are much more practical. My favorite is actually a mid-calf boot like I wore today (see the attached photo). The pants in the photo are actually a slim straight.

I don't care for not so skinny jeans pr pants with tall boots - I much prefer then with booties. That's why I bought NYDJ skinny ponte pants this summer - to wear with tall boots!

What Shannon said. With skinnies that are not "calf-sucking" (i.e. slouchy skinnies or just slim skinnies with some looseness/ give in the calf) I prefer booties (weather permitting.) For the reason she said -- it is leg lengthening for me. The only jeans I like to tuck into tall boots right now are legging-type skinnies -- the calf and ankle sucking skinny. I don't really wear those except with tall boots.

I wear both, including slouchier skinnies with tall (usually slouchy) boots but I'm into that look. Also wear a lot of pumps with mine, as well as the occasional ballet flat or loafer. Nothing chunky for me. The footwear changes the vibe of an outfit immediately, so it makes sense that we all gravitate towards different things

I'm into booties or shoes with slim skinnies. True skinny skinnies and ponte knit skinnies are the only bottoms I'm wanting to tuck into knee high boots these days. For one thing, it keeps my leg line longer with booties.

I tried my skinnies with booties once and it didn't feel right. I wonder if the length of the pants have to be just right for booties while tall boots are more forgiving.

I bought a pair of Pettys that I thought would get lots of wear but honestly, I find boots are easier to make work with skinnies and not so skinnies. For me, I can never decide if I have too much or too little scrunch with booties so I just end up putting on boots so I don't have to deal with the issue. I think skinnies look better with tall boots and not so skinny skinnies with midcalf. YMMV.

I commented on Shannon's original burgundy not so skinny skinnies thread that I preferred the looks with shoes instead of tall boots and realized that I have been wearing my similar pants with shoes more often than boots even though I bought a ridiculously comfy pair of tall black boots.

Both Shannon and Joy posted their slims with booties today and it got me thinking. Is it that the pants are slim but not skinny or is my eye seeing things differently? I used to prefer looks with tall boots in the colder seasons but am gravitating to the booties or Fly London shoes this season.

So what shoes are you liking with the slim/skinny?
