Lisa, our summers are hot, too, but for any amount of walking I’ll have to wear sneakers or hiking shoes. Our trip this winter to Japan showed me I can still go on long walks and hikes. I was very diligent about wearing the metatarsal pads. This recent slip up was due to my thinking Tevas were good sandals. They are, but not with this foot problem.

Sal, I have been very lucky that these sandals haven’t been terribly expensive. The seasonal ones from CVS, a pharmacy chain, were only $10! The only bad thing is they aren’t available year round. The funky looking Crocs must have been discontinued because while they were on sale, and the availability of sizes and colors was spotty.

Sharan, it was very surprising that the Tevas hurt my feet. They feel soft, but I guess they aren’t soft enough.

Brooklyn, I had plantar fasciitis in the late 90s. It felt like my feet were broken! A podiatrist prescribed inserts, which I still have. I’m glad you were able to conquer it and frankly, that’s a lot of walking! My doctor would love you - she prefers walking to swimming because it’s better for bone health.

JAileen, I am so glad you are having some success. Your persistence is paying off. The worst thing about this type of pain is that it can render you inactive, at a time when activity is more important than ever.

I had plantar fasciitis for about 2 years but I finally got on top of it with a combination of exercises and footwear choices. I still do the exercises every single day. I’m back to walking 10-12 km a day, which I’m thrilled about.

It's such a bummer not to be able to wear your old favorites, especially since they are, ironically, made for comfort! I'm glad you've found some workable summer footwear, and I hope you find more. Thanks for these suggestions.

Very hard to have sore feet indeed! Pleased you have some solutions. My Mum had extreme rheumatoid arthritis and lots of foot issues so I am very aware of how sore and challenging things can be.

I think the experimentation is so hard and expensive - and solutions are so variable. And a try on only gets you so far - until you wear something on the go you just don’t know if it will work or not.

There's few things worse than foot pain. I can sympathize. I'm glad you found some summery options that work for you. Summer is my longest season in my area, but also my hardest for footwear. Sneakers are hot to wear in the summer paired with a sock, but they are always the most comfortable option for my feet, especially if I will be walking all day. Sandals are really tough to find a comfortable pair for hot months and are usually limited to only wearing when errand running for me.

Roberta, I’m so sorry. My pain is on the ball of my foot. Apparently this fat pad atrophy can affect the heel, too. I hope your problem gets resolved right away. Honestly, the shoe you’ve shown looks pretty nice.

KKards, I know nothing about pilates. If it can help with foot pain, though, it sounds pretty good!

So glad that you were able to find some relief! Yay for fabbers helping and offering solutions

I was having foot pains and for me, a year and a half of consistent Pilates and the amount of emphasis it puts on footwear has helped me mostly eliminate it.

Alright, I feel your pain, literally. We clearly were not meant to walk upright. My heels are painful suddenly, and the only sandals that are truly comfortable are my drab brown Skechers. It is too hot in Chicago summers to wear sneakers!

Has anyone tried Kuru? They look good but are a bit pricey, so I would love a review from anyone who has tried them.

Kelly, that must have been so hard for your mother. When I visited the podiatrist I bought my Danskos to show him, thinking they were good shoes. They are good as long as you don’t have this issue.

Dee, oh no! You were one who mentioned the Cushionaires. I hope the podiatrist can help you. My whole style has shifted with these big funky sandals. They look like something Marge Simpson might wear. :)

Angie, thank you. The new sandals are a different look, for sure. The Crocs are especially weird looking.

Oh, JAilleen, I empathize because I also have foot challenges. I get the discomfort, and the ongoing search for comfy shoes because I walk a lot too. (((HUGS))). URGH! :(

Fantastic that you found summery shoes that go the distance, though! It's such a relief! Slides and platform slides look cute in sporty outfits, so I bet your "everyday and everywhere shoes" look great with your daily looks :)

Yes, aging feet and their issues, not fun and it's expensive trying to figure out what's going to work or not. Glad you've sorted out some solutions for the hot weather.

It's sad when trusty useful sandals can no longer be counted on. My big toe is giving me problems now, so most of my summer footwear is a no-go at the moment. Even my Cushionaires can't provide relief. I only have one pair of sandals that seem suitable for this right now. I'm going to see a podiatrist next week.

I'm so glad that you are able to get some relief with the metatarsal pads. My mom was a nurse (on her feet all the time) and developed this later in her career but it was mostly on her heels. It got to the point that she couldn't wear Danskos anymore. I hope you can find a comfy warm weather walking sandal like the Tevas because hot feet just isn't fun!

I had severe pain in my left foot this past winter. I posted about it here:
https://youlookfab.com/welookf.....hat-a-pain

The podiatrist said I’d lost the fat on the bottom of my foot. Apparently it is called Fat Pad Atrophy. YLF members made very helpful suggestions, which I appreciated so much. I started wearing metatarsal pads and my foot stopped hurting. I could wear clogs again, but also my hiking shoes and sneakers. I did have to get larger sizes in some cases, because the metatarsal pads are bulky. And that was fine, but now it’s summer, and socks and the metatarsal pads are too warm. I wore my Tevas to walk Bob, and I hurt my foot all over again. Anything that doesn’t feel like a marshmallow is too hard for my foot.

Sandals that don’t hurt: seasonal slides from CVS, Crocs Recovery Slides, and Cushionaire slides. The slides from CVS (Sun and Sky) have become my inside shoes. The Cushionaires are my swim shoes, and the Crocs have become my everyday and everywhere sandals. My “bad” sandals, and I have a lot, have been relegated to nonwalking events.

1 - metatarsal pads
2 - Dansko clogs
3 - Salomon hiking shoes
4 - Adidas sneakers
5 - Teva sandals
6 - CVS Sun and Sky seasonal sandals
7 - Crocs Recovery Slides
8 - Cushionaire Feather Slides
