I have a Cuisinart food processor, and love it for what it's great at: chopping and slicing.

I use my trusty Kitchenaid stand mixer (commercial 5-qt. with bowl lift feature) for making bread, pizza dough, and batters for baking. I just bought a new one and gave my old one (several decades old; still going strong) to my DD.

My Waring Xtreme blender is fantastic for smoothies and also for general blending, though I also have a Braun immersion blender that comes in handy for soups.

Before you think I'm gadget happy, I don't own a coffee maker. I brew coffee the old fashion "drip" way, one cup at a time, with a cone and unbleached paper filter.

KitchenAid makes glass bowls you can buy separately for the stand mixer. Worth checking for the food processor too. Though stainless steel might also be a good bet. Doesn't anyone make metal?

I have a Kitchen Aid that is 19 years old. I love it. I just had to buy the first replacement piece for it: a bowl because the handle broke and I didn't like to look at it (even though it still worked fine). I use it all the time.

@elpgal, I've never seen a glass bowl, but you can buy replacement bowls on Amazon. If you did, you could have a clean one and a stained one. Having a second work bowl can actually be quite nice on heavy use days (like holiday dinner days).

@MaryK, twins again! What awesomeness!

Cuisinart. The Mini-prep (in orange!) and the 7 cup size (white) are super useful, but the 7 cup is a bit heavy. I mix dough in the Kitchen Aid.

Hi, Glory;

Your Cuisinart's model number should be on a sticker on the underside of the motor. I think I googled it and found a company or possibly two. They added safety features since mine was made, so I had to buy a three piece assembly instead of the single piece I needed. $$$! And even now, a piece broke after a couple of months, so I have to physically hold the thing down; no walking away while it runs. I suppose certain pieces can be purchased off eBay and the like, but it was good to be able to study the diagrams. I bought needed parts from a company in South San Francisco that seems to specialize in obscure and ancient Cuisinart parts.

I only use the Cuisinart for chopping. I use a Kitchen Aid "artisan" mixer for kneaded doughs...

On a tangent, I got the mixer in a burnt orange sort of colour, because someone got me a Creuset in burnt orange, then I added another Creuset thing to match, then the mixer... I regret the orange just a wee bit because now I'm living open-plan and it all clashes with the living room furniture...

I have a Cuisinart that's practically an antique, but it's still going strong, and it's great for grating or slicing things.

For heavy-duty blending I LOVE my VItamix. I drink spinach smoothies made in it almost every day.

My Cuisinart is at least fifteen-twenty years old and I love it (but I can't vouch for the new ones). The plastic bowl is cracked, so I only use it for really thick things like making tahini and hummus. Getting replacement parts for yours sounds like a good idea, and I might look into that too!

My Cuisinart is over 30 years old, and a plastic part got brittle and broke off. After doing research, I decided to buy replacement parts and spend almost as much as it would cost to buy a new one -- cuz today they just aren't made like the old ones. I don't use mine to knead bread dough which appears to be the one tough thing that wears out motors.

Just so you know what not to buy...I have a professional grade Wofgang Puck stainless processor. It's gorgeous. It has a huge capacity bowl and every blade imagineable. However, it is so friggin' heavy that I hate to pull it out unless I'm chopping a TON of veggies for canning or making a double batch of pizza dough. I cook a lot, so the side benefit to having this machine is that my knife skills are now pretty darned good;-)
