Oooh, Carla, your pie and banana bread look divine!
Angie - your presentation is as lovely as your dishes!

Honey Crisp and pink lady are my favorite apples!! Unfortunately, the local U-pick orchard had a wet/fungus-y season and they are not open for picking this year. I had a great basil season with two HUGE plants in my containers last year but this year, nothing. Even the grocery store has sad-looking basil.

Thanks, sweet Carla. I'm ready to have tea with your cake and pie any time - and have real food afterwards! #11 is a Dutch oven dish of chicken and a variety of wild mushrooms. It was yummy with sweet potato mash and veg in #12.

Helena, we eat carbs, and thoroughly enjoy them.

Carla all looks and sounds delish! We had friends round to get one last BBQ in, and I made a peach blueberry crumble with a baskets of local peaches; twas lovely if I do say so myself. As for apples, my favourite are honey crisp, they are addictive! We've never done apple picking before and may try to squeeze it in this fall.
Hooray for enjoying food, moderation, being plant forward, making the most of leftovers to reduce waste, and my favourite of all (Angie!): CARBS!!

Oh! How beautiful, Angie. What is that dish with the mushrooms in #11? I totally agree with you about eating REAL food. One of the joys in life!

I remember your April Fools prank in 2013, and would never put it past you to convert YLF to a food blog!

I cook all the time, but I forget to photograph! It's a hobby and I find it very relaxing and satisfying. I spend hours in the kitchen, and very happily.

Everything fresh and from scratch. Sometimes I cook very elaborately and sometimes very simply. No mammals, no allergies, no paleo, no keto, real food, plenty of carbs, and mostly plants. Here are recent dishes:

It's harvest season here, I'm heading out to tend my garden.

I am running out of ideas for zucchinis. I have spiralized zoodles for the freezer, I've made zucchini bread, and done Persian stuffed zucchini with meat, rice and spices. I am open to suggestions.

I have a tomatillo plant this year (the patient who used to save me some has retired from the farmers market). Once every fall I make a chili verde with pork or chicken. I think I will sneak some zucchini in this time...

I grew cauliflower successfully! Made a curry with it last week, because it got tough by the time I picked it.

On the agenda for today: shakshuka with the tomatoes, and basil pesto since the basil is the first to shrivel when the nights get nippy.

You are making me look forward to cooler weather and baking. I am still not very confident of baking at high altitudes but need to practice. Or constantly make dense desserts like flourless cakes or cheese cake.

It all sounds so yummy, Carla. I want to try the pizza Lisa made. Sounds so delicious.
Fall apples are my favourite food. Nothing tastes better to me. I like them all. I do prefer tart and hard apples. Mr SF does not like apples to be as hard as I do. He says he might break his teeth on them.
We have been enjoying the Ontario lettuce and making lots of salads. I will miss that when it is over. I have also roasted peppers, mushrooms and zucchini for sandwiches with tempeh. Extremely good but not picture pretty.

Mmm, crisp fall apples! I don’t know what kind they are, but I’ve been eating them. There is an apple tree right next to the Spree that hangs over restaurant tables and sidewalk that tourists frequent. Every once in a while I go over there and shake branches until a few apples fall off. I wash them well (should probably peel them, but I don’t) and bake them. Sometimes I mix warm spices and/or oatmeal in with the slices, sometimes I put a crust under them, but often I do neither. They bake up nicely and are delicious with French vanilla ice cream.
We also drink apple juice made from “Streuäpfel”—apples in public or untended property that have fallen on the ground. When we lived in East Germany ten years ago, we spent a weekend with someone who harvested them and made juice to sell. I often wonder if some of the juice we’re buying is his.

Thanks for posting about your herbs. I’ve been meaning to do something for mine, some of which are doing poorly. I need to trim the mint, pull out the parsley, and plant spinach and basil seeds.

I’ve been learning to make saag paneer. My son loves it from restaurants, but so far I haven’t hit on quite the right combo. Next batch I’ll try leaving out, or at least cutting way back on, the garam marsala. He likes the smell of cumin and onions, so I’ll keep them. Eventually I want to be able to do the whole thing with veggies from our kitchen (or balcony, which is basically a green house) and make my own paneer from milk. I’m not there yet, but when I fail, we fill in with the same dish from the Indian restaurant on a boat docked a couple hundred yards from our door.

I can never get my apple varieties straight and never remember which ones I like . You'd think after 57 years it would sink in, but apparently not. I too have been baking and cooking - did a FANTASTIC vegetable "pizza" from Jamie Oliver's new book VEG. Roasted veggies, topped with a puff pastry shell, then flipped over and served pizza style. Quite possibly the best thing I've ever eaten

Mmmmm! Love pesto Got a nice vegan kale one from Trader Joes last week. No pics but tossed it into a tofu stir fry with olives, goat cheese, banana peppers, and sundried tomatos. We get all our seasonal produce at farmer's market, the farm around the corner from us, and other people's excess from their personal gardens

It's been a long time! Hot summer meant salads and BBQ, but today the weather turned cold, and instead of turning on the heat, I've fired up the oven. Fridays and Saturdays I like to get creative and process all the left-over bits and bobs into baked goods and casseroles. This morning the old bananas went into banana bread, and the apples became a French apple pie (crumble topping instead of crust). Tonight we will have a curry to use up a bit of pork roast and the last of the veg.

The farmer's market is full of splendid looking local produce - corn on the cob, field tomatoes, cantaloupe, squash, green beans, grapes, peaches. Pears are expected any day, and the early apples (Lobo, Paula Red, MacIntosh, Honey Crisp) are coming in. The market expects to feature 17 different apples from their own orchards. Every fall we try to work out way through the list. The menfolk fancy MacIntosh, but I'm a fan of Cortland apples, or a giant Northern Spy.

Do you have a favourite Apple? Are you eating from your garden or benefiting from a well stocked farmer's market? Anything interesting coming out of your garden? Are the restaurants using local produce? Post your food related pics!

#1 banana bread
#2 French apple pie
#3 peaches from Niagara
#4 parsley and thyme from my deck pots
#5 sad looking basil - I've had 3 big harvests and have made frozen pesto 'cubes' for use over winter
