Thanks ladies. It was so much fun putting the capsule together - I just started pulling things out of my wardrobe and throwing them on the bed.

@bj111: LOL, I'm not sure I'm looking forward to any more shopping. I feel almost shopped out.

@Suz: I'm really excited about the jacket. I waterproofed it yesterday and I'm going to wear it tomorrow!

@JulieJohn: It's so hard to find nice t-shirts. I'm down to two, one of which is a perfectly ordinary Ann Taylor t-shirt. It just happened to be from the one "perfect run" as the t-shirt has maintained its shape and color after being washed multiple times. If I was smart, I would have bought one of every color.

Sylvie, thanks for the follow-up. I have a similar wardrobe hole for what I call t-shirts with "that something special." It might be a print, an embellishment, or an unusual cut or fabric, but I'll know it when I see it!

Great thinking on all this, Sylvie. And the bonus is that you got your fab leather jacket!

great analysis of use.

on the plus side, you've identified a couple of possible holes to fill. mmm...shopping!

For the curious, here's how the capsule worked out:

It was really hot the whole time I was there so I didn't need my cardigans or a denim jacket. However, the flight on the way back was freezing! and I was so so glad I had a cardigan and scarf in my hand baggage. Also the trip consisted mostly of visiting family where I wouldn't end up wearing shoes inside the house or going on very long walks, so flat, practical footwear was required.

I wore:

Brown silk sleeveless tank (once and I had to force it)
Purple v-neck t-shirt (MVP)
Black v-neck t-shirt (MVP)
Blue halogen skirt (1x)
Skinny BF Jeans (MVP - so glad I had cropped instead of regular jeans)
3/4 Leggings for Plane (2x)
Blue/Teal Desigual dress and black belt that goes with it (1x)
Another teal/blue dress (1x and I threw it out after)
Black/white dress (3x)
Navy blue/white dress for plane (>2x - also thrown on top of nightgown in public spaces)
Black silk v-neck 3/4 sleeve cardigan (only worn on plane)
Grey Metallic flat shoes (everyday)
Animal print heeled "gold" shoes (1x because we only went out to dinner once)
Bright multicolor scarf (lifesaver on plane ride back)
Silver belt (MVP)
Red/orange striped top (2x)
Blue shoulder bag (MVP since it was my only purse)

I did NOT wear:

Mauve ruffled knit top (should have taken this out once I added the cropped jeans into the capsule)
Green cardigan (was too warm)
Old Navy Denim Jacket (was too warm)

I did so much lounging around various houses that a t-shirt + cropped jeans was really the most comfortable outfit to wear. If I had more casual knit tops, I would have removed my dressy ruffled top and silk tank. If I wanted to go lightweight, I could have removed the blue skirt and the teal/blue dress I ended up tossing. I don't regret bringing the extra cardigans and denim jacket because weather can be unpredictable.

I'm happy with how my trip capsule worked out. It showed me where I have one wardrobe hole. I have relegated most of my t-shirts to loungewear as they no longer make me feel fab. However, I could still use at least 2 more or knit tops made of t-shirt material with an interesting cut or design details.
