Thanks Sveta! I did swing by Gap yesterday. But I couldn't have a look since I was running late for DS1's school run. I definitely want to go over and check ... May be this weekend.

Neel, I got a perfectly boxy and fluid shirt at Gap sale rack yesterday - for all of $7 to boot! Gap does have a lot of boxy styles now, it may be worth a look.

Neel I think the shirt looks great on you, but I am not very knowledgeable about fit myself.

Also I buy men's shirts sometimes, because I like the colors, fabrics, and plain oxford styling, and I can't seem to find the same for women's shirts in my price range (actually I should look at woven's at thrift stores again, I haven't for a long time).

I've been keeping my eye out for one white button-up shirt, and I'm only seeing things in polyester flowyness, or with gold buttons (not for me), or with feminine styling and cut (not for me on this kind of shirt). Then again, maybe it's just not the kind of thing that ends up often on clearance racks

I think you look amazing. As unfrumped says, the white shirt with BF look is fab on you!

My first reaction was like Angie's -- absolutely fab! But then on reconsideration I thought it might be ideal to hunt down a shirt that doesn't have the princess seams. It could be useful to compare, though. The looseness of the shirt is certainly no problem, to my eye. But recall, I have a bit of a sugar eye for fluid!

If you could find a fabric that was a bit slouchier I think you would hit the sweet spot you are looking for. Sometimes shirt cottons are just really hard to work with.

Looks like the girls have already helped you out here! I think it looks a bit big in the shoulders too. It would be okay for layering but if it is uncomfortable it may not be the best shirt for you. Sorry it didn't work out like you wanted- will you keep looking or have one tailored?

I love the way you have put the outfit together, though!!! YOU make those jeans look amazing!!! And the rust coloured booties work beautifully with the neck piece without being matchy-matchy!

I think what I am seeing is that you look fantastic in the white shirt/ jeans combo.
In the past I would just see that and buy an item without checking all the boxes on fit. So if you have the patience to explore some other brands , a better- fitting structured, tailored shirt would look great on you, and you can probably also rock a BF shirt style.

Thank you girls!

Johanna and Karie - I think you might be right about the vertical seaming. It is supposed to be a tailored fit I guess.

Karie - Macy's and Old Navy are not in my neck of woods. But I could definitely try Gap. Would check it over the weekend. Thanks!

Deborah - you are being spookily telepathic .... Yep .... I am a bit annoyed with the collar shifting all the time. I have a strong feeling I won't reach for it often :(

April - thanks! You might be on the minority here :). But I am glad someone likes it

The vertical seams of this shirt, the ones that start at the shoulder, go through the bust, and end at the hem, suggest (to me, anyway) a shirt designed with a tailored fit in mind, not a BF fit. For shirts with seaming like this, I prefer the shoulder/arm seams to sit directly on my shoulder. Yours sit off the shoulder, so a size down would fit you better in that area. But I have the same problem - a size smaller is often just right in the shoulder/chest area, but too tight in the hips. Curses!

Did you try Macy's? Macy's had shirts with this same type of seaming and they fit my smaller-on-top-bigger-on-bottom frame nicely. If it's a BF fit you're after, Gap and Old Navy have some well-fitting ones.

I don't mind it untucked but the cut looks slim fit and I am not sure it's a perfect fit for you. It might be worth you keep looking. I get the impression that you may actually find the fit annoying and not comfortable, and won't wear it.

The jeans look great on you and combine good with a white shirt. This particular one looks like it's cut for a close fit. Just ook at the vertical seems. Honestly that makes it look a little off especially on the shoulders. These jeans need a boyfriend fit shirt.

Button downs are so so so hard for me to find! With my size 8 top and size 10 bottom, they are right there on top of my HEWI list! Well, I desperately wanted a white button down shirt! I found one in Newlook a few weeks back and I was pretty ok with the fit in the dressing room. I bought the size 10 to fit my hips. Looking in the mirror now, I wonder if it reads just too big? The shoulders are definitely a tad bigger than mine and the bust way too big.

I have styled the shirt on its own both tucked and untucked with boyfriends and boots. Do you think the shirt could pass off as fluid/oversized? Or is it just too big/unflattering and I should reserve it for layering purposes only? All your suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks!

ETA: Sorry I just noticed that this shirt needs a Cami. Yikes! Sorry for the eyesore!
