*WHEW* Okay, now that I'm an honest woman again, I can tell you what I learned by trying them on. They are an awesome silhouette for boots/dresses or boots/skirts. I think they'll also be great for really skinny skinnies that you can tuck in or leggings.

Fit wise, they were fine with my wide foot. Not fantastic, but workable. I tried them in my normal size (9) and they worked fine. A half size up would probably be better (but I'd have to pay shipping on it). Since they are suede, I'm betting that they'll loosen up a bit more and be totally comfortable even in the smaller (my normal) size. I'll probably have mine stretched in the store if they don't loosen up enough at home.

The suede is kind of a waxed suede. I bat for team polished, but they looked fine to me. A little rough, but comfortably just a little funky for this team polished girl. I didn't get to see the burgundy, but I bet it is lovely.

They are gorgeous, Susie!

I have the Bellevue Pearl Harts http://www.fluevog.com/code/?w.....ourID=3123

(in a different colour, from another year) and find it works well. My forefoot is a little bit wide but not a lot, my arches are high, and I have a narrow heel.

I don't wear these shoes nearly enough, not because they are uncomfortable (they are not) but because I stupidly bought a colour I like the look of, but that does not go well with anything in my wardrobe!

I just bought my first pair and am waiting to wear them when our weather cools down! I have another pair on my birthday wish list. I had never heard of them before reading Sheila's Ephemera blog. She's a big fan and I love their quirkiness. Then I found out there's a store right here on Portland!

I bought the Stop It Stad boot - saw it online and loved the look.
http://www.fluevog.com/code/?w.....iew=detail

I found it fit my widish foot well. (I'm pretty much wide in the ball of my foot and medium elsewhere.)

These are on my wish list: not my normal style but I love them and they would spice up my more tailored style, which can get staid if I'm not careful...

Haha Angie, I DID chime in -- right at the same time you did!

Susie, both those boots -- the Bellevue waxy suede-y ones (the material is aptly named "Mr. Velvet", apparently) and the steampunk Mini Babycakes -- are fabulous. I actually own the Babycakes, and through the winter months they get a LOT of wear. They go with a lot, make my legs look long, and are remarkably comfortable for all-day walking, considering they have a three-inch heel. I know I said none of the Minis fit me, but actually I can wear these boots because they are more stable than shoes, and you wear them with socks. I did put a little toe insert in though.

Ms.Katiekat is right, the Operettas are good too if you have a wide foot. My favourites are the short boots with buttons (Giulia). They are uber-comfy, with a wide toe box and rubber soles, and good for walking around in all day.

Bellevues fit slimmer, but not ridiculously so. I own a pair of Bellevue calf boots (Libby Smith) in a size 6 (not the ones you're looking at, but similar) and they're great, but my Bellevue maryjanes fit better in a size 5.5. I wouldn't size down if you have a wide foot, though.

The Minis have thick treads and are more stable for everyday walking. Both my Minis and my Bellevues are comfortable, but the Bellevues are daintier and don't get as much wear as the Minis in rainy Vancouver. I'd wear them a lot more if I worked in an office.

The Bellevue boots are great. Size up 1/2 size if you have a wide foot.

The Mini boots are even better than the Bellevues. I think with those particular boots you'd either be your normal size or half a size up, depending on whether you wanted to wear them with tights or thick socks. The Minis are inconsistent - I've sized down for sandals but stay true to size or go up for boots. The calf size on those boots is small - they can definitely be stretched up to a 14" calf easily. Past that, you'd need to check with the store.

Susie, I have the open back Bellevues Etta Place from the current run. I have wide feet and they work fine for me. I usually take a 9, but I took a 9 1/2 in the Etta Place. Boots may run narrower--you should call the nearest store and check. With that said, they really can do amazing things to stretch the leather on Fluevogs because it is great quality. The Bellevues you are looking at are suede, so they should stretch more easily. However, I'd definitely defer to the store!

You can see my Bellevues in the outfit that I wore them yesterday. WIW posted here:

Fluevogs are beyond awesomeness!

And to add to the wide width families, I find the Operattas to be wide-toe friendly. I have a narrow heel and wide toe (duckfeet - haha!) and I own one of the discontinued operattas. I also own one of the discontinued Miracles and they are best when you have a narrow forefoot.

Have fun discovering Fluevogs! I personally love them!

Hmm, Eperdu, I've found the opposite - Fluevogs tend to work for my wide feet because they have square-toed styles. It really depends on the line within the brand. I have a few pairs, though my style has changed and I don't wear them as much. They are extremely comfortable and other Voggers will notice them right away. The only issue is that the sizing is fairly random, and ordering online gets expensive with shipping and return charges. You can call and the salespeople will give you detailed info on how a shoe runs, etc. Or you can find a store that carries them if possible.

They are definitely timeless in the sense that they are unique and kind of retro even when current. Because of that, you're going to be making a statement when you wear them. I've gotten nothing but compliments when I wear mine.

I'm also new to the Fluevog phenomenon and just bought a pair of ankle boots (you can see my experimentation with them here). I tried on several pairs and did find the sizing all over the place. I walked out with a size 8, and I'm typically a size 6.5 or 7 and I've never worn an 8 in my life! I think they are the kind of shoe that until you know their sizing (as Elizabeth obviously does!) it might be tough to order online. I can't wait to wear mine! They've been sitting in my closet calling out to me, but the weather is just now cooperating!

Denise, Fluevog is *known* for its pointy-toe styles! The company was just gaining popularity here in Vancouver in the 1980s, when winkle-pickers were de rigeur. I remember back when I was a teenager, circa 1985, and the coolest girl in the school had a pair of pointy-toed Truth Pilgrims (same "shoe family" as those short boots you posted). We were all envious. :-)

Susie: I'll tell ya anything you want to know. I am a fan. For the record, I have medium width, small bony feet, and I have not found most styles to be particularly narrow. But there are exceptions. They group their shoes into "families", and some families run wide, some run long, some run narrow, etc. It is true that Fluevog sizing between families is inconsistent, but within each family, it is very consistent. For example the Mini family, with a short, stubby toe box, runs quite wide -- I can't fit most of those ones because even the smallest size, a 6, is too big. All the shoes in that family are like that.

The Truth family runs average, and the Miracle family fits very narrow. You get the idea. The salespeople will be able to answer any questions about the fit of each shoe, and keep in mind that they use good leather, so any tightness tends to work itself out quickly as the leather stretches to accommodate your feet. Also, many of the boots have a tight shaft. I have average-to-slender legs, and most of their boots fit my calf snugly. There are a few styles that have a lace-up shaft, though, which allows for any calf width -- you just adjust accordingly.

Hope that helps! Oh, also: I find their shoes look WAY better in person than on the website. You can't see how lovely the leather is by looking at a picture, and the bright colours look cartoony. In real life, the colours tend to be rich but subtle.

I had never heard of these before YLF. And never cared until this thread. You see, I thought all of them were retro shoes with boxy toes. Now I've discovered these:

http://www.fluevog.com/code/?w.....urID=3543#

http://www.fluevog.com/code/?w.....ourID=3166

I love pointy toe shoes! So wicked.

Happy to answer any Fluevog questions as well. I own... a bunch.

What I love about them is that even their heels are very walkable and stable (no teeter tottering) AND they are designed to be repairable, which lets them keep going and going and...

I discovered Fluevog when visiting San Francisco. I'd only packed sandals (silly me) and it got quite chilly so we ended up shopping for shoes in the Haight. Since then I've bought two more pairs, and yes, they do vary widely in size! Their customer service is outstanding.

I have narrow feet, and I actually had to have one pair of their shoes (dark red pumps) stretched a little. Happy to say, their shoes respond well to stretching.

Actually, all of the shoes I have from them are pretty tame and unembellished, which is interesting. Black booties, red pumps, and navy booties. I wear the booties a LOT. The pumps aren't getting much wear, but that seems to be true of all of my pumps. I need to stop buying them!

I love Fluevogs. I only own one pair (so far) but they are lovely. Very comfortable and well made, but as K Can says, the sizing is wildly inconsistent.

John Fluevog is a Vancouver shoe designer who has been designing shoes since the mid-seventies. His shoes were always worn by the coolest celebrities and hippest people. They are wild and funky but very well constructed. Everyone notices your feet when you wear your Fluevogs.

My first pair of Fluevog's were a pair of clogs that I wore to death with my bell bottom pants in the late seventies. I felt so cool whenever I wore them. I've had a love affair with his shoes for over forty years and still stop by his store whenever I'm in Vancouver. And, as a sixty-year-old, I find that I can still rock many of his styles-- they are truly ageless.

K .. thanks! My feet are truly medium, not really wide but I've got the dread cankles and big calves so short of stretching 6" I doubt I'll be able to get anything other than shoes ;)

I am planning to take a trip to Seattle in a week or so and hit up both Fluevog and Doc Marten as I need new every day shoes ... my Sanita Clogs aren't matching my style anymore (no matter how much I love them).

Eperdu, don't give up! I have wide feet (and big calves) and I have 5 pairs. I have had to have a few of them stretched, but there are some that work well for folks with wide feet. I'm sure others on the forum will weigh in because I know that "which Fluevogs work for wide feet" has been a topic of conversation before.

I know that the "mini" works for a lot of people with wide feet (I don't have any--it is too exaggerated a look for me) because they have a wide, rounded toe box. Mine that fit my wide feet are in the Wonder, Bellevues, Writes, Miracles and Second Miracles. They really can do amazing things with stretching in the stores.

ETA: OMG, Gaylene, I loved you before, but I love you even more now. 40 years of Fluevogs? You are amazing.

I bought my first pair a few weeks ago, (Blancs in black) and wore them for the first time last week. They are so comfortable! I'm going to try them out at an all-day trade show next weekend. They are a bit funkier than I normally wear to these types of events, but I hope that I can pull it off without being too self-conscious.

Fluvogs also tend to run very narrow. If you've got skinny little feet you'll love them.

That said, I have wanted Fluevog's since I first saw them in Sassy magazine when I was in high school. *swoon* We have a store here in Seattle and I go in frequently to visit but have never found a pair that really fits my feet. It's quite sad. Someday soon ...
