You are amazing Ana. Thank you for posting ALL those florals.

I think there is a time and a place for florals. I am with you Antje and Tanya. I personally prefer geometric prints but the right type of floral keeps you smiling – those poppies are a perfect example. It’s also HOW you wear the florals that makes a huge difference. Looking twee in florals is not so fab, but creating a contrast can be. A abstract floral skirt or dress with the right type of knee high biker boot is a yummy combination.

Thanks for the links, Ana. That tunic is cure, but I'm not sure about a square neck line. Harolds has some really neat things, I didn't know them before. Lots of pretty florals here! Too bad we can't link to items directly. I like the "Tulip dress", and "Emma's tulip crossover blouse" (both in "New arrivals for her"), too, very lovely. Out of my budget right now, though, sadly.

They have bigger versions Antje, but I didn't like the shape as much and I was looking for something more compact anyway. I think there's a tote version and maybe something else.

Antje, I love poppies too! Check out this stylized poppy sweater:

http://www.harolds.com/harolds.....038;Page=3

And this tunic:

http://www1.macys.com/catalog/.....=EverGreen

Here's a skirt in the same print as the sweater:

http://www.harolds.com/harolds.....038;Page=2

I have a super cute top by Lucky that is all embroidered with poppies and I love it, except that it totally makes me look pregnant! I'm keeping it though, for either when I am pregnant, or if I can figure out how to make something else out of it. :D

Edit: The harold's links don't work! It's http://www.harolds.com and then go to sweaters and it's the Madisons Blossoms sweater and skirt. Sorry!

Oy, Maya, thank you, this is exactly the kind of print I love! Just looking at these purses made me smile. The shape isn't quite right for me (too small) but the print is adorable.

I have this purse in an ink blue/lime green combo and I love it.

http://kiitosmarimekko.com/poppieshandbag.html

But femininity was certainly not on my mind when I got it. Anyway Antje's mention of poppies made me think of it

I'd like to stick up for florals. I'm often drawn to them - the modern, geometric, abstract, funky, bold, colorful kind. Dressing feminine is not my goal, so I haven't given that consideration any thought. Sweet Pea has some very fun modern florals (often almost too subdued for my taste). Hooray to florals - looking at them makes me smile. (My favorites in clothing are poppies; very hard to find, though!)

I like some flowers, my taste mostly matches what Angie described in her blog post today. That brown DVF dress was to die for! I have got a couple of floral items this season, including a wrap-dress with huge bold flowers that I'm yet to wear. I do agree tough that floral does not equal feminine. But (some) florals are fun!

Yes, that definitely helps Anna. Thank you! In light of that, I guess I have two new dresses and an slightly older skirt in abstract floral, a top in paisley floral, and a couple of skirts in medium floral that might be close to the whole "Little House on the Prairie" thing, but not as bad as a several I've gotten rid of. Calling them "Little House on the Prairie" patterns made me laugh, because we have a girl here at school who I always say dresses like she's from that time period. So in the future, I'll avoid buying anything she (or my mom for that matter) would wear in a floral print. Nicole and Maya, you guys are right, floral is not the most modern way to achieve a feminine look. I love lace and ruffles too; I just have to be careful with those because of my broad shoulders. Ha! I love the idea of picturing a floral pattern as a tablecloth. That's a great way to weed out the ones that look too country. Now I just need to convince my husband that those tiny floral patters he's always suggestion are frumpy and dated, not that he cares; he would probably like them anyway, but he won't be liking them on me anymore.

Good job Ana!

I have to say that I'm not a big fan of floral clothing. I don't mind the modern prints that Angie had in her post today--but I don't think too many women look good in even that style.

Anything too country looking--is especially not my cup of tea. I don't think of floral clothing as particularly feminine either. I thought Ana's new blouse she posted today is far more feminine than anything I've seen with flowers all over it.

I also think the size of the garment is affected by the print. An entire dress in flowers is just too much for my eye. A floral skirt or blouse worn with a solid top or bottom is a lot easier on the eye because the eye has something solid to rest on.

And lastly, I think pattern and randomness come into play. If the entire dress is scattered with flowers all over the place and there does not seem to be any pattern--that can be very little girlish. But if there is some pattern to the print then it's much easier to look at.

Try this, look at something floral, and then picture that fabric as a curtain, apron or tablecloth. Then decide if it's meant to be on an article of clothing.

So, I don't know if there are any pre-defined "categories" of florals, other than abstract, realistic, small-print, large-print.

Here are some example of abstract large print floral:

http://www1.macys.com/catalog/.....=EverGreen

http://www1.macys.com/catalog/.....=EverGreen

http://www.coldwatercreek.com/.....leid=46073

http://www.coldwatercreek.com/.....leid=45439

These are more like a paisley floral (very stylized):

http://www1.macys.com/catalog/.....ryID=26862

http://www1.macys.com/catalog/.....ryID=26862

http://www1.macys.com/catalog/.....ryID=26861

http://www.coldwatercreek.com/.....leid=45615

These would be more "realistic" large print florals:

http://www1.macys.com/catalog/.....=EverGreen

http://www1.macys.com/catalog/.....ryID=26862

http://www1.macys.com/catalog/.....ryID=26861

http://www1.macys.com/catalog/.....ryID=26861

http://www1.macys.com/catalog/.....ryID=26861

http://www1.macys.com/catalog/.....ryID=26861

These are like Little House on the Prairie florals (small/medium closely spaced realist looking florals) Personally, I don't know that this pattern is very flattering. It sort of "dates" you:

http://www.coldwatercreek.com/.....leid=46463

http://www.coldwatercreek.com/.....leid=46120

http://www.coldwatercreek.com/.....leid=45743

http://www.coldwatercreek.com/.....leid=45513

http://www.coldwatercreek.com/.....leid=46113

Here are some examples of Little House on the Prairie florals that I think *could* work with the right accessories/colors. You'd have to be careful though:

http://www.coldwatercreek.com/.....leid=46037

http://www.coldwatercreek.com/.....leid=45688

Personally, I don't really like prints, but the large scale abstract prints or floral prints in 2 colors appeal to me sometimes because they are very graphic, which I like, and they still look clean.

Does this help?

Angie's post today brought up a question for me. I love floral prints because I am drawn towards very feminine clothes. However, I'd never thought about there being different kinds of florals. Angie posted pictures of one type of floral today, but could anyone post pictures of other types of florals? I'm curious what category my florals fall into.
