What the what? You need to wear that floral tee all the time! And the dresses - I think they are very flattering, much more so than body con would be. Thanks for sharing!

Much inspiration for dressing well in the heat! In Beijing the summers are miserable. Heat + pollution + concrete city and like you, I only have AC units in my living room and bedroom. My formula for survival is also to wear skirts and dresses. I'm always amazed that people think that is too "dressy" for heat. I'm so much cooler in dresses or skirts! Love your cool, comfy AND stylish looks!

Thirkellgirl - thanks! I've not lost any weight....I've actually gained some I read in some random article once that sporting a shorter hairstyle makes you look visually taller (because your hair isn't weighing you down). I think it might be just that!

Thank you, Isabella. You're very kind I used to wear jewel tones - pinks & purples a lot a few years back. I wonder why I stopped! I do remember that when I was in college, purple was my favourite color. And I used to own a lot of clothes in jewel tones. I'm adding 'buy more purple' to my shopping list for next month!

Yay! Angie - thank you for the killer all around! I'm OVERJOYED! Now that you think I'm looking great this summer, I'm 100% confident because there is no bigger authority than you!

Diane - that compliment means SO MUCH coming from you! I'm feeling really good about my style this year and I think I've made some fantastic shopping choices too. You play a huge role.....because I do run most new-to-me silhouettes past you for advice and you've always steered me in the right direction. So THANK YOU.

Thanks CobaltBlue & AviaMariah....I'm glad you all agree the 'maternity' dress is actually pretty cute! I'll let my sister know she gave up on a gem ;D

Thanks Robin. The only thing I like to wear when it's hot & sweaty is thin knitted cotton jersey. Everything else only makes me feel flustered! That's why my summer wardrobe has tons of tshirts, knit skirts, knit dresses and even knit joggers (for the days when you have to cover your legs for modesty reasons but denim feels too hot).

Suz - you're right! The HAIR has made a huge difference. I'm even gonna say it's had a positive impact on my mood & personality (Coz who feels happy & confident on a bad hair day - eh?) I need no heat styling at all. I just shampoo, condition, rinse, apply a serum to still wet hair and scrunch for curls. That's it! I also feel like I can pull off much simpler outfits because my hair always looks good. Also it really stands out here ----- I personally know zero people in real life who wear their hair short....Indians are notoriously obsessed for their long long black tresses (I'm not kidding but I've seen girls shed REAL tears when they need to trim off an inch for regular upkeep). So in a way I don't need fancy clothes or accessories...my hair makes an 'impact' everywhere! I'm sure yours does too now!

High five!! I am so impressed with how pretty you look for the heat. You look great in every outfit. I love the dress in 7/8 on you in particular but all are excellent. The floral pattern in the top of the first outfit is also lovely on you and the colours are a bit cooling in themselves.

I have to say that my very favourite thing, though, is your hair. Going with the natural wave has been amazing for you. I imagine it is also much easier to do the upkeep in the heat. I know if I try to fight with my hair's texture in humidity, it is a losing battle. So much better to work with what you've got!!

Ledonna - I'm humbled you think I have great summer style. In fact, I was struggling to dress for my real lifestyle in casual but polished looks only last year!!! If you go back and see my first few initial outfits, you'll understand just what I mean. I had absolutely no idea how to look smart when wearing casuals (I used to resort to wearing fitted dresses everytime I wanted to look 'good')

I will admit though, I tried ALOT of clothes last year to understand what works for my body & lifestyle and what doesn't. I treat a *body style dressing guide* only as a 'starting point' because I no longer adhere to it 100% (I don't think busty women can't wear crew neck tops and must resign themselves to wearing only deep V necks, and I think curvy women can wear the oversized tee as long as rest of the outfit has just enough structure). I played around in my closet a lot....tried a lot of things together, and closely analysed what other women were wearing here on the forum and in real life. That last part was the best way to learn. I posted a lot of outfits and I asked a lot of questions and our lovely Fabbers indulged me by giving me their honest opinions about proportion/color/fit and more. That's how I learned....and I'm quite happy with my style now.

Thanks a lot, Jaime. I'm so pleased you think so!

I am a print lover too. I also live in a hot weather climate, and I think it's a way to add interest without layers. I'm too long through the torso for fit and flare dresses, but I do like the style on others. I've been searching for summer dresses that are printed and casual, but haven't had any luck yet this year. Outfit 1 is my favorite.

Looking alive in above 40 degree heat is an achievement - you have set a new high bar record. We also don't have central that extends to our bathrooms - which bothers me much more in the winter than the summer actually - but 47C? Yikes!

You are such an inspiration on how to cope with hot weather in style. Living in Australia, it gets hot, anything over 40 degrees is hard going, so I really appreciate this post. You look beautiful in each look, but I particularly love look #1 and how you have used accessories to great effect. My fall back look for summer is easy breezy summer dresses and sandals. I don't see any maternity looks here. I hope you enjoy your iced tea, it looks good.

Thanks a lot, Astrid. I'm very flattered! I know Europe is much much cooler and Europeans will find our kind of temps hard to imagine That's why I hope to someday move to Europe permanently so that me, my husband & dogs can ENJOY the outdoors as much as we like to!

Yay to your Happy Frock!!! And I'm glad you like mine Wearing it sure puts me in a good mood

I'm in awe of you looking so good in the heat. I wouldn't know how to cope, to me everything about 30°C is basically too much. My absolute favourite of the bunch is #7/8. That dress is so pretty! And you don't look pregnant at all. I have a floral vintage dress that is also cut like a maternity dress and I do have people checking my belly when I wear it, but I don't care. It's also my Happy Frock.

Hello to all you lovely ladies!

I mentioned on my post on 'buying basics' yesterday that I usually wear prints. My style is 'Comfortably Dressy' so I tend to wear comfortable knits a lot...and pretty prints keep them from looking overtly casual. So I thought I'll show you guys some of the things I've been wearing this summer.

This summer has been record-breaking hot as temperatures have gone up to 47 deg C (almost as hot as Dubai) yet homes in India do not have central air conditioning as of now. I suspect all new buildings will now have central cooling because honestly, a non-air conditioned bathroom & kitchen are hell! We have AC units all over the house but not in kitchen & loos. I turn on the one in whatever room me & the dogs are sitting in, and that's always at 23 deg C, but I do have to move around the house to get a glass of water, fix lunch, open the door, dump a load of laundry in the WM etc....so I primarily dress for comfort.

And while everyone around me is fussing and fuming about the heat ---- wearing real old sloppy clothes, I've decided to take a stand and brave it out in style. Why not?! I can't change the temps, but do I HAVE to look miserable too? I sure do not!

#1-4: One of the comfiest yet stylish silhouettes I wear very often. This is just a pretty tshirt (I love florals) worn with a knit jersey mini skirt. Almost feels like I'm wearing nothing....honestly. The wedges are super comfy. I love this shade of grey with pinks & purples. I wore this outfit for a casual dinner out with friends. Everyone wondered how I could look 'dressed up' in the heat....until I let them touch the fabric and see that all I'm basically wearing is a tee for my top & bottom both I'm adding additional photos to show you my bag & necklace.

#5-6: This is a tshirt dress cut in a fit & flare style. It's essentially like wearing a tee...and so breezy & comfy. Yet it looks quite cute. I have this style of dress from Dorothy Perkins in 5 designs and I wear them regularly for my everyday life.

#7-8: My sister bought this dress last year but never wore it. Said this is a dress only someone pregnant should wear! While I agree that the fitted bust and flowy flared skirt might read as 'maternity wear' for some, I do love the print. I took the dress from her & I call this my Happy Frock...and I do not care if ppl think I'm pregnant when I wear it. This is another simple dress that's easy to wear anytime, anywhere.

#9-10: This top has landed into my donation bag more times than I can remember. I know beige washes me out and is NOT a good color on me, yet I keep hanging onto this knit top Coz it works so well with simple skirts. I've paired it here with a basic, lightweight printed cotton skirt that's not lined, but also not see through. Very comfy. I'm wearing this today as I sit here sipping on my Iced Tea With Watermelon Chunks (pic #11).

Thanks for looking! I hope you're all staying cool, comfy yet stylish this summer too!
