I love thick wool tights from Marks and Spencers. There is a nice range of colours, they are warm and they stay up!

Depending on how far gone the old tights are and your skill levels, you could also chop the feet off and hem them. Whenever you decide to try the fleece tights, I bet you will be surprised at how much you like them.

Thanks for the recommendations, everyone!

It sounds like I won't have to worry about sweating in fleece tights, since none of you report having had to deal with that.

I hadn't thought about getting footless tights. My problem with wool tights is they always get holes in the toe, and footless tights would be a lot more indestructable from that perspective. I'll have to think about what footwear I'll be wearing with them. I could maybe darn my old Nordstrom tights to wear with more refined shoes and then buy a new pair of footless tights to wear with booties and the like.

Just coming back to say that I have another pair from the same boutique with the label (Mtl designer turned mass market manufacturer ) Catherine Malandrino . They are called thermal lined foot less tights and are available on Amazon too . The ones I mention having are all footless tights or leggings , not leotards , per se ( as Suz mentioned too ) .

I have two kinds. First, the kind used for exercise, but I'm thinking that's not what you mean.

Then, the other kind, for fashion. I have one pair Uniglo Heattech fleece tights -- and yes, they are polyester of some kind, but I don't seem to get too hot in them. They are cozy! Mine are footless (more like leggings) which I actually prefer, because then I can wear whatever weight of sock I want. Obviously, these are not for wearing with super refined footwear -- I wear with boots.

I also wear merino tights under other tights for exercise, but that's a different issue.

Intrigues by LisaP's recommendations!!

Fleece tights are awesome. I don’t like polyester, because it makes me sweat (even when I’m not warm. Go figure). Fleece tights don’t do that. I’ve worn out some no-name ones my sister gave me a few years ago. This year we are all in on Uniqlo heat tech. I have the sparkly blue tights. They are fun and they are warm. I sent some to my mom in Ohio and she loves them too. Lots of companies make fleece-lined tights. I like it that Uniqlo’s come in 3 levels of warmth. (But the sparkle is only available in “medium”).

I bought some from Wolford, when they had sales as they are quite pricey. Quality is super and they last for a very long time! I am like Rachylou, I am always cold so I haven't experienced any sweating.

My sister gifted me with fleece lined tights. I rarely sweat, but they are almost too warm indoors. I wash them by hand immediately after wearing them and hang to dry. They are very opaque and I like a more sheer look.

I wear, and love , fleece tights from C’est Moi . I don’t recall ever sweating or even feeling hot in them , but then again I only wear them in winter I wore them today layered under my outdoor tech pants for a walk , then out to the store and then around the house for the rest of the day ( I know , the horror) and was perfectly comfortable . They wash and wear beautifully and hold their colour so well . I buy a new pair every year just to have a fresh “ good” pair on hand .

I sometimes wear fleece tights under a dress or pants in winter, for the warmth. They’ve never caused me to sweat. Do you plan to wear them for exercising? I’ve not worn them for exercise; maybe someone who has can weigh in.

My trusty Halogen Sweater Tights were not offered from Nordstrom this year, so I am on the hunt for some warm tights. I have heard a lot of people on the forum talk about fleece tights, which I've never tried. Do they make you sweat? I thought fleece was made from polyester, and my experience with high polyester content in pants is that I sweat. What have your experiences been with fleece tights? If they make you sweat, have you found a brand of warm tights that you like?
